Is Ner'zhul actually dead?

In the novel Arthas: Rise of The Lich King, Arthas slays the spirit of Ner’zhul and becomes in full control of The Lich King.

Chronicles reveals Arthas plan was to unite the world in undeath. Its why he tested us, led us to his spire to become Death Knights, his great weapon against The Legion, Void and beyond.

But in Legion, Frost Death Knights reform Frostmourne into two blades, and go into the blade to kill the lingering spirits. Where you help a echo of Arthas defeat an echo of Ner’zhul.

Lets not forget Bolvar has been acting pretty shady lately.

Don’t think there’s hard information one way or the other

Ner’zhul seemed to either be absorbed into Arthas’ essence or just flat out still around

I want to say the Helm of Domination is the main house for Ner’zhul’s spirit, as it was crafted for that express purpose, but with the Frostmourne thing it’s really hard telling

I don’t claim to know anything about how this works in WoW lore, but “killing” a personality would mean that the Lich King would lose the Ner’zhul part and all that entails, leaving it as just death knight Arthas with the helm.

As we still fought and killed the “Lich King”, and he still seemed to refuse to identify as Arthas, it would seem the personality was only suppressed for as long as Arthas’ body and mind remained living. Otherwise, Bolvar would not have fused with anything.

Blizzard said in a QnA 2010 that he was done and dead. Evil side Arthas and Ner’zhul fought for dominance for who would be in control, Arthas evil side won and killed him. Ner’zhul echo and Arthas lived on in the sword if you ever do the frost DK artifact quest line.

Yes he is. In chronicles it was said he was completely destroyed

I’ll believe a character in Warcraft is dead when…

Honestly? I’ll never believe it. Christ Metzen and Christie Golden could both sign an affidavit swearing that the character will never appear again in any game or associated media and I’ll still be completely unsurprised when said character is giving me quests in the next expansion.

Nerzhul is dead until the writers want him back.

That’s how Warcraft has always worked.

What about AU Ner’zhul from Au Draenor?

Yeah! He’s dead, we killed him in the shadowmoon dungeon.

If I recall correctly Bolvar recently said that the Helm of Domination communicated with him in some manner, showed him things. I don’t know about you, but most enchanted objects I know of don’t “show” people things. Reminds me an awful lot of the Crown of Sorcery from Warhammer Fantasy if you ask me. Wouldn’t be surprised if Ner’zhul pulls a Nagash. After all, Sargeras locked him in that armor.

A fun fact about that dungeon, is the final boss room is in The Shadowlands, as the Shadow Lands spreads multiple realities.

We know this because in the DK Legion Quest, you claim the soul of Soulbinder Nyami from The Shadowlands, a Warlords character.

So if Shadowlands is real, then it’s likely we could see Ner’zhul again. Should also note Icecrown is Azeroths anchor to The Shadowlands.

Bolvar of course is going to act shady, you can’t stall corruption forever.

But in all honesty, I feel like he’s working with Sylvanas and the unnamed thus far Death character. Since everytime she’s mentioned it, its been capitalized.

Oh and Talia is now a character, why would they bring her back if Bolvar wasn’t integral to the story :o

If they bring Bolvar back into the story, and we get a Death themed expansion, Death Knights better get a spotlight. I’ll be legitimately angry if we don’t.

more so since the dk’s are pretty much pledged to the lich king again i want him giving me quests let the death lord ride freeeeeeee

True! Ner’zhul is damned just like arthas! So hopefully we’ll be seeing both:) although idk if AU Ner’zhul will be there since he’s from a alternate universe, unless it’s all connected.

Nerzhul’s body is dead.

technically what you cal Nerzhul is dead and gone. Only the corrupt shard that inhabits the Helm of Domination is all that is left.

I feel like he can though. He is the lich king but he is a also a smouldering conduit for the life aspect as well. Life and Death in the same body.

Everybody comes back except Uncle Ben.

You feel like he can stall corruption, is that what you mean? You are a death knight, did you not play through the entirety of your class order hall in Legion?

he was up to some pretty shady stuff. Even wanting to make a certain paladin into a DK.

Shady does not mean corrupt. Sometimes you have to do dirty work to save the world. And if it was not for that incident at the lights hope Chapel, Mograine would have not stepped up. Like it or not The DK’s were the Garbage trucks of Legion.
