Is it possible to have a viable Blue build?

Hello fellow Evokers. As you can see from my profile I am a big fan of the blue dragon aesthetic and that extends to the blue Evoker spells as well. They look fantastic whereas the red ones… well they barely even look red to begin with, just don’t look like fire at all, and seem somehow, idk, unsubstantial. I get that they were trying to give them a different look and feel to distinguish them from other classes that use fire spells but it really fell flat, at least imo.

I don’t mind using Pyre or Fire Breath every now and again but Living Flame as the main filler spell is really cramping my style. So I guess my question is: how much am I gimping myself if I use Azure Strike as my filler (even in single target) and don’t take any of the Living Flame talent nodes?

Not massively… but Living Flame can be used to buff your disintegrate damage, to the point that you can do Living Flame > Disintegrate, and the mob dies. Then you repeat on the next mob, and just cast Azure Strike when you don’t have charges for Disintegrate anymore. I found this to be quite efficient and managed to unlock shadowlands flying and ZM flying on my Dracthyr in a day or two, even though I haven’t played retail since before 9.1 (including the CoD campaign, Covenant campaign, and ZM campaign).

I’ve tried a few different builds, but the ones that I find most efficient focus on Disintegrate.

I mean what is “viable” in your understanding?
Will it be best dmg? likely not.

This is my current plan for DF Endgame I’m also a huuuge fan of the Blue side of the Tree.

Basically what it changes is the Rotation after using Empowered spells. Especially during Dragonbreath.
You do Fire Breath(FB) into Living Flame x2 or mix it with Pyre (especially at 20 stacks of Charged blast)
Then Eternity Surge(ES) into Shattering Star into Disintegrate

After that you spam your favorite filler(Azure Strikes is faster but less power) until Essence Burst into Disintegrate in Single Target and Pyre in Multi Target.

You also have some free points in Eternity’s Span (Multi vs Single) and maybe Font of Magic for more upfront dmg of FB or more targets with ES

Or take out Catalyze and take Onyx Legacy for more Deep Breath.

Sadly, none of the race capstones are particularly enticing for the Devastation build, probably the only class that can just grab stuff from the first 2 tiers of the tree and no worry about anything else, because it just adds utility and stuff we already have as duplicate etc…

I’ve actually been running a very similar build (just at 60), but I daren’t even use Pyre or Dragonrage unless there’s an AOE pack. Neither of them feel like they do much damage single target, and although the Dragonrage buff is nice, it’s very short lived and hard to extend, and you have lost your 20 stacks of damage during that period so the resulting damage output doesn’t feel any higher than without it.

I just run around with my full 20 stacks until I see a pack of 5 or more, then 1 shot the entire pack - that feels good to me

So far I have been able to make viable builds from what we are given. I’ll take a look at it here in a bit and see if I can make one and I’ll get back to you.

Overall they pretty much force you to take both and that you can only reasonably spec into Fire Storm or Shattering Star.

Capstones leave much to be desired and the class is primarily about Essence spam.

And avoiding Living Flame means you gimp yourself on your selfhealing capability.

I prefer the Fire Storm DoT build myself so outside of Essence Procs, Eternity Surge and Dragonrage I don’t use Blue spells often. It feels good to have 3 Fire Storms running at the same time.

Once we can get to Lvl 70 I’m probably going to try a talent spread that doesn’t use Dragonrage at all.

Stacking Iridescence and Shattering Star may be worthwhile.

So with the expansion you either have 2 minute burst windows with Dragonrage or a bunch of little bursts with Shattering Star.

Personally I’m just doin my own thing not following any guides or meta with a Green build because if it isn’t obvious I’m a big fan of the Green Dragonflight :dracthyr_comfy_sip:

That’s almost exactly the build I intend to use except I take Onyx Legacy instead of Catalyze because Deep Breath just looks too cool not to use more often. :joy:
