Name checks out.
Yes it was actually better for the simple reason that class design was drastically better than it is now.
Wod classes were only slightly pruned from the greatness that was MoP.
Class design didnt really start to crash until Legion when we needed a fully leveled artifact for our class to feel complete.
Completely false. Actually it had a far better endgame than BFA. Raids were better, Challenge Modes were amazing, and PvP was far better than what we have now. In BFA the endgame at the start of every tier is do world quests and island expeditions until your eyes start bleeding.
I liked WOD a lot, but I’m liking this one too. Really just do what you like and don’t be pressured to do what you don’t and you’ll enjoy every expansion.
I didn’t pvp at all in WoD and liked it. Doing gold challenge modes on 8 different toons and helping friends and members of the CM community get their gold’s was probably the most fun I’ve ever had playing WoW.
Uh Battlezone WoD did have have titanforge in it.
good god…it was worse at some point?
ok…you got me on that one.
wod had pvp vendors
bfa doesn’t
wod > bfa
Wait…what statements are you pretending I made?
It gets mentioned a lot because it’s one of the very few things that were good about that expansion.
It’s also difficult to mention anything positive about WoD because you immediately get hit with the “but the selfie patch!” or “no, there is no possible way anything can be worse than WoD” comments. Kinda feel like those are spent too.
Yes. This is not just you.
Primarily because classes didn’t rely on garbage AP rental “skills”.
I-I can’t even.
Tovi I will gladly have you speak for me.
Except on Baine. I know we don’t agree on him.
I mean.
As spent as the generic BFA complaints.
WoD PvP was better for sure. Last expansion to have gear vendors, allowing for pvpers to make some choices rather than the rng system holding our hands doing that for us.
There also wasn’t progression systems stacked on one another allowing us to feel done with our mains rather than trying to play catch up all the time.
But besides that, WoD wasn’t all that great either. To be honest, WoD Legion and BFA have been let down expansions. But that’s my opinion!
Imo the thing was WoD was like having 4 years of only vanilla pudding and panda pie, mind you, the chefs were steak chefs before and didn’t know how to make pudding, but they insisted upon it until they could make the best pudding they could ever make but the first taste was dreadful. Then a few months later, they declare they’re bringing steak back and a new lazy susan and sushi bar and fondue fountain, at a new premium price, 59.99$, You’re so excited to try it, and they’re making a movie too, you play it, the appetizers Ala questa mode are great, the leveling zones are supreme, and then they serve pathfinder ala mode. You scoff and people start leaving.
That isn’t what you ordered. Then they start running out of money, and start serving you shoes and start fishing behind a dumpster. Eventually they run out of ingredients to cook and leave you sitting there, with cold food for 8 hours, promised a 5 course raid meal and leaving with 1.5.
Until they skip straight from appetizers past the meal to dessert and it’s shoe with green food coloring lit on fire garbage with green vanilla pudding. WIth more vanilla pudding. Also it’s on fire and they try to sell you the selfie cam photo app for 3 hours and trivia.
Don’t get me wrong, WoD was extremely boring and dry to play, but that was because it had great starting content, just not enough of it. You logged in, did your raids once a week. Got your 4 bosses you needed to kill, then you just logged or did garrisons and one of every dungeon every week for valor points. Then you pvped maybe to gear up your pvp sets. (And pvp was good, pvp ilvl was good and made both gear worth it in both zones. ) It’s just that There just wasn’t anything to do. Except join hop groups (Which were actually pretty fun imo. Autojoin and hop was a great time for social lf rp and of all things you could routinely log in and see legitimate 7-27 man raids form for anything from adventure rps, cave rps, druid rps, death knight rps, grizzly hill rps. And that’s kinda how i ended up swapping back. I’d raid on my horde toon, hop into mg and at first yes, it was a throwaway in the middle of 4 months of boredom to check this ‘infamous’ inn everyone kept talking about, but the guilds back then were pretty fun too. I unlapsed from wow and didn’t want to pay for a drought, but i kept being interested in the game by setting up a rp toon with a f2p to f2p chat and seeing what went around and having fun. Plus, the gold you made from WOD covered the sub for years. So overall it wasn’t that bad, drought sure, there was nothing to do, you got half the stuff that was promised, but the tiny content was great.
Basically WOD is applebees, WoTLK was a steakhouse, Pandas was like a steakhouse deciding it would be a american trying to make their own reinterpretation of Panda express with hamburger buns and general tso hotdogs. A unappetizing concept but well executed. WoD’s first half, played from into to level wasn’t bad with the skip, it just came with a 6 hour drought and twice the menu price for half the content. But the dungeons and gameplay was good. They just lost half their playerbase making it and the WOD fiasco. Around the same time, Runescape was having corporate investors make the Evolution of combat disaster trying to each be the other mmo. Both correspondingly lost the main majority of their players from the patches.
But Old School runescape still maintains strong numbers by simply having players vote for and choose the polls. Even if it’s a little ridicolous with 75% approval to pass.
Class gameplay and PvP felt way better for sure. That, and there weren’t nearly as many systems stacked on top of each other like we’ve got now.
BfA has much better looking gear, at least Alliance side. I love the look of the warfront sets. A friend very aptly described the WoD gear as looking like your character when dumpster driving in Orgirmar.
I am also a fan of getting conquest from wpvp, and keep in mind here that I play exclusively alliance and war-mode always on. I like wPvP that much that I’m willing to stick with in when I’m outnumber 3:1 on average. Blizzard did a great job with the assaults and battle for Nazjatar IMO, and I’ve been having fun there. On the other hand, WoD had a PvP vendor, the current system is frustrating for gearing. Grr.
In WoD I had the freedom to play alts and had plenty of time to play the game my own way.
I did so much RP. I made so many alts and so much gold.
WoD had pretty good sets in the early raids, imo. The later sets which got recolored for PvP were pretty meh, including the recolor this priest is wearing.
I gotta say though, take a look at the WoD s1 elite sets if you think WoD sets were bad. Some of the best sets they’ve made IMO. The warrior one with the shoulders/helm that turn into blades and extend are awesome.
