I’ve heard that at the beginning of the season, it’s much more difficult to gain rating. Is that true? If I reached 1800 at the end of last season, does that mean I probably won’t be able to now? I just want to know because if it’s true, I don’t want to waste my time trying.
That is true, yes. Its mostly caused of rating inflation we get every single week. Like every week the average mmr increases a bit. So at the end of the season, you have by default a higher mmr (often like 200-300 mmr more), which makes it easier to get to a specific rating.
At this point, it would be more interesting if Blizzard removed the rating requirement for 1800 sets and other smaller things, and instead put the number of matches won to unlock them. Above 2.1k, it would just be the special weapon effect, Gladiator title, and Gladiator mount.
Because this way, you could say that, by winning X matches, you unlock the 1800 set… for example, 2k matches won would unlock the 1800 set (at that point, getting 1800 wouldn’t mean much). This would make players simply ‘play’ without worrying about rank, abandonments, or losing 5 rounds and only winning one. It would be a personal reward system, not based on group skill, which is the current problem with SS.
The rank would just be something above 2.1k…
The two biggest problems I see are:
Problem 1: Players who lose almost every round because they ended up in an unplayable match – like, for example, a F.warrior in a lobby with 2 frost mages and 2 warlocks… this is practically a death sentence for the warrior, who will have to push himself to the extreme to do anything. Or an UDK who ended up in a match with two arms warriors and two DHs.
Problem 2: There are the unlucky ones who are playing a nerfed class and reach 1700s, staying at 4/6 or 3/6, basically stuck in the same place until a matchup comes where they lose 1/6 or 0/6 and drop back to 1500s…
The reward for individual effort was more necessary in these cases, but anyway, it’s just an idea…
