Is it okay for me to play Human Priest?

I am curious how many of you will be playing Human or Night Elf Priest instead of Dwarf. I know the purist all say go Dwarf due to Fear Ward, but I simply just do not like the visuals of Dwarves and would not enjoy playing one. At the same time, I do not want to be burdened by Raid / Dungeon Groups and Guilds not taking me due to me being a Human Priest instead of Dwarf.

Your thoughts?

I’ve never been rejected from a group because I play a human priest. It has NEVER come up. However, I do like fear ward when playing at Raven Hill lol.

Seriously, just be a good healer.

Fear Ward will be missed, but it won’t make or break you. Priests are already so valuable that your race won’t make too much of a difference when applying to groups. Play human and enjoy yourself.

I would play those if I was on alliance side, because playing dwarfs aren’t my thing.

People wanted dwarfs to cheese the mechanics with fearward and if they have no choice but to chose a human then thats that.

Why does this keep coming up? Are people watching youtube videos and getting taught false things? Play what you want, it’s vanilla, the casual MMO, designed for everyone to make it. You can have half your raid auto-attack and the other half playing and still down bosses!!!

You will never find a group or raid as a human priest, and you will be looked down upon by everyone. Enjoy.

I’ve yet to see any tank tell a priest to go away because they rolled anything but a dwarf.

Dungeon groups won’t care about fear ward - it’s just not important.

Raid groups may strongly prefer to have 2-3 dwarves so they can rotate fear wards, but are going to bring more than 2-3 priests.

Back during Vanilla wow I played a human priest and never had an issue getting into a party, guild, or raid. I don’t think you will have an issue with it.

If a male Human, you can gyrate your crotch in the face of Dorf Priests and flex all over them with your +5% Spirit.

well that and other sources. I would also guess people get a wee apprehensive being a healer in vanilla? Not sure what OP’s story is.

A girl I used to talk to on WoW said Male Human priest reminded her of pedophiles in the church. So by that, I would say no, it’s not okay to be a human priest, at least male. Female sure.

No, once you make a non-dwarf priest the min-max brigade swoops in from a helicopter and camps you repeatedly until you logout.

It’s rather obvious from this character having been my main since 2006 that I don’t much care about the meta.

The only people who will be making a fuss that you should have gone dwarf and not inviting you because dwarf are not worth playing with. Much better to find the rest of the players, the ones who care more about your ability to actually heal them and be a good group member.

Human is just fine. You have a spirit bonus and keep desperate prayer. Elf is the only race I would say is bad for priest. Their race spells are garbage and shadowmeld certainly doesn’t make up for it.

I played a human priest in Vanilla. The spirit bonus is good for levelling. I never had a problem. Fear ward is certainly useful - especially on onyxia (one of the release raids) - but provided there are at least 2 (maybe 3) dwarf priests in your raid group then all other races are fine. We used to raid with 7-8 priests in a 40-man (all holy).

I don’t understand why this is obsessed over either. There are only a handful of raid bosses that use fear, and three that I can think of are jokes anyway. Arguably all of them, really. In dungeons, it’s even more ridiculous. Any guild that cares about maximizing everything to that extent shouldn’t be concerned with Fear Ward because their players should never actually need it.

Thank you for the replies. I have just been told so many times that it will burden me by not playing Dwarf Priest and playing Human Instead. I personally don’t think it is that big of an issue since Human’s have a slight Spirit boost anyways and not all bosses have Fear mechanics…

I picked a male dwarf, making him grey hair and long beard with name Gandalf. The character becomes deep now.
