I’m debating about starting all over again leveling 1-70. I’m just not sure what class is best. I am a casual player. I like melee classes. I’m thinking of making a paladin.
That depends, do you want to pvp, pve? Raiding, mythic+?
You can play a class on one day, and the next day you play a different class until you find the class you want to play.
Just play whatever you find more fun.
No, I mainly do Mythic+ dungeons and that’s it.
The leveling process these days is ultra fast and catching up gear-wise once you level cap ain’t that bad either, so i say go for it.
Should you choose to do that, as a bonus you get to enjoy the Heritage Armor (assuming you do not already have it)
Do I still need xp armor to do that fast leveling?
Depends if you already have a ready to go max level toon in what you want to play or not for end game content or if you are just trying to relive your youth in WoW from many years ago. If you’re trying to relive your youth then I would say classic is the best route for that experience, because leveling in retail is super fast and nothing like the past. If you’re just looking to play end game content really if you already have a toon that is there and is geared. Leveling another one of the same type just to get it in end game play that you are already able to be in, if you already have that same class, is sorta a waste of effort.
DH is the best melee for dungeons if that is worth anything to you
Can’t go wrong with a paladin or demon hunter. Highly recommend both.
Are you talking about heirlooms? They haven’t given xp bonus in a long time.
I ask myself - if there is a direction I’d like to take, class I’ve not played in a long time, how can I approach this… fast leveling, dungeons, role play, read quests etc…
I never feel like asking others helps. Just work it down to an answer yourself.
If the same account then it’s pretty easy
If new account then it’s harder cuz you got access to nothing an have to rebuild
Timewalking is the best time to do it. You can dungeon 1 to 70 as tank or healer with mostly instant queues. Next time walking starts at level 30 for WotLK and it’s also Darkmoon Faire week for that sweet 10% bonus from riding the rides. Just make sure to keep the buff up or if you die to “teleport out of dungeon” hop on the carousel at DMF (queue there with all you need) and get the buff back and go back in to finish the dungeon.
I’ve done that and ended up hitting 1 to 70 in about 14 hours of play time doing just dungeons. So it’s a time saver for people who don’t have a lot of time to play and who work or have a lot of other IRL obligations. So that’s my suggestion on leveling.
As for starting over will you have heirlooms? If not doing all dungeons might be a bit precarious for gear later but you can use TW tokens to buy some basic gear from the TW vendor at 70 then do Emerald Dream and etc to get gear. Then go into M0 or M2s and work your way up. As for the class it depends on what you like and what you want too.
Will you go to a new realm with no gold?
Will you have heirlooms?
Do you want to solo old things without issue?
Will you only be doing M+?
Do you want to change specs based on season and do tank, healer and / or DPS?
Do you want to raid?
Will you do PvP?
The best over all classes to do “all things” is Monk, Demon Hunter and Paladin. Then you can do any specialization and have pretty good survivability (but you can’t heal on demon hunter). Paladins are pretty great utility wise I’ve heard / seen too. Monks can be great if you do it right too. Ultimately the choice is yours.
Edit: Blood Death Knights are good at soloing things and not dying too if you play them right too. Unholy puts out good damage too.
I wouldn’t be playing WoW anymore if I had a single char.
One of each class or bust.
Leveling is pretty easy. I too am casual (kind of) and find it relaxing. Gearing too is easy in the Emerald dream once you are 70.
Ohhh I wonder what features you’d be missing if you had to start over completely from scratch? Would you have to unlock all those allied races again? Unlock flying in lots of areas again? And think about the TRANSMOG omg! That’d be the truly devastating thing when you have absolutely nothing to wear…fashionpocalpyse brother.
Here’s my checklist of things I consider when starting a new character:
- Do I want to?
If yes, then I do it. If no, I don’t.
And that’s the list. There’s no magical reason to do it or not to do it, this is also the reason why folks bought boosts before they became a thing in the official store. Levelling can be fun, it can be tedious, it can be a way to change realms, to change factions, to change classes, to change races … or to just level up an identical character of what you already have just because “Hey, I liked my first character and now I have two of them”.
“Is it worth starting all over again?” is a weird question as a direct result. Because you aren’t. Nothing about what you are doing is ‘starting over’, it is to do something different or to do it as similar as possible to the first time you did it.
If you wanna do it … then do it. Rush it if you wanna, be as slow as you wanna be if you wanna take it easy. Do something weird or do something normal, just do something you find fun and the rest gets solved by itself.
Try whatever class you wanna try and if you dislike it, then you go and do something else. Can be a different class, can be to hop back onto your main to do a M+, and then back to levelling again to see if it was just getting too samey for you with that class. Or you try another one.
Just pick something and try it.
Holy moly you wrote like a whole essay Shadybolt.
Its about a 25 second read-time.
Not very long.
Paladin is fun OP, would recommend. As ret, you can toss out some off heals too if that’s your thing.
