Seriously. I’m not crying for the sake of it. I don’t usually have a lot of complaints. However, being killed by gathering and the level of complexity introduced into crafting really strikes me as poor design that will ultimately bring about some kind of reckoning later on.
Maybe I am wrong and most crafters/gatherers like these changes and feel it is more fun this way. I can’t agree with that personally at all but I do wonder if Blizzard took a poll in game to get feedback on reaction to this stuff what the results would be.
On a bright note, now I have more time to play my alts. I don’t need crafted gear playing them. I don’t need money to enjoy the filthy casual game. I will miss crafting and gathering though. It was fun in the past I thought overall. This to me is not, not even a little.

So far I like it, though I’m not very far into it yet. But for a long time now, leatherworking for me has been something I did the first week or two of the expansion & then basically ignored once I got to the level cap & started getting world quest gear that was better than anything I could make. I like that there might be a way to keep it relevant for longer; we’ll see how that works out in practice.

On elemental nodes, I can see an argument for their effects and related specs being kind of convoluted. That said, it’s not like an immense learning curve or anything and I appreciate that there are a few different flavors of dopamine hit I get to enjoy when I hover over the node on my mini-map. Related to that - it would be nice if elemental nodes had a modified icon on the map, so I didn’t have to hover over every single node I fly by, now that flying is so fast.
Normal production professions were in desperate need of a rework in my opinion. My only gripe so far, and a pretty major one, is the inability to undo profession spec points spent. The game showers you with the points early, but once you get to ~60 in production / max out gathering (might vary; speaking from mining/BS perspective), it feels like you stop getting points altogether. Personally, it was once I hit max level and had my professions leveled and points spent when I understood what it was I should be looking to craft.
Otherwise, I’m happy with the fact that they’re giving professions some love, hopefully they’re receptive about early feedback to iron out the main issues quickly.
I’ve enjoyed it thus far, crafting nice gear already for my warlock, and I hear matrixes drop in dungeons! I can craft my way to heaven. Just have to hope for haste buffs! Now if only I could get a Miner and Alchemist going soon!
I’m enjoying it so far. My only gripe is the fact that you can’t respec at all. I don’t want the ability to constantly respec, but maybe give an early on one-time respec while we’re short on knowledge.
I only say this because the system can be overwhelming and slightly unintuitive if you didn’t go out of your way to do a lot of research and some node choices I made at the time that I thought would be really helpful I later found out were incredibly limited by things like Spark of Ingenuity (1 per 2 week item). So I already feel as though I’ve completely screwed one of my professions and am behind a significant chunk of knowledge.
i like the new professions. ive tried them in the past and always gave up on them within 5 minutes because of how boring it was. now i have blacksmithing and leatherworking up almost as high as possible right now.
I love the new profession system. The complexity is a positive factor for me.

They show that the drop in the dungeon journal but I’ve run 10 or so of them and I’ve never seen one drop.

Must mean I gotta run a ton then XD
Wait til you break past 60 on a crafting skill that stalls because you need other players to use their ultra rare resources to have you work order them an item they haopefully can’t make themselves.
Might be better in a few months when SOI aren’t this rare but ATM, I’m not a fan.

I assume there will be more patterns coming in 10.1, just like the last few expansions.
I can’t speak for all of them but I know Alchemy is a frigging nightmare.
-
Need to do a costly experiment to unlock phials/potions
-
Need to do the same experiment to level because Blizzard just frigging forgot to give you any recipe that actually levels Alchemy over like 60 or so.
-
Aforementioned experiment has a stupidly high chance to explode and lock you out of doing it again for FOUR HOURS. Which means no new recipes or levelling up.
-
We have some nice phials to boost gathering… but for some genius reason, Blizzard made them BoP. And no one can be bothered using the work order system because of how poorly executed it is.
-
Our Alchemist Stone recipe is for this expansion is burred ridiculously deep in reputation levels. So by the time we get it, it is likely going to be completely outdated.
I actually like the new crafting system but I absolutely hate how dirty they did Alchemists this expansion.

Alchemy is awful. Like it’s so bad I’m regretting ever choosing it for my mage. I’m hoping the others aren’t this bad because I do not enjoy it at all. I have no recipes and now experimentation is off so I can’t learn or level more.

Bonus kick-in-the groin points: Experimentation is disabled still after the maintenance. My Alchemy is pretty much dead in the water for another day because there is literally nothing else I can make to level it up any.
i personally do NOT like the new professions i think its way over board. and i do not understand them its all confusing to me.Just saying

I’m sure I’d enjoy the new crafting… if I had any clue what I was doing. I don’t know if I missed something, but there’s basically no introduction to all the different new things, that eases players into this new system. I recall going to some traders outpost at Forkriver Crossing, but that to me was a waaaaaay too much of an info dump. I guess I’ll read a wowhead guide or something.
YouTuber Penguin2gt has an excellent series of three videos on beginning crafting the how the system works.
Very organized and scripted videos that cover every facet of professions and she makes some interesting suggestions.
Her other videos on each profession cover what specializations best fit different interests.
I spent a lot of time watching profession videos and hers are by far the best.
EDIT: She also has a video that covers what professions are best paired to reduce the rep grind for additional recipes.
e.g Profession X and Profession Y both have a lot of recipes available from a specific faction. Grinding rep for that faction can get you recipes for both professions.

I wasted 17 knowledge points total so far, got the hang of it now kinda.
I guess I wasn’t totally off with mixed responses but of course we’re a miniscule sample. I did read Blizzard’s own intro to the profession systems overall which just glosses over the main points from what I could tell.
Maybe my reaction is something of a knee-jerk thing but I always thought of professions as a fun and useful aside but I never personally wanted for them to become a major undertaking. I’m retired and not seeking employment you know? I don’t want to work in a game I play. I want to have fun the filthy casual way. So I know. Maybe I am out of step with most folks playing WoW these days. Although I do note above everything from some problems to some professions (Alchemy?) to complexity to just not liking this at all. So I would maintain that Blizzard has some serious work to do with these.
I could be wrong but I honestly don’t think this system is going to fly long term especially because buyers may largely reject any hassle in purchasing crafted gear and just say the hell with it. It’s not like the game doesn’t rain down gear from the heavens if you just play it you know?
To coin a phrase, ain’t nobody got time for this. It’s gated left and right. Call me a crybaby but nodes that kill me? Seriously? Is this an improvement in some way? If not then why is it in the game?
