Is Korrak's Revenge (ie Classic Alterac Valley) really a disaster like it appears?

There’s an anniversary quest to earn 500 Honor in Classic AV. I still haven’t grinded this rep out. I’d done some on previous anniversary events but it’s super slow because most Classic AVs take forever.

I think this year’s might be even worse. Lots of people seem to leave the event once they get 500 Honor. It’s honestly a terrible way of farming Marks of Honor and an even worse way of getting rep. I think I was there for 40 minutes as Alliance and in that time Horde got from IBGY to FWGY. It may well still be going an hour or two later.

Like, what?

An early version of the Anniversary Event on PTR had PVP rep tokens on a TW vendor for AV, WG and AB. I was disappointed when they were removed. I’d rather just buy them than go through many, many hours of AV.

Well, I left the event because there was so much lag it wasn’t worth playing.

40 minutes?

Back in my day it took us 4 hours to get that far, then we’d lose it when we tried to kill Galv. We’d get slowly pushed back to SPGY, with a few stealth heroes spinning flags on IBT and SH. After another couple hours, half of us would log out for bed, work or other necessary activities in the real world. We’d do our things, and 8 to 12 hours later come back, log in and join the same battleground. There’d be that one guy who refused to quit and had about 1900 kills. As soon as you logged in, someone is spamming “DEFEND BAL” as snowfall spun again and the Ram Riders rolled out for the 14th time. We’d finally push to IBGY again, be at 2 mins on IBT and 15 people would run off to get Korrak, setting the whole cycle back to the beginning as we lost ground.

I wanna say and we liked it, but… I dunno. It’s kinda like bonding with your captor in a kidnapping situation, I think.

And yeah, 20 years later the lag in there is absurd.

It’s old-school AV, which could easily turn into a LOOOOOOOONG stalemate. Did it on my main today, made some progress (took out a bunker!), but didn’t stick around much longer after hitting 500 honor. Big ol’ Lok was summoned, but he didn’t last very long unfortunately.

Not ideal, but one of my favourite AV experiences was actually a two-hour push to the end several years back. It was actually quite fun, I couldn’t recall exactly when (probably either TBC or WotLK), but it was after the old strategy of ignoring the other faction and racing to the end became the norm… but before “reserves” or whatever they were called were implemented (you could only win by beating the general).

Days-long AV battles were supposedly around during Vanilla, but I’ve never seen those. But I do remember those old stalemates before it became a straight-up race. They were fun.

Be glad it isn’t like it was in the old days. You’d see games that ran for literal days. We actually set up shifts so we could keep the fight going without needing to stay awake for 48+ hours.

I mean, it was lagging so bad that I couldn’t even loot last time I went.

The problem with Korrak’s Revenge is most people don’t remember how old school AV works- you really need people running mines for ground assaults, collecting rams (or wolves) and getting saddles for them, and you really need to be turning in armor scraps and crystals. If you blindly slam your head against the other team’s zerg you’re gonna have a meat grinder.

The npcs are overtuned soing melee hits for 1.5M. Glad this npc responded so I ignores his trash commentary

Skill issue

My Lock is on an alliance heavy server. Got the 500 rep in about 15 mins, we won ez.

I just did 6 of them had no issues, but i also turned off Details

I bounced the moment I got the 500 honor. The servers were DYING the entire time it was awful.

Live the turtle.

Love the turtle. this was the way.

Lag sucks though, sorry to hear about that.

Regular AV is for farming. that has drek or kek.

can we get marks of honor for Korraks revenger? I forget.

Your forgot If your team’s rogues and druids are going into the zerg…yell at them lol.

they sneak behind and do sneaky things. Like kill the dudes going for mines.

If you camp them, they will come.

I did mine.

Not really becoz of its loots. It’s becoz I just want to participate the Anniversary event.

When I got in, Alliance was about on the Losing side. I made around 600 Honor kills with 2 or 3 Deaths. I helped made Alliance fight our way to the Mid-area. I realized that it’s like stalemate like the old AV’s in Classic.

I never lag’d. I enjoyed it. But I have to go when I realized that I am above the quota for the quest. I was about to leave when I saw the Horde summoned Lokholar. ROFL. I just leave. Have no time for it anyway. ROFL.

But I liked it though. Never thought I could amass tons of kills without much Death. It’s easy to abuse it as Range MM Hunter.

Was pretty laggy, managed to win after like 40 mins of slow push. A bit easier when both team are heavy on offense. Don’t really like the scaling as a tank feels like I have no hp.

they should make an anniversary WSG. there is not enough popcorn in the world for the threads that have.

I cannot lie…i’ve taken deserter out of the crap show at times.

I had a lot of fun with this event in season 2 of Shadowlands and then never again after that, because there’s always some issue completely ruining it.

Scaling everyone’s gear to down to Dragonflight endgame item levels doesn’t really seem fair when not every class and spec is equally affected by having their secondary stats basically cut in half
