Is it Lying?

Is it lying to play a female character, with a very female-gendered name, and act/be feminine, but be a man?

I ask because this is my situation. I’ve had people add me and when they realize I’m not a girl they promptly unadd me (which I guess is not a bad thing, bullet dodged). I don’t mean to “catfish.” I am genuinely just a feminine person. Even on my male characters I’ve gotten “are you a girl?” or “are you a gay boy?” The latter being slightly more accurate.

Anyways, what do you all think? Does this count as catfishing or nah? Is it bad?
Or are the people assuming things in the wrong?

I think play what you want however you want and anyone that can’t deal with it can pound sand.

I believe the technical term is role-playing.

I’m not a roleplayer tho. I don’t act feminine because my characters are female, I just am.

May have something to do with that immature name of yours, just sayin.

nah some people forgot it’s actually a rp game to you can rp however you want. why people have problems with it is beyond me. i just ignore people who always call me a him in 2022 cause my toon has revealing armor oh your one of them and then say your definitely a dude… i don’t give a crap what anyone plays or does in this game girl or guy. it’s still amusing people thinking oh a girl let me flirt with you.

Kinda weird of them to add you as a friend just because they thought you were a woman, anyway. I’d be fine with losing friends like that.

It’s only catfishing if you specifically claim to be a woman and lead somebody on.

I am a woman. I don’t care, it’s role playing as far as I’m concerned.

You don’t have to be a role player either, it’s your gender choice, a name you chose and it’s you behind the computer. The whole picture comes together as your character in the game. It’s what everybody sees and if somebody deletes you for finding out your not a blood elf female irl then they were looking for something inappropriate anyways probably.

Why would they add me in the first place if they had a problem with my name? Lmao.

This is what I was thinking, but the people who have unadded me might not feel the same way.

And if those people are that sensitive they aren’t worth knowing to begin with.

It’s not catfishing unless you actually lie to someone about yourself.

You can be as flamboyant as you want and if people take that as meaning you’re a woman and are only interested because of that, then that’s on them.

IMO it’s weird.

Who cares? Are you happy? Then do it. If you’re just natural feminine you’re doing you and that’s all that matters.

It’s not lying if you never stated or inferred anything regarding the matter. If they’re making assumptions, it’s entirely on them.

I play a female warlock because male warlocks just don’t look right. Not once in the 12 years of playing have I cared about the gender or orientation of the person I’ve played with. But that’s just me and everyone’s different I guess. Video games are video games and real life is real life.

If I was still an Undead I’d bring out my dead horse for this occasion.

I mean the truth of the matter is the ones adding you come off as desperate as they just wanna interact with you on the basis that your a girl. Kind of shallow to be honest, and it’s good that their being open about their intentions I guess. Nothing with wrong with you being you, I would just ignore them honestly and just do you.

Play whatever you want. It’s no one’s business who you are in real life.
