Is it worth becoming a full time WoW Streamer?

Asmongold left leaving thousands of people hungering for WoW content which is a void I plan on filling.

My whole life people have told me I am very funny, I should be a comedian and I should get into Movies and stuff.

So I figured what better way than to become a full time WoW content creator.

Is it worth it go full time? How is WoW population now a days? Will I be able to pull views?

Most streamers make nothing, but some of them make a reasonable salary. If you’re in it for the money, I wouldn’t recommend it. If you’re doing it for fun, there’s no harm in trying!

I mean i’d say i’m pretty talented and naturally charming, I think I can easily pull it off. I know I won’t make Asmongold money, but I want to at least make 4 - 5k/month.

Do you have a big following already? No?
Then don’t go full time.

I got like 700 friends on Facebook, I can probably get a couple hundred viewers first steam.

it’s quite the gamble. depends on a mix of a lot of things and a good bit of luck too.

there’s a niche for everything but you gotta find it :stuck_out_tongue:

You don’t have to convince me, I’m not telling you not to do it. I don’t know who you are. You asked if it’s worth it, and I’m saying that it could be, but probably not. Being a professional streamer is not as easy as it looks, and most people start out making nothing or next to nothing regardless of how interesting they are.

If you had the ability to make 4-5k q month you would have already started, instead you started this thread to procrastinate and create excuses as to why you cant do it so you can justify to yourself why you are being lazy and not doing it.

The people who make it qre the ones who put in the ridiculous time and effort it requires to be successful in any medium. The ones who stand around endlessly talking about what “they want to do” or “what they could do” never actually DO.

So, do or do not, there is no try. Do it, or dont.

Wdym I never said I wanted to procrastinate or make excuses, I just wanted to know the state of WoW before I made content for it.

If it sounds like something you would enjoy doing, why not try? Some of the best streamers are the ones who interact with their viewers and not just treat them as a sounding board. If you can do that, be there for the people who are there for you, its likely you will do well.

If you’ve got free time, go for it, but don’t just stick to wow because there is no future there unless you started early and spent years w/ some luck a’la sodapoppin, asmongold to really make it worth the risk.

When/if things are moving in a worthwhile direction; I’d take the leap, 'till then just keep it as a side-thing.

You need to ask yourself first. Is it worth it to become a streamer. Then you need to do your research. youtube is a good start.

Yeah i’m a really good people’s person, I used to do charity work for homeless too and people loved my energy. I could kill it on Twitch.

Yeah this is what worried me ngl, I just didn’t want to commit all my eggs into 1 WoW shaped basket.

Wow is a glorified just chatting section.

If you are not interesting and if you don’t do youtube/elsewhere supplemental material it will be hard pressed to have anyone watch you.

I stream, not WoW… but have about 400-500 daily on a 50/50 partner contract… you won’t make that unless you also have multiple youTUBE channels that can pull 40-50k clicks per day with proper adsense and such

you also will most likely need to hire an editor and pay them a competative salary… you basically have to turn youself into a business, and bro… it is NOT worth it

Im also a former on air personality for the former ClearChannel in a major metro (its i<3Media now) and it was even hard for me after transitioning out of that career

Listen, it ain’t easy to make a living out of it. So instead of just taking the leap to full time outta the gate. Test the waters, once you CAN see the $$ coming in that helps you be financially good, then ya it makes sense.

Samadan who streamed WoW, tried after a bit to go full time in WoW. Granted it was gold making, it just wasn’t easy for him. It helped that he wrote for wowhead which got him lots more views.

Long story short, be realistic… test the waters… once that side thing becomes financially feasible… go full time… don’t just blindly go full time out the gate… you’ll most likely regret it.

Thing is to find some aspect of WoW that you could be entertaining at. Im not just talking about watching you quest or gather or run a dungeon - we can do that ourselves. But some aspect of it that could be fun to be a part of.

I remember a while back I subbed to a gold farmer (mostly to get tips on making gold) but she turned out to be a fun, pleasant streamer and what she would do is pick a gold farm and invite members of her audience to come along and take part using the add on Loot Appraiser in its group set up, and they would have competitions to see who gathered the most value in a set time. And even if you didnt get in the group you could do the activity yourself and see how much you got.

That sort of thing makes it a bit more immersive I guess. So maybe research what people do that viewers enjoy watching.

Wow is a game that is more fun to play than to watch. But if you want to stream, start small and get the hang of it.

You are making excuses.

If you wanted to know the state of wow you wouldnt be asking wow general you would be starting a channel and watching subscriber/viewer trends on streamers with a similar personality to you. Then figuring out how to create something that is unique, what your angle is to deliver a superior/competitive product in that market.

What you are doing is fishing, low effort nonsense to mentally check off that you “did” something without actually doing anything at all. The fact you think that its wow streaming and not the entertainment you offer doesnt bode well for your success at all. Thats not even trolling its just reality.

If you are entertaining its irrelevant the content more or less, you keep talking about your personality… so you arnt going to be offering cutting edge content you are going to be offering your personality. So everything going on in the background is going to be redunant nonsense that has existed in the game for years…

You have no clue, because you have kinda an idea of something you want to do but have no plan on how to do it. You are stabbing in the dark, because you arnt committed to the idea. It probably just popped in your head as a list of things that maybe you think you could do one day sorta a while ago.

Which, again, doesnt bode well for your chances of success.

Thats a lot of suppositions on my end, but i heard this same sort of stuff all the time professionally… and none of them ever made it anywhere because theres a difference between people who do, and those who talk about doing and you arnt asking any of the right questions to be a doer.

If you want to do this, you need to put in a lot of time, effort, and energy. Your problem isnt asmongold playing or not playing lol. If you are entertaining you could take marketshare from him at the hight of his fame. You need to start, you need to understand it takes at least a year to build anything, and you need to focus on honing your craft to make it anywhere.

Absolutrly NONE of that has anything to do with how wow is doing right now. Right now isnt even relevant, your timeframe is a year or more, but again, your product is you… your personality, not wow… so wows state is largely irrelevant because you could potentially pivot to something else if you found success.

Which, again, means starting.
