Hello!
So I just recently returned to WoW after about a couple of years for the 20th anniversary. I’ve also heard a lot of great things about A War Within so that may definitely be on the horizon for me as well. As of now, i’ve been having a lot of fun with the event with timewalking, leveling alts, transmogs etc.
I never went through Dragonflight however. I haven’t purchased AWW just yet because i’m seeing if the “WoW itch” is temporary or if im back for the long run, but I was wondering, is it worth going through the Dragonflight content in between the event things? Or is it all pointless/outdated and I should just focus on the 20th anniversary and leveling alts?
Thanks in advance.
I went back through dragonflight because I wanted to at least see the campaign and make sure I didn’t miss anything important because if there’s one thing blizzard is notorious for doing it’s taking us back to the previous expansion for one reason or another. It turns out I was right, because since doing the war within, I’ve had to go back to the dragonflight zones 30 times and the only way to do the new anniversary secrets event is to have the three toys that all came from the dragon flight secrets event.

I just did on my new Druid because DF was my fave expac but I never played all the way through while it was the current expac. I think it’s worth it. It’s really pretty and I love all the quests.
It’s a great way to level up.

If you’re big into story and you actually read and retain the quests, it’s probably worth doing just to have the complete picture.
If you’re someone who just likes the gameplay and doesn’t care much about the lore, it’s probably not going to give you much.

Appreciate the feedback everyone!
Dragonflight is a fine expansion, but it might be worth noting that almost everything about it felt “safe”. The plot points were fairly minor in the grand scheme of things, the characters were largely specific to the expansion (even the dragon aspects just kind of stayed and aren’t around for TWW), and there’s no real grind to be done other than the gear treadmill (which is obviously irrelevant to leveling/questing). It TECHNICALLY acts as a bridge to the start of TWW, but only really in the very end with the final micro-patch lead-in quest that you wouldn’t see while leveling normally anyway.
Basically, it’s a fine expansion, but it’s not groundbreaking and you don’t need to go through it to understand anything about TWW. They even have a recap cinematic thing at the start to roughly catch you up on Xalatath stuff (which is largely not Dragonflight stuff).
Do it if you’re bored. Or finish leveling / playing with anniversary stuff and want to try questing properly before committing to buying an expansion. Probably on another character so you’re getting something out of it.
I personally have enjoyed TWW’s questing / story a lot more than Dragonflight’s. Initial x.0 patch ending was a little rushed but everything before that was solid and it’s obviously not ACTUALLY finished right now. (Ringing Deeps is lame though)
There’s a villain that survives the expansion and an object that directly led into the events of War Within and they’re both talked about in the dungeon Dawn of Infinite. Otherwise the rest of the expansion is… forgettable.
