Not necessarily. It does matter. Falynos is right that WoW is cross server, but you’re still going to be put in a default server-shard group.
For instance, I’m on Bleeding Hollow. The game, for the most part, will try to keep me in the same phase or shard with other people of my server. This happens 70% of the time, and because of it, I often find that there’s no Alliance to kill because my server is Horde dominated. The other 30% though, it’ll put me in an Alliance dominated shard with Alliance from Sargeras and other populated Alliance servers.
What I find myself having to do often is being invited from someone on Sargeras server in order to find decent WPvP. This is because being invited from someone on Sargeras will phase me over into theirs.
If you’re looking for fights, I suggest Horde on one of the RP servers. Wyrmrest is pretty alive Horde-side, and you’re thrown in with the SWARM of Moon Guard Alliance in war mode.
Yeah, on an RP server you have to have an RP friendly name. For instance, your character can’t be named “Thewarriorzz” or something like that. If you don’t, you get flagged for a name change and you might get warned on it.
You’d need to come up with a reasonably sounding name, Zingy would work for you. Alphon would work for me.
Also, another rule would be not to interrupt others RP. You can get punished for that under harassment/griefing.
Personally, I would stay away from RP servers because you become trapped in them. It’ll only phase/shard you with other RP servers out in world, and won’t ever phase you with other servers outside of that unless you get invited into a group by someone not on an RP server.
Just to add to this too RP servers are for, well, for RPers. We’ve only been given so many servers - and even then we’ve mostly coalesced around 2, Wyrmrest Accord and Moonguard, use to be 3 with Emerald Dream as an RP-PvP server.
We want to be, and normally are, open and welcoming to a lot of folks who want to come over, but usually with the stipulation that you want to RP as well. The communities we foster are because we’re all role players to one degree or another. While MG Goldshire might get a bad rep, there are so many other people who RP and socialize outside of there and create so much more.
Emerald Dream, in part, died because exclusively WPvPers came to the server and slowly but surely disregarded our events, the RP community’s wishes, harassed our friends, and made it an unwelcoming environment for RPers who wanted that PvP ruleset as well. As as people transferred servers, left the game, or stopped RPing for various reasons, there was not an incoming population to retain a healthy community and poof. Warmade was the final nail in the coffin.
All that is to say we’d love to have you on WrA or MG, but we’d also love it if you’d come wanting to RP, or at least giving it a try.
