Is my wifi connection good enough?

I’ve been on wired forever, but i can pay 100 less bucks for this new wireless internet i can try out for 14 days, and this is my connection info:

5G T-Mobile plan.

119 ms (home)
107 ms (world)
framerate 70-75 fps.

That is sitting in dorn around the pvp area. I havent run any content yet (normally i just pvp, rated pvp, etc.)

Is it lookin alright for the time being? or am I wishing for something that’s not gonna work? I know ethernet is more secure but man 100 bucks less a month would be nice.

ty for help im a nub to this stuff!

It may be on the laggy side.

I’d recommend like 20-40ms usually, for a more enjoyable experience.

Definitely lower ms if you’re going to PvP or do anything remotely competitive.

those numbers are fine for wifi, but you would get much lower latency if wired. doubtful you would notice it though. maybe at high pvp levels

Luckily I can test this out for 14 days before I make any decisions. Thanks for the help folks.

Yep, wired will always be better.

Games over Wi-Fi connections are a coin toss, it is fine until it isn’t. I am more confused by the logistics of having Wi-Fi for $100 a month cheaper but no access to the router to run an ethernet cable to when most internet plans are less than that.

maybe its a 5g plan. basically a glorified hotspot

If that were the case, I would probably say it’s not a good idea. Even with an unlimited data plan, running games over a hotspot is one way to quickly reach a point where they might start throttling your data and you may or may not even realize it until later in the month.

Yes 5g plan tmobile. I’m not on a hotspot I don’t think. Idk.

id look at the fine print when it comes to data caps. my work phone is t-mobile and when they throttle after the 60g cap, i cant even watch a video anymore.

I wouldnt play on wifi, cuz theres a delay, i got a wire and i get 20ms home and world

Eh this isn’t particularly fair with the major carriers providing 5G home internet. There are FAR better transmitters in the equipment customers get than when you get a hotspot. Now I’m not suggesting anyone ditch wired internet for 5G home internet if the main factor is connection stability, wired is still going to be more reliable. But there are some traditional cable companies that have been so terrible for me that I might legitimately consider going with a 5G home internet package instead if those were my only options; I would never even consider doing that with just a mobile hotspot from that same cellular carrier.

I’m sure you’re right, but im a bandwidth snob. i have 2gig fiber right now

I’m testing out some arena skirms and pvp like epic bgs and such. i notice a slight SLIGHT delay barely, but everything else feels smooth. hmm… idk.

I can always go back to ethernet but i have to keep testing this to see how it goes. so far thats about all i got.

Oh I’m with you, I have no interest in ditching my fiber.

I just don’t want to give someone considering a 5G home internet package to immediately dismiss it when it might be the best option for them based on availability or cost just because mobile hotspots are barely functional. Home internet gateways, at least from the 3 major carriers, are orders of magnitude more powerful than a mobile hotspot. It’s fully possible to game without significant issue in most cases.

I remember playing League of Legends on crap Wifi several years back.

It was so awful, lost so much ranking lol. (My own fault for thinking the connection was stable.)

Would be fine one minute, then a huge lag spike, dead when you reconnect.

It would randomly occur a few times an hour, sometimes nonstop based on how many others in the house were also gaming or watching streams.

We all shared the wifi.

And it was like that for as long as I was living there, made gaming an awful experience.

Legit started playing single-player games so I wouldn’t get frustrated.

Because of how wireless works, it is not favorable for gaming. If it’s all you have/can afford then so be it, but I’d never play a game like WoW using wireless.

So when i get into arenas, which is basically what i do, (SS, 3’s, arenas, and blitz) my fps goes up anywhere from 110-160 and my ms world / ms home drop below 100.

All I know is when my spectrum goes down I use my wifi hotspot on my phone to play and dont notice any difference.
I think the bandwidth required for just playing wow is pretty low.

If my trashy ATT cell phone hotspot can run the game just fine, any internet connection you have should be just as fine too. lol
