My advice is to don’t do it.
My husband was a multiboxer and he uninstalled the software before it was banned and he never owned any hardware but after getting massed reported almost every day, they banned him anyways. Then it was reduced to a 6 month suspension.
I’ve read on the CS forum where this has happened to others. Some get theirs reversed, others don’t. I have no idea if they’re telling the truth but I know for a fact, for obvious reasons, my husband was.
So don’t do it.

I think if he sticks to a low pop server in Chromie Time it’ll be fine. Or if he’s RPing on MG.
Wouldn’t count on it. My husband was on MG with me.

My husband didn’t do either and was actioned anyways.
I think back then, people were on a witch hunt too. People have chilled out now. It probably isn’t as bad.
I know a couple of people on MG who run around the city and Elwynn RPing with two accounts now and either people don’t notice or they join in on the RP.
But also: that super sucks it happened to your husband.

You’ll most likely get reported by a lot of people who won’t care if you’re multiboxing the “right way”.

Okay, yeah, but these don’t do anything.
I want to point out that ANY “streamlining” options, even if they are just settings built into Windows, are a violation of the rules.
This includes the option that has windows auto activate when you mouse over them. That’s considered streamlining and thus against the rules. It doesn’t have to be third party software.
Exactly. My husband would even argue with the people calling him a bot and they didn’t care.
Because bots totally talk back to you.
Running a bot doesn’t mean one has to be afk.
I did it for quite a long time using a laptop on the side and just assisting the main or throwing heals. I was probably so inefficient at it that it didnt even look like Multiboxing. That might be why I never got reported. 
You seem to know more about it then we do so I’ll take your word for it.
Yeah, this is my theory too. People would have to recognize it first. And people alt tabbing between screens slowly and probably RPing both characters (OP did say he wants to do a storyline for Love is in the Air with them) shouldn’t really cause suspicion.
Just FYI nobody that boxes alt tabs because it’s more efficient to play in window mode.
They could be an inconvenience if a GM decides to be hasty or if you’re being reported multiple times a week.
It could definitely become an inconvenience
