The issue is that we are looking at the shadows rather than the thing itself and the shadows can be rather one sided in terms of what the thing is. Plato goes into this a lot.
Think of it as a variation of the blind men and the elephant story.

Adding to that, not all perspectives are equal or even valid, and a different perspective can simply lead to an objectively wrong conclusion. So while images like that are often a useful thought experiment they are mostly just affirmation for people that think they are the only ones that really see the whole picture.
The only reality is what the customer base is willing to pay for.
