Is it normal for healers to get blown up in seconds?

I used to PVP religiously as a Holy Pally in Cata - WoD. Once they dropped gear vendors I stopped PvPing because I hated the new system and started PvEing instead. I’m getting back into PVP for the first time in years and I know my 270 PvE gear doesn’t have verse but jesus christ…

I know part of it is being rusty and and all that but when I trinket or bubble rogue opener… only to have to trinket or bubble the next stun, then die to a 3rd stun… sometimes there’s not even a stun it’s just too much damage for me to heal through. Not only rogues though, fury warrior, ret pallies, DH, monks… etc. I just can’t seem to do much, I die SO fast.

Looking through the forum it seems like grinding out honor gear probably won’t help much, even conquest gear is looking like it’s the same deal. I’m not here to complain about the state of PvP but I want to know… is healing even fun right now? 30% mana regeneration gone means even when I do manage to keep healing through the damage I can’t really do it for very long. I don’t remember ever being this squishy as a plate wearing healer with an immunity bubble. In 2s I remember double DPS basically being a free win, now it’s 50/50, possibly even less.

It just kinda sucks because Hpally is my favorite class, I know it better than anything else and it feels natural to play since it’s been my main pretty much since Cata but I can’t rememember ever feeling so useless in PvP, it’s not fun lol. I’m thinking of just rerolling a fury warrior and learning that but man… I love hpally healing lol. Are healers really so powerless right now or is it mostly just my rusty self?

Pally is very good atm , its just this season you need to trade early , very explosive

yes but the explosive is so insane that i bubble, maybe live, then they get me in 2 minutes when their CDs are back up. Can’t really try to run from rogues and fury warriors because they can lock me down so well and after both freedom charges are used it’s pretty much done.

Everybody gets blown up

People gotta die*

Your DPS can save you

Oh, and your teammates buttons are also important. It’s not a 1v1.

It’s difficult because I get trained each game and only really have HoJ. Druids and shaman’s have hex/cyclone which is a better CC chain. Repentence is difficult to use consitently when I can’t afford to cast it so no real point in speccing into that tbh. The big thing is druids have stealth too so they can wait and pop up while im being opened on, CC my dps and they just bring better CC utility in that department. Priests too with fear and mind control.

I know there’s obviously a player problem in the equation and I’m probably doing something wrong but when my DPS is being chain CCd and I can barely heal myself it’s rough. I prefer when they cc chain me honestly and focus my DPS. I go against so meany stealthers lately (rogues, hunters, druids, mages) that it’s pretty much just a game of waiting for them to open up on someone because we don’t know where they are.

Idk you can add my discord and clip your games, I’ll take a look at them for you and can tell u why you’re dying. A lot of times it’s really hard to tell because you die to a mistake 20-60 seconds later

I was playing with a mage last night and while they do have polymorph the issue I was running into is that I couldn’t run from the DPS or try to pillar hump because that broke my partners los. I was thinking in that case just train the other person or something right? I kept dying due to them not wanting me to lead the opponent out of their los

I think you need to get used to the new meta, where everything blows up lol
It doenst mean you gonna die rq all the time, it means you need to use your cds fasters (and only when the enemy is bursting. If you trinket/CD a simple stun, it’s a loss in the second one with burst).
You can’t overlap cds. If you trinket, just trinket and do your best to be alive. I remember in others exp. i used to Pain Supression only when my HP was getting low. Now I need to use it as soon as i know he is bursting (its the same with your bubbles, divine favor…).

And play lots of games, with a good partner, who wants to learn too. After some time, and some losses (lol), you gonna be used to this PvP and gonna pump.

good advice, thank you. I have been playing like that, with the bubbling when I’m low and such. I downloaded omnibar last night to keep track of enemy bursts so I’ll keep that in mind when using my bubble or trinket!

also get Mes weakauru it helps alot

You just need to keep playing and get better gear. You are jumping in near the end of the season and facing players who are already geared. Even so, you can find a geared DPS in LFG to carry you to 1600 with the gear you have. Healers have that privilege.

You should also review your talents, covenant and legendary choices since the meta has changed.

Yeah it is so important to watch out for your team mates this season, especially your healer.
Just played with some lfg demo lock/ele sham that didn’t feel like interrupting or stopping the 4th or 5th mind games rmp go on me then kicked me from the group for dying.

yes that is actually the game right now. You need to instantly trade/respond or you get globalled. DPS players will downplay it and tell you to git gud do not fall for their bait.

Yes the tools to live are there as shown by AWC players but I actually cannot imagine the suffering of someone trying to learn how to heal right now for the first time without a competent team.

Yes it is a dps focused meta. DPS need to peel, kite, trade in order to not take unhealable damage whereas in previous expansions you as a healer could keep people up by yourself with your own cds only while they just straight PVE’d. Also, DPS can easily solo kill people if they outplay. Not to say healers cannot make outplays but I definitely feel there is less carry potential as a healer this xpac vs dps, while there is more baseline individual responsibility.

Coming back from a dampenfest meta, shadowlands is a whole different game. It’s frustrating at first but IMO its a good season to play as a healer to learn coordination and fast paced gameplay. Honestly it is a lot more fun than double dh mana burn and sht like that

pillar + running far far away when they are DR’ing your dps… stall stall stall, know the bare minimum you need to trade w/ into w/e, and greed is still BiS; its just more dangerous now.

unless actively trading cds or ccs, you should be +40y away at all times

you only die if you just let them slam you in the middle of the arena and your team isn’t applying either pressure to force them defensive or dead or peels to waste their cds.

I took a look at your current gear, it looks to appear you are missing a lot of pvp items. Both pvp trinkets for the set is good and I recommend playing necro over kyr. I played kyr in s2 and beginning of s3 and got 2100 in the first week. Necro is just much better. Extra shield to help relief damage, and big healing every 30s paired with the darkness before the light (light of dawn talent might of spelled it wrong 20% every 5s). Plus hammer does pretty big dam too. 15-20k crits usually.

Go look up top player builds on murlok.io it will save you a lot of pain op. Holy Pali is built very different from your setup. Going necro will make you much tankier. It’s a weird covenant to play as healer but it’s solid and synergizes with holy pali tier gear.

That’s another big thing: pvp trinket bonus, tier set and conduits are all quite important. Systems on systems.

You have 9% vers and no pvp trinket bonus.

You’re a wet paper bag. Youve gotta work on conquest gear
