Is Mage Tower (Xylem) tuned correctly?

I get it. Other people have done it so it’s doable. But hear me out.

Surviving isn’t even the hard part anymore. I have the mechanics down, but just can’t make the DPS check without having to spend thousands of gold on gear? Specifically talking about the arms warrior, surv hunter challenges (Xylem 2nd phase) where I consistently peak at 800-850 DPS single target, kiting slowly around the edges and the entire floor ends up purple while the boss is still 40% HP.

Was this tuned correctly? Or was it tuned for having 10+ gems on chromie gear with rune, flask, potions, lust, like wowhead recommends? I’ve done mage tower on multiple toons on legion and even though it was hard, it always definitely felt like a skill issue when I lost. Doesn’t feel like that anymore when I’m avoiding all mechanics flawlessly and die anyway because my damage isn’t enough.

HDH is quite rough as well, the nerfed Leech is really showing in the Xylem fight.

Yep the problem here when people reply ‘‘get good’’

Is that by ‘‘getting good’’ they actually mean spend thousands of gold and time farming specific gear and gems.

HOT TAKE: ‘‘getting good’’ like some say has nothing to do with skill, but gold.

Guess I’ll just wait for them to hotfix it then. Was gonna have fun and enjoy mage tower but refuse to spend hundreds of thousands of gold (yes thats what it costs on my server) for a full set of gear on multiple toons just to make the DPS check.

I really wish this challenge was based on skill alone, like it was in Legion. It’s funny because I remember meeting the DPS check even while undergeared on a couple toons back then because it was tuned with legendaries/artifact weapons in mind.

Yeah. It’s not really a challenge. It’s just I have to do everything perfect or I get oneshot. That’s not challenging/fun. I’ve done the challenges before. They were fun when you had a legendary/artifact to smooth out damage taken (so I at least don’t get one shot - I’m fine with dying if I make two mistakes in a row)/ give extra burn.

It’s just a gear check at this point. If I had slightly better gear I’d have it.

Which makes 0 sense given its intended to ‘‘scale’’ to level 45.

Yup. Surprised they didn’t disable sockets just to make sure we didn’t have anyway to improve our odds…

Demonology challenge was extremely easy in comparison to Xylem as surv and arms. Did blizz just completely forget tuning? Not talking mechanics, just raw damage and boss HP.

Xylem does 10% of my hp with each frostbolt so something there is off

That is a challenge though, no? Not every challenge is identical in nature. Some are pure dps checks, some are all about dodging, some are about using specific skills strategically.

I do agree though that Xylem feels overturned. I don’t recall the comet shower killing me in like 4 hits before I can break the ice. I’m 247 ilvl now, and obviously we get scaled down but still, yeesh. Out of 7.5kish hp, the comets hit for like 1500 each.

Apparently people are forced into using the Unbridled Fury potion otherwise there’s actually no way to clear the DPS check for Xylem. Seem intended? :man_shrugging:

Yes, literally the basis of DPs checks for all of wow is to min max damage, this is an MMO not cod

Its not tuned correctly, not for bears at least.
Its not normal to get 1 shot past 50DR cd at only 3 stacks @20% remaining.

After all the complaints, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Wasn’t easy, but fel bear in about 10 attempts.

I wasn’t able to meet the dps check either.
Had to swap fury, took me a few pulls to refresh my mind on the spec because i haven’t touched fury in a few years.

Min maxing damage with rotation and skill alone I’m perfectly fine with.

But being forced into spending my life savings on consumables for it to be doable? Not so much.

I’d like to see someone attempt Xylem without potions and kill. Then I’ll rest my case.

True there’s no such things are professions or gathering in an mmo

No it’s not. If I’m in the room with all the clones on my rogue it’s completely rng how close the real xylem is. This is seriously pissing me off. I’ve got to 30 percent only to not have that damn freaking xylem spawn on the other side and I have no cloak and shadow stepping doesn’t work cause the real one moves and the knock backs and dot are literally insane. I have never had a game play issue with wow and I love the game but I will unsubscribe if they don’t fix this broken mess.

MT was tuned for Legendaires, abilities, and Artifact weapons. All those are gone, and it wasn’t retuned.
Most of our abilites have also been changed, with affects and CDs changed since Legion.
