Is it too late to start Diablo 2/3?

I’m a semi harcore wow player and don’t play any other games. Being that DF is more laid back than other xpacs and doesn’t require infinite power grind, I find myself having a little bit of free time.

I see blizzard has a sale on Diablo and I was thinking about picking up the bundle that includes 2 & 3 but idk much about the games…

Is there a story mode or is it strictly multi-player? Is it too late to play those games now or still worth checking out?

How would you compare the gameplay to wow?

I don’t know. But, if you are truly interested in playing the game then I say play it, if you don’t like it then return it.

Its never to late. Both Diablo 2 and 3 have a campaign.

There are new seasons regularly in diablo 3 so there are people to play with or solo. Your choice.

There is no need to play with other players is 100% soloable

I’m not REQUIRED to play with anyone though, right?

If I just want a solo experience of the campaign story, will I be missing out on anything if I play alone rather than with a party?

Play Diablo 2, this game is perfect!
Go Sorceress

Not at all, I mean I never played D2 with anyone, the same for D3, and I had a fantastic time in both. I think they are both great games.

They are mainly solo and they are always good to play.

D2 is game of the year all years but that’s just my 90s nostalgia. It’s a bit different than d1, though. And d3 is waaay different, much more modern.

They’re all good solo, okayish Multiplayer but best with friends.

D2/D3 are insanely fun and enjoyable just dodge Immortal and D4 like a hacky sack full of parental disappointments. D4 is looking more and morel ike a revamped Immortal, so D2/D3 are safe bets.

Diablo 3 is somewhat closer to WoW, but with much faster gameplay, and you play alone (or with small party). The whole world is an instance that resets when you leave the game. The similarity is that you level a character through quests and get gear along the way, then you reach max level and start gearing endgame until you get BiS. Gear is very much like WoW with main stat and stamina (vitality) plus secondary stats, different levels of rarity. The difference is that it’s generally about killing hordes of enemies instead of one by one, or big bosses with mechanics.

Diablo 2 is an old school arpg, much slower, more nuanced. The core is the same, but much less streamlined. Sort of like classic WoW compared to retail.

The world in both is linear, and not like WoW where you can go explore anywhere. You can backtrack, but generally zones are linear as you progress.

There’s is some crafting in both. In D3 it resembles WoW the most, but it’s just barebones blacksmithing and Jewelrafting. D2 has weirder crafting, without a UI, have to read recipes on external websites.

You can start D2 n 3 whenever you want, they aren’t even remotely connected to WoW.

Different gameplay than WoW too. Diablo games are hack n slash.

It’s not too late, esp. for single player games. Diablo can be mulitiplayer, but it doesn’t have to be. You can play Diablo solo if you want, whether it’s the original Diablo or something more recent.

I have a bunch of games on Steam that I can play and some of them are from many years ago. I can play the original Doom any time I want to, even though it first came out almost 30 years ago (boy does that make me feel old lol).

Yo thank you for the detailed answer. I grabbed the Diablo 2&3 bundle and tried D3 for about an hour. Having a blast so far!

Not late, but there are certainly better games in the same genre.
Grim Dawn is an example of them.

And honestly I still don’t know whether to buy Diablo 4.
Not after the fiasco that was Diablo 3 and the horror of Diablo Immoral.

Idk what fiasco you’re talking about. I ended up playing some D3 yesterday and had a blast.

Play all 3 in prep for 4.

Diablo masterpiece just nails the dark atmosphere and if your playing at like midnight in a poorly lit room on your first encouner with the butcher chef kiss

Diablo 2 is refined to even more perfection (though i do perfer the first diablo i feel like 2 and 3 can kina drag from a pacing issue becaue they break everything up into chapters)

Diablo 3 from a mechanic standpoint its solid but just doesnt have that dark gothic atpmasphere of 1 and 2

It’s never too late. This isn’t an MMO where you have to catch up to anything.

If you’re having fun then that’s great.

But when I bought Diablo 3 years ago I was expecting a Diablo 2 with better graphics.

The reality was very different.
Not only that, every RPG aspect it had disappeared to make room for … I don’t know how to explain it, but I feel like I’m playing an Arcade and not an RPG.

And as others said, there is the visual aspect.
The devs were trolling their consumers, there’s no other way to explain it.
