Is it wrong to gear check people for dungeons?

This seems like an exaggeration.

“Mostly blues” at level 22 yeah right…

I’m level 30 and i did deadmines 3x, stockades 2x and I only have 2-3 blues total, the rest greens.

At 22 you should have mostly greens and maybe 1-2 blues.

As usual, Garmuck is 100% correct.

If you haven’t put in the work to show up with BIS gear, pots and world buffs . . . you can just GTFO of my deadmines group.

Uuhhhmmm actually…he’s wrong.

He said most of the party was 21-24 meaning they were still gettong xp from the mobs and bosses.

You shouldn’t even THINK about running Deadmines until you are in full BIS and out level every single mob in the dungeon by atleast 6 levels.

The AH is a thing.

A guildie of mine bought four blues last night for just over 1 1/2 gold.

I don’t really care about the gear as much as the levels. Having a full party level between 20-22 makes for a comfy DM run. Smaller aggro ranges, easier to kill mobs, and take less damage overall.

Some people do tend to blame others for setting requirements that they don’t meet.

If you follow through their intent, they are probably not the type of people you’d want in your HC dungeon anyway, especially if something starts going sideways.

You were doing a gear check for the Deadmines? It’s a low level dungeon. Are you serious?

What a joke.

Gear checking end game content? It is your right, but that makes sense given it’s a logistical ask.

Gear checking lowbie dungeons? It is your right, but it makes no sense as anyone who can play remotely above a potato can do that content; you probably could have had it close to done in the time it took to be picky, which seems contrary to your goal.

While it is your right to restrict your party in this way, you are doing something that is both VERY unusual and people are probably frustrated that you’re wasting their time as a result.

Chances are, you weren’t advertising this group as being gear checked, but instead were advertising this group as a DM group and waiting until whispers or such to interact this way.

Though if you DID advertise as gear checking, the community in trade SHOULD be applying social pressure to discourage behavior like this, as gear checking for DM doesn’t really DO anything in the positive but it does artificially gatekeep content that can basically be 3 manned at level anyway.

So yes, your party is your right, but we should be celebrating chat for trying to discourage you from engaging in poor social etiquette; that’s the role of a community/society and you can’t be expected to learn better if you aren’t being confronted!

Personally, I would have assumed you were doing it as:

  1. meme
  2. Because you simply didn’t know any better
  3. To antagonize/troll
  4. Because you legitimately believed this was necessary

In that order

Forum dwellers love to dismiss garmuck posts but he is usually right, and here too.
Gear checking people is important in hardcore. Your literal life depends on it

Having an opinion the masses don’t share is NOT trolling.

Just curious, how long did it take you to write that up?

and why not picking up women in dungeons…ive thrown a few around…

Did you even watch what happened, he totally got the girl(s). They just cant get enough of him

if people are going to be elitist about low level dungeons, fine :expressionless: I just won’t go. there are plenty of boars to safely grind my way to 60 with, thanks.

this. they know if they advertised gear checking they would get laughed at lol :expressionless:

Depends what you looking for, but already being 21-24 for a dungeon that can be done at 17, if you are already geared of blue, why would you require another dps to be geared equaly ?
The reality is you will not find many ppl of same lvl and gear as you for deadmines.

In the end it’s your own group so you invite who you wish. I would care less about what other says.

Checking for enchants and optimized gear for deadmines is laughable (and implies you’re probably a bad player who doesn’t know what they’re doing) but if its your group you can use whatever rules you want.

I did DM with a party of 18s in greens and whites.
Why bother if you’re over 20?

Just gonna leave this here…

Complains constantly about people requiring a certain level of gear for heroic raids.

Is LITERALLY gate-keeping DEADMINES.

You can’t make this stuff up.
