Strong’s Concordance helps understand the Bible though I must say Bible Hub helps one compare the actual Hebrew with words to get a proper translation.

Ironic how for Isaiah the translator hired by King James translated the description of the despised Medium better than he did for the Torah where he turned a single description for a type of Medium who calls up the dead into a ban on multiple types of Spellcasters.

If he had been as accurate with the Torah as he was for Isaiah the Witch Hunters would have had less fuel for their Witch Hunts since the description would be of a specific type of Spellcaster.

Even despite that the Concordance’s dictionary for Hebrew makes the laws of the Torah easier to understand and believe me they are much less restrictive than the departed King James’s translator made out.

what makes you think it’s fiction?

There are historically verifiable events written within the bible.
I like to think it’s our oldest history book thats been warped, twisted, weaponized, and battered into something people have learned to reject before understanding the slightest thing about it.

Incidentally if people would read it thoroughly they might lose their notions that God won’t interfere with our free will due to the statement that he doesn’t tempt people to Sin.

Israelite King Amaziah is proof of God’s willingness to revoke Free Will as when Amaziah turned to idolatry and threatened God’s prophet he had his Free Will taken away which led to him delivering himself into his enemy’s hands.

Loss of Free Will is a Punishment upon Sinners! Of course a person whose had their Free Will taken away sending them to their imminent demise rarely notices.

Agreed. The translations are quite appalling as one needs a Hebrew and Greek Dictionary and the means of comparing verses(in the Hebrew Old Testament and Greek New Testament) for similar words to figure out what is actually written in such a rich history book.

The fact that you have to ask if it’s okay to talk about the Bible really says something about how frowned upon it is in recent years. Sad times.

Jeremiah 9:11 is the basis on our guild:

“I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a den of jackals. I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.”

Substitute Jerusalem for Stormwind City, substitute cities of Judah for cities of the Alliance(which would be IF, Darn, Exo). The guild’s goal is to defeat the Alliance on their home turfs.

In the Apocrypha’s Testament of Solomon, Solomon’s defeat of the demon Asmodeus represents his victory over internal darkness. With divine wisdom (1 Kings 3:12), Solomon uses a magical ring to control the demon, showcasing his ability to overcome both external evil and personal temptation.

This victory highlights that true strength comes from wisdom and divine guidance, allowing Solomon to triumph over both external forces and his own flaws.

I remember buying a bible for a Catholic relative, and I got guff because it was the King James Version.

I didn’t know there were different bibles for Catholics and Protestants. They call it “THE bible” not “one of them bibles”

Well, I learned something that day.

Their correlation with real events does not mean the events that happened, happened as described in the bible. I think most theologians agree they are myths with embellishment near more to the Illiad or Odyssey rather than a non-fiction work like an encyclopedia. So like you can say that the iliad is based on the war of troy which is thought to be a real thing that happened, but the gods intervention and all these fantastical events are just cultural effects for story telling purposes. Anyone can write about things that happened and then add whatever they want onto it.

For instance, someone could say 9/11 was an act of god and that he personally came down and guided the hijackers as they piloted the planes to reach their targets. Or at least this is very similar to the way that radicalized extremist will mythologize their wars. I had my friend translate one propaganda video to english many years ago so I could understand what I was even reading as a part of a journalism class paper, and it said something like “and god will guide our bullets, if he wills it, into their skulls, and we will send them straight to he**, if god wills it.” And you can look at their accounts of what happened or you can just say “they shot people with guns and it was them that acquired, loaded, and shot the guns at people, and there was no mystical intervention involved.”

Same thing with the bible. War of Jerico probably happened, did a magical trumpet collapse the wall? Probably not. But it makes for a more interesting story for the people that record the events.

If you’re interested in some good reading though look up a paper called “is god timeless or temporal?” It’s a very good read with lots of religious/theological theory, such that I’m surprised it hasn’t been the plot of a movie to discern. Many movies maybe draw inspiration from it or concepts/debates like it though.

I think that the Bible would be okay to bring up in here. I also think that people are pretty set by now about what they think of the Bible and are set in thinking that they are right. This just goes with the territory.

I was glad to see someone mention Strong’s and some of the other comparison books that align with the Greek or other older versions. This is a very recent thing! The rise in literacy since 1900 and the rise in mass publishing let regular folk like you and me take a deeper look into this stuff.

Considering a 2000 year run with only a recent bit with the common folk able to read and or research is remarkable. Sadly, the rise in literacy is over and has been dropping since 1960.

Blizzard said that this is off topic from Wow - Books and comics. Last time i checked it is a book and its the most sold book in the world. Gee I wonder why?

Because it has lots of stuff in it that hasn’t aged well, not to mention its timeline has been pretty thoroughly debunked.

That said, the teachings of Jesus specifically are pretty good and surprisingly progressive.

The answer to that question is obvious. No! Blizzard censored all my previous posts on the Bible that were on this forum for quite some time. Many people responded to them as well and just recently they were removed. This is a great error on behalf of Blizzard. Redacting the truth is not the way. But they seemed to have left one of my old posts awhile back titled “ The new Commonsense Revolution. Gee i wonder why America. Interesting.

I see them now.

Actually it’s a violation of the forum rules to discuss politics and religion anywhere in the forums.

Free speech doesn’t mean what you think it does.

No you don’t see them you are looking at my new posts after Blizzard redacted my previous posts.

Last time i looked the Bible is a book which can be commented here because this forum is for comics and books. Also I get the sense that AI is controlling all these forums now.
