Is my math right? Is the S-Priest 2-piece set really giving <2% DPS gain?

Let me start this off by saying that this is not my foray, and that I understand there are deeper mechanics to this with the additional 1sec…though not by much from what I’ve played, but here’s my numbers:

So, baseline and without any buffs, procs, lets take a S-Priest at ilvl 600 and estimate it’s Devouring Plague damage is 160,000 instant and over-time effect is 170,000 for 6 seconds. 330,000 total. Again, rounding, but that is pretty close.

DoT figures to be 28,333 per second (170k/6). Let’s be judicious and round this up to 30,000 additional damage. Now, what is 30k additional damage to 330k? it’s 9%.

Now, DP is doing 20% of my damage (sims lower, but whole numbers are our friends). The 2-piece gives DP 9% additional damage (if we round up). This means, in best case scenario, and with all the number’s being rounded up, our 2-piece is giving us 1.8% damage improvement.

This puts it on par with trinkets that should be vendored and below certain embellishments.

Again, I understand that there are certain mechanics here, like the possibility of squeezing out another Void Blast, but this seems paltry and I’ve never had an issue with DP uptime in that VB window.

Is there something I’m missing here? Is my math wrong? I want to be wrong because this is discouraging.

Look on the bright side next tier you immediately break 2/4set for ilvl.

You’re ignoring DoT uptime for mastery as well as haste scaling, but even then the set bonus is in total about 5-5.5% it’s one of the lower end bonuses but most are in that 5-7% range, it’s not really an outlier.

S1 bonuses just tend to be weaker than later tiers.

Nah every resource and all simming puts our 4 piece at ~5.4% (at best in ST), and our 2 piece is at 2% (at its best) Syxk is spot on.

Its actually worse in M+ where its only 1.6-1.8 for the 2 piece and 4.8 highest for the 4 piece. And I do believe this makes it the worst set in the game this tier for damage.

I’m digging the 2 set already, all I have. It’s so much easier to keep the big devouring plague at the start of fights snapshotted with bonus haste.

I know sims prob saying 2%, but i would guess its more for all but a select few players that play perfect. It’s allowing for much longer uptime and roll over, which benefits multiple spells.

Tier set is the least of our issues
