I go behind trees, boulders, hills, buildings, walls… mages still frostbolt spam through it. I can’t cleanse magic yet, so their 20% heath frostbolts are impossible to survive. LOS was my only hope, and it doesn’t seem to exist.
Is it a bug or…?

Trees, boulders, and hills don’t block line of sight.
Knowing what does – and does not – block line-of-sight is part of the Classic experience.
except its broken, a lot of things that SHOULD block LOS don’t. Like a lot of walls.
I say it varies, but naga, murlocs and ogres are notorious for casting through walls and buildings. Also, sometimes big rocks and columns do block line of sight. I don’t think the los is broken, rather the model of whatever obstruction your hiding behind is glitchy because I can walk up to some walls and go inside them.
Walls and buildings are basically the only thing that can hinder LOS. Rocks, trees, bushes etc spells go through them, not a bug in classic.
Probably level designers did things different from one another. Like others said, you got to learn what blocks and what doesn’t map to map.
As far as finding changes from Vanilla to Classic, good luck. There’s probably thousands of small changes. The terrain interacts differently with the players and npcs everywhere to some extent.
Trees and hills only block movement, not LoS.
There are things that block LOS, but ambient elements (trees, grass, etc) don’t. Walls, pillars, buildings, elevation etc will block.
The other argument is that you can use LOS to completely prevent a mage from casting…they can only use instant abilities or CC you in place to do anything. A mage wont fight you in a maze of walls because they know better…
This is vanilla.
I how I miss racking up honor and kills in AV shooting fireballs thru the ridgeline into the Alliance GY near their keep.
Which validates the OP’s contention LOS is broken in Classic.
No, it doesn’t. He would need to cite specific examples of LOS working (classic) when it didn’t (vanilla), or when LOS was working (vanillas) when it isn’t now (classic)
For example, it’s always been possible to shoot through the massive tree stump in the center of WSG. That’s a feature, not a bug.
There were several buildings in Moonbrook, just for the most obvious example in my head, where the Pillagers could shoot me with fireballs through the walls of the houses, while I could not shoot them back. Also seen them run through said walls. It is definitely not working quite right in a lot of places/under load.
Walls are your friend for LOS.
LOS is working exactly as it did in 2006. Use walls and not terrain to break line of sight. Works 99% of the time.
Well as a retail player, i got to say, you got the best end of the stick of LoS, shooting arrows and firebolts though everything.
Meanwhile i’m trying to shoot a fireball but apparently the target is not in my line of sight cause of a stupid twig on the ground, or that i’m on a ship… that isn’t moving, or the platform i’m standing on is 1cm lower or higher then the enemy is standing on.
I’m just gonna go out on the limb here and say “Blizz-esda”, and let everybody come to their own conclusion on how accurate that statement is.
It’s the same reasoning why hiding behind a skinny pole can protect you from a D.Va mech explosion and the reason a quilboar geomancer can melt you even though you’re behind a 10ft thick boulder…Blizzard be Blizzarding
