Is it possible to have fun?

I have been playing on a PvE server since release day 1, mostly bc I hadn’t played since I quit after BC in retail a decade or so ago. My question is- now that I’ve improved and have become comfortable again, is it possible to restart on a PvP server with a level 1 lock and still have fun, or will I be getting ganked non stop in low level places? Will I be able to afford anything? I would be soloing half the time and have a healer w me the other half… What are your opinions?

Step 1: Create Lock on PvP Server
Step 2: Play Lock
Step 3: Check For Fun
Fun? Yes - Keep Playing
Fun? No - Log Off
Start over at Step 2, repeat until lvl 60 or quit.

You will be fine leveling solo as a lock, and with a healer you will be god like.

Don’t sweat too much about playing on a PvP server, it’s got less world PvP than a PvE server and is filled with fragile non pvping PvE players that are afraid of losing their world buffs.

This is obvious and logical but my time is at a premium so attempting to gather opinions as to not waste time.

If you want to play a lock, go for it. Will you get killed in WPvP? Probably. Will you get killed often in WPvP? Very Unlikely. Will you get jumped in WPvP and then kill your attacker? Yes, this can happen, also, because you are a Warlock, God’s gift to PvP

Absolutely you can have fun. Although I am a fan of a smaller server at endgame, for leveling I would choose a somewhat larger (but not gigantic) server, because the smaller servers have small leveling populations and it will be more difficult to find groups for the things you want to do.

You will get ganked here and there, but it won’t by any means be unplayable. You’ll run back, brush it off and continue. I recently leveled a Shaman to 60, and I got ganked a lot, but I don’t think I got camped once in my entire journey. I’d get ganked, run back and continue what I was doing in peace. I found groups for what I was looking for when I wanted to for the most part and all in all had a good leveling experience.

The only zones right now where world PVP is going on continuously is the lvl 55+ zones (or other high level herb zones) as well as Felwood (songflower buffs).

In most other zones, it’s really not that bad. You won’t get ganked much given how many alts are just getting boosted in ZG/Mara or elsewhere.

Do you know a server you that fits what you recommend?

Priest was my first toon and I hit 60 faster leveling as holy.

Lock was my second and it took me at least a month longer because I had to deal with level 60s.

So it depends on what you mean by fun. Retail is a lot funner but it sucks. As a lock I would go horde just so you don’t have to deal with undead also some servers are 80% horde so PvP won’t be as big an issue.

The world is fairly empty because most alts never leave their boost dungeons.

I think I’ve been ganked once in the last month of leveling as alliance.

I’m not really able to speak to servers I don’t play on, just the ones I do play on. I’m a RPer so I play on both RP-PvP servers and I really like the vibe and dynamic on those servers. I can tell you the experience that I detailed above was on Grobbulus, and if you think that RP-PvP rather than straight PvP is something you might be interested in, it is the better choice of the two for a reroll due to its size.

Is it possible to see the Horde to Alliance breakdown somewhere?

ironforge.pro … click demographics

it pulls only from raid logs so it’s incomplete, but it’s the best estimate available.

ignore them people think its cool to act elitist on the forum

If you play in Ganktown you’ll get ganked.

But the question is puzzling. “Will I have fun, or will I be getting ganked nonstop”? The only point to a PvP realm is that people can attack you at any time in most of the world. If that’s not what you consider fun, the solution is obvious.

Nobody lvls anymore so ull be safe, everyone is boosting to 60

I am currently leveling a Horde Rogue, who is level 41. I have so far killed every single alliance I’ve seen and at level 41 I have only 23 kills. I’ve been ganked about 5-6 times from level 60’s and twice from alliance around my level. I know that doesn’t answer the question of how much you will get ganked, but my point is that world PvP seems to be somewhat uncommon, especially now that lots of people are boosting.

I’d say pvp is rare enough that I actually get excited when I see another player with a red name tag. Simply put, leveling a new toon on a PvP server isn’t bad at all. This is my only character on this server as my friends played horde and I originally went alliance. I finally decided to make a Horde Rogue on their server.

Appreciate the mostly informative opinions, thx

I think it’s possible, more likely on an RPPvP server though
