Hello all, I am curious about the horde arena community. LFG as alliance is REALLY bad, to the point of many nights just simply not being able to find anyone to play with that fits my comp/xp/cr requirements. I would assume that the horde community is larger at least and potentially higher skill level? How do you feel about the horde vs alliance arena communities?

Yes. I’ve been alliance quite literally my entire time playing WoW all the way up until shadowlands for 2 reasons. A real life friend wanted to play, and LFG is much bigger.
I bit the bullet, paid the costs and faction changed. So far no regrets. RBGs, 2s, and 3s are all poppen on the horde side.
Alliance is pretty close to being dead with how weak their racials are compared to how strong they used to be.
I highly doubt alliance will ever see a good racial tune or race worth swapping back to anytime soon.
If you want to be competitive, you either need friends in higher places, or you have to be horde.

I’m pretty sure alliance racials are better than horde ones,
Paladin alliance 100% better
Rogue/druid better
Priest better
Hunter
Warrior I’d put at a tie
Mage I’d put at a tie
Dh alliance is better
Warlock I’d prolly put at a tie maybe giving ally slight edge cuz stun removal is better than fear removal overall
Shammy horde is better
There’s just abit of a brain drain+snowball effect going on on the ally side
From what I hear eu has the opposite problem

There’s a lot behind it, however even though alliance racials are nominally better most of the competitive scene is on Horde side.
Went from RBGs Alliance v. Horde to predominantly Horde v. Horde.
They are pretty even, but in my personal opinion, I think what really makes horde stand out even more is the fact that most horde races are more appealing to a wider audience simply because this is a fantasy themed game.
A lot of people don’t like to be humans in a game where you can not be a human by choice. However, if you give humans a strong racial, like every man for himself from MoP / WoD era, you’ll see that people with begrudgingly play human.
Having a racial that removes all cc on a 2 minute cd, which also grants essentially a third trinket slot makes it very persuading to play as one.
On the flip side, you nerf the one overly good racial, and people start to question why they play alliance when they can be an undead mage, warlock, rogue or priest.
Not to mention that horde racials can not be underrated. Many times have I war stomped two melee dps tunneling me to get a full 8 second uncontested repent on the enemy healer into a full hoj into a full fear, which leads to a kill.
Thats a racial that brings kill opportunities.
Nelfs shadow meld is really good for stealth users, casters and healers, while leaving much to be desired for melee. Smeld can grant free combat drops into mana drinks, you can also smeld things like chaos bolt, and if you really are a God, maybe even smeld a stun.
But its much harder to utilize smeld then it is war stomp. Dwarf racial also got nerfed too. At one point im psure you could use it while CC’d and now you can’t. Pretty weak considering that’s most likely the only time you’d want to use it.
Just to reiterate, again, all my opinion. You take people who want a fantasy based race, toppled with a racial that can be used offensively and not defensively and you create a very persuasive reason to roll horde over alliance.
Ally racials might be not be terrible, but they are not as good as they used to be. They do not bring kill opportunities and they are on races people do not want to play. I personally prefer male humans because asthetically they are more pleasing, at least as a paladin. But I prefer playing more than going after looks.
Take that 30$ or what ever it costs and roll a new game instead. Wow is pretty much on life support as it is and isn’t worth playing anymore.

Horde is da best
You will find many more groups for everything mythic+, raids, arenas, rbgs.
Thats all fair and good, horde racials also arnt as good as they used to be either. I tend to agree with you that they’re pretty much even for the most part in regards to horde vs alliance.
Horde ones were really op in legion and since then they’ve for the most part been pretty even.
Tbh I think the best solution would be to just allow cross faction arena and/or just allow everyone to pick a racial trait at the start of the match.
Alliance racials are better than Horde ones but Im guessing he really just means “EMFH is worse than it used to be” which is true.
alliance racials are fine some of them are actually really good. There are good players on alliance and bad ones just like horde I do not think its a huge difference. I do find LFG to be a bit better on horde side and it is way easier to win BG’s on horde.
So the point of this post was not really aimed at racials, but more at the overall arena community horde side, finding partners etc
It actually has nothing to do with racials. People just didn’t want to xfer back. Look at the ladder and AWC. Most of them play Alliance. As for EU, Horde is the dead faction.
Night Elf is 100% the best racial for Druid and Rogue. Human is 100% the best class for casters. Especially for Priest, there’s no good Horde racial for priest.
I know it’s kind of a hot take, but the majority will flock to get that 1% even if it won’t win them games.
There has always been at least some players on both factions. However, and please correct me if I’m wrong, but horde has been the dominant pvp faction since legion.
So heading on to the third xpac, even if people don’t pay for a faction swap, many of them had time to level an alt. Some did. Most didn’t. Leaving alliance to still be vastly underrepresented.
Alliance racials aren’t completely useless, but having a higher skill ceiling on something like smeld makes it harder to use and less appealing to the average player. Granted it’s only one racial thats a bit harder than other, the pattern of people flocking to one faction tend to be favored towards one stronger racial when compared to the rest.
Its really not hard to use EMFH, warstomp, WoTF, belf purge and the rest of the gang and the ease of use is definitely appealing.
I dont have numbers or stats, but i honestly would like to see alliance make a comeback to atleast like 40% of the pvp pop. Maybe its already there, but it doesn’t feel like it. It really did feel dead at the beginning.
Idk, it’s such a tricky topic because even if there was no racials, people would flock to where ever their favorite streamer is, and going back to my theory on people wanting to play non humanoid like races makes horde more appealing. Nothing you can do about that, except for maybe one day have cross faction que. /shrug
Edit: I also tend not to look at AWC because its a very specific and quite select few of people who play. Its not the ladder. You have an idea of who you are playing and thus can make a race best suited for the scenario. Retail ladder is all random. You could que into anyone on any comp at any time. There is no controlled variable.
I recently switched Alliance to Horde. The ONE thing I miss by focusing my Horde toons is Shadowmeld. It makes world content soooo much easier.
That said, I’ve found it much easier to get into M+ and other content. PvE content really needs merged faction listings at this point.
Yeah its worth if you don’t have any buddy’s to que with on ally.
Horde actually has people in LFG.

Hey bud, so here’s what happened. Usually every expansion the PvP population swapped factions to mix it up a bit. Cata was alliance, and MoP was mainly horde until the end. In WoD everyone went alliance, and in Legion everyone went horde. The PvP scene was so dead by the time BFA came out that everyone just stayed horde, even though alliance had by far the better city. The end of BFA was even more dead then Legion, so everyone returning is here to “give it a shot” and would rather not spend the money, so they’re all still horde.
There is zero reason to be alliance right now; which sucks because I personally prefer them to horde. However if you want to play the game with whats left of the already nearly dead LFG PvP community you need to be horde
Edit: yes, alliance have better racials (its why all AWC are ally, and all m+ are ally). People just can’t be asked to spend more money on this game at the moment. Personally 90% of my friend group has quit slands already, there’s only a few people left and even RBGs are becoming harder to LFG for
I think it’s more horde favorite because of PvE. Keep in mind that the majority of WoW players are horde because it’s BiS for raiding.
horde racials aren’t bis for most specs anymore, like mechagnome is bis for almost all dps. dmg is already done though, most of the pve population is horde so it’s easier to recruit/get into mythic raiding guilds and this has a trickle down effect where it’s just easier to pug keys, rbgs, arena, raids.
Okay like who wants to be a mechagnome lol. They are hideous. But yeah horde racial dominated for years and the majority of players are already integrated as hordes. I don’t see an alliance resurgence unless huge changes happen.
