Is it time to drop engineering? 8.3?

Ok, I will try to be brief. Long time vanilla player, I’ve been an engineer since vanilla but I’m finding less and less reason to keep it around.
I am a also a tailor due to the flying carpet mount but since I’m a shaman I’m thinking about adding leatherworking and dumping my beloved engineering.
Sure there are some cool gadgets like cloak flying etc but are they really necessary anymore? I know I can pick it back up if I really want something without losing previous recipes.
I’m struggling to make the switch but I would like to craft some armor and I only ever have BOP goods on my main for crafting, like expolsum this time around
thanks

It’s just time to let us learn all professions on one character. Maybe only be able to have 2 active at a time, with a small fee to switch, But we need to be able to have them all and switch without losing anything.

If you want to learn a new profession, go for it. As you said you can just pay to have recipes relearned. Ive had so many recipes for BOP and love it, being a transmogger. I have had engineering a couple times (like when it was gnomish or goblin. Not sure if that is still a thing) and it had its uses back then, but not so much now

I didn’t think you could pay to relearn all the recipes you had previously had, just the ones related to the profession quests. That was so you could get all the recipes learned from the one time quests you got as you leveled. I don’t think it reaches back before WoD, and you certainly don’t get anything you bought from the trainer or learned from a BoE you bought or found. If you have some really rare recipes you may not want to gamble on getting them back. :speak_no_evil::hear_no_evil::see_no_evil:

i would recommend not dropping engineering at all

we can craft azerite armor at a mythic ilvl that is often competitive with BiS pieces

Ok, I wasnt 100% sure. I haven’t dropped a profession in a long time. I thought the book restored all recipes. If it doesnt, then I wouldnt swap. I know I personally have almost every LW one in the game (besides Aldor from BC), so I wouldnt want to lose that

The book only restores recipes that you get from quests, e.g. the Legion quest line recipes.

Where do engineers learn to make armor?

Wait, back up. Source, because I’ll flat out relevel engineering on every toon I have it on to have a cape mod that lets me fly.

all engineers can craft head armor

The cloak tinker that acts as a goblin glider.

Do not drop your profession. I did this on a different toon, went from cloth/enchanting to herb/alchemy. Both are good, but when I bounced back to cloth/enchanting…omg…cost 50k to quickly get it ranked back up and lost all the previous expansion receipes I got from boss drops, world drops, etc etc.

However, if u have jewelcrafting: Drop it like it’s a live grenade and run for the hills

If you want relevant professions they will probably need to go the other direction and only allow one profession per server, not character. Remove profession restrictions and add a lot pre cursor dependencies. Black smiths make vials for alchemist type of thing.

why do people bother with professions that are not alchemy? Flasks, gems and enchants are only thing you actually need from professions. And flasks cost too much to buy from AH

But where do we learn to make AZERITE armor/head gear?

Armor crafting professions this expansion give you a Mythic level item in 2 slots with a socket. Also I find the lock opening given by Blacksmithing and Inscription to be useful.

you should be able to learn the initial pattern at your trainer

after that you get the next ilvl item from crafting the previous

so to get my 445 goggles i had to craft the 430 and 415 pieces

Goggles. The goggles are Azerite armor. Making the lower item level goggles discovers the recipe for each higher item level goggles.

For all practical purposes, professions have barely existed for a few xpacs now. I wouldn’t jump ship from engineering because none of the others are much better. I keep hoping for a professions renaissance but it has yet to happen.

or i can just get that item from m+/raid
alchemy has trinket to craft aswell. It’s not very good, but still.
