I mean, this youtube influencer thought on these killer features in one night, and Blizzard is repeating the same borrowed power and cosmic stuff for years now…
Implement these ideas, bring back the sense of meaningful progression and WoW will be an RPG again instead of the arcade-like game it is now.
Ammo - filled up hunter’s bags and required time off to craft them - go check classic wow how annoying it was. You never had space, if you ran out of arrows, you were dead weight DPS.
Elemental resistance - annoying to grind out just for one boss, then next boss you had to get frost resistance, then next boss shadow…etc etc. Too much.
The ideas were brought up.
But anything RPG, a lot of players just rage against because it’s not convenient enough for them and ultimately find all these attempts annoying.
I think they ‘tried’ to bring back some rpg elements of past iterations but it’s been not that well received.
I have zero interest in fluffing up the view numbers for the person that made the video, so i’ll just comment on the picture. Personally, I do not feel that the class hall should be made the focus of another expansion, but making extensive use of them would be a good idea. Some had a lot of work put into them and letting them collect dust seems to be a waste. The DK one is probably the only one still used - for runeforgeing - outside of a brief quest scenario. Of course, it is simply a [very much] spruced up of the HQ they have had since Wrath.
What about not playing an rpg if you don’t like it then?
I actually quite liked the arrow fantasy in classic (I actually played a hunter in classic), of course they could solve this bag space problem with some other thing like a exclusive space for arrows, but imagine expand on this idea and having elemental arrows, stunning arrows and alike?
Feeding your pet was fun, having a min range to shoot your arrow and having to have equipped melee weapons for when you got up and close was super fun. I actually really like hunter in classic but I hate it in retail as it has become the most arcady and unimmersive class to date.
WoW is an MMORPG (or at least should be) not an MMOARCADE
You know what’s a rpg element, weapon skills. You know what’s not fun, stabbing spiders and boars with gray weapons. Not all rpg elements add to the game.
This is exactly his ideia and I agree. Class fantasy worked really well in Legion and should be in every expansion. I was way more engaged with my order hall than i am with my covenant.
I guess you don’t like RPG’s then. Weapon skill, although the original version is a little bit dated and simple, was actually a good idea in my opinion. I think it would be fun to have to train a new weapon skill before being able to use it to its full potention. What about expanding this weapon skill system and create fun grinds to it instead of adding a new borrowed power every xpac?
In a more literal sense, no it isn’t that hard for the next expansion to be more immersive with it’s systems, world building and class design.
However it’s possible that the current team doesn’t fully grasp RPG mechanics and are better suited to games like Diablo 3 than a MMO.
Anything is possible of course but don’t get your hopes up just yet.
Yes it is difficult because choices need to matter that is effect what you do in game ( no as along it does not effect X I don’t care …nope nope nope it must effect X then only it will matter. ) and our plaeyrbase do not want choices they want options or stuff being optional.
You can kill Alliance and Horde without killing PVP and WPVP, present us with some factions that have their own principles, and let it be detached from the main story. You could even have some quests in order to be able to join them. Then you could have your PVP between factions based on pre-established alliances or even on your reputation with the factions, finally making sense of the “at war” reputation feature.
Talk about bringing player agency…
But it seems immersive rpg elements are boring right?
i think it’s ridiculous that crafting a set of armor takes only a few seconds. it should take weeks. that would be much more RPG-like and feel very immersive
What about having a mini-game everytime you craft and making the resulting item lvl be related to how well you perform on the mini-game, tying the crafts to real world mastery?
RPG !== Realism, you can have immersion in a fantasy game with cartoony graphics. It just take it to not spawn an arrow from nothing everytime you pull your bow string.
I actually ran out of arrows in one classic dungeon I was playing, what did I do? I went full melee because hunters actually have some melee skills in classic. And it was the most badass moment to be fighting alongside my pet. Yeah, I did about 30% less dps than I could be doing but I did not compromise the group and was having a lot of fun.
Do I get those moments in the Arcade of Warcraft retail? never.
Just because it was done that way previously, doesn’t mean it has to be done exactly that way now. But, some (I’d say most) should still exist. Likewise with elemental resistance. Grinding for it shouldn’t be purely dungeon grinding, but questing and crafting should make up the rest. That’s classic RPG stuff.
The RPG aspect of running out of ammo IS an RPG mechanic that kept DPS from basically becoming DPS in WoW these days. Maintenance of articles like poisons / oils / arrowheads / ammo, and to a lesser extent food and potions, separated the really good DPS from the really basic DPS. The lower (or lazy) DPS players just wanted in on the groups, and Blizzard made the process quicker, then nuked it entirely.
I think it was a mistake, because some people think more about their groups, and they would bring TONS of items for themselves AND their parties. It was an overall fun experience, and made groups fun. Nowadays, Mages and Warlocks barely have a chance to churn out food and shards before people just start running.
Hell, if stop to say ‘hi’ when you teleport into the dungeon these days, everyone’s already on the first boss. That’s lame. People today in WoW complain about ‘their time’, but you’re in an MMORPG, literally the time sink of games. It’s not supposed to be lightning speed lobby gaming. RP does way more than what people give it credit.
