Is it time to re-add certain Vanilla gameplay elements to Retail?

Bots go where the wallets go. And the wallets aint going to retail.

Absolutely not.

Retail is their actual moneymaker. Retail is where most of the players are. Classic is for nostalgia-based gaming.

Your delusions are actually hysterical.

Of all the interesting things SoD actually does and the megamind idea that OP had was bringing back hunter ammo.

Bro the only reason anybody plays retail at all is because it rides off the coattail of original WoW.

There’s been dozens of mmo’s exactly like retail WoW, and unless they have the name WoW or final fantasy attached to them nobody plays them.

Class quests.

Original WoW. You mean RETAIL that CLASSIC is riding off the coat tails of? Huh. Tell me more about your delusions. I’m so very curious to see how deep they go, and what kind of mental gymnastics you come up with to actually support your claims.

Frankly they should just delete retail and invest all of their time into either WoW 2 or classic +

Retail has problems that can’t be fixed without a full reset.

You think dragonflight is original WoW? If they had released dragonflight in 2004 it would’ve made the same cultural splash it made in 2021…none. No cartoons are going to parody Dragon flight. No late night show will mention it. News will never cover it.

Classic WoW is like Shadow of the Colossus or Half-Life or friggin Pacman. Classic games never stop being classic.

How dare you compare the heap of garbage that is Classic to Shadow of the Colossus. You are so unbelievably delusional, it is now painful. You no longer entertain me with your delusional dribble, and are now blocked. People like you are a plague.

IGN has SotC at 39 on their best of all time list, WoW is 47. Google has WoW immediately listed on the front page when you google best computer games of all time. GQ has WoW at #22.

Sorry but WoW will forever go down in history as one of the greatest games of all time. And Dragonflight will be a footnote in those videos with titles like “how the greatest MMO died” “How WoW lost it’s way” or “How expansions ruin a classic game.”

I mean… you definitely aren’t wrong that retail has vanilla to thank for everything that lead to it, but retail has evolved beyond the mundane gameplay of vanilla. Yes, mundane. Very, very mundane.

“Ooh… I gotta drink my water cause I’m OOM before I pull this next singular tiny low-level mob. This is so immersive and stimulating. WOW!”

The mob tagging is an absolute nightmare.

Something I took for granted on retail.

Even worse with the new runes in SOD.
Farm mats or gold to summon npc for rune.
Someone steals the tag.
You’re SOL.

I think a better solution would be to expand the gameplay. For examples when you go to a supposed to be (large) town and it’s 3 huts… With wow’s age I think the tiny downscaled zones are the biggest offender… They felt bigger in Vanilla cause of walking and no flying, few mounts So things felt vast. These days I think Blizzard should invest in making zones larger… nothing breaks immersion faster then entering a vast forest only to walk out the other end 2 seconds later… I would’nt want to bring back regeant vendors but I see nothing wrong with a class quest where you have to use them for the first rank of the spell and as you progress in level and hit rank 2 on the spell you no longer need the regeants cause your power has grown.
Or something like that.

Yet the people that will play SoD will come nowhere close to the people that will play the world sous saga.

Yes there was excitement, myself included, I was incredibly hyped, unfortunately it’s not living up to the hype.

Go check the SoD forums. It’s crashing hard in less than a week.

I would like them to have dungeons again that needed CC to succeed (instead of the “how many rooms can I pull” sweepstakes).

Ah yes god forbid there is mana in my rpg. Managing resources? Pfff who wants that? /s

I like playing DnD without spell slots too that way I can cast my biggest strongest spell all the time and never need to rest. More fun right?

Using mana efficiently is part of the gameplay. Thats why retail sucks, because its basically dance dance revolution.

Once again, vanilla fanboys have to strawman me to make any sort of point. Where did I say that there shouldn’t be mana? Where did I say there shouldn’t be any strategy or resource management? Nowhere. Absolutely nowhere.

I said that it doesn’t make sense to have to drink water between every minor pull for low-level mobs. It’s tedious and doesn’t add anything to the game. It’s just there to fill out the playtime of the game.
