Is it just me, or

It is just you. Quit being soft as Charmin and you will find that game is not toxic at all. Some people dont lilke their time wasted by unaware people. Example; I had a tank in NW constantly turn the adds that do frontal around at the end of the frontal cast. That killed me 5 separate times. What am i to do? I attack the enemies from behind, all for my tank to wipe me from existance. Is it toxic to leave that group? NO, not at all.

I think there’s some credence to the inference that because hyperbolic shock value media has increased more and more over the years, people are more confrontational. Maybe it’s an election thing where people just get drowned in faction opinions, but yea it’s impossible to know for sure. An echo chamber can make it appear like more people are like this than not.

The devs have actively courted competitive players with many of the systems in the game. WoW has become like the League of Legends MMO now.

The other MMOs I play, Lotro and ESO have way better communities.

Pure recency bias.

I don’t think it’s more toxic. I think people have become more sensitive to toxicity.

People became extra rude to one another after the fake pandemic.

If you think this is toxic, just wait for trade chat in November.

Absolutely. Every one playing this game is wasting their time, so stop pretending like you’re using yours productively.

From my observations, it hasn’t changed much in terms of quantity.

I think the ratio of helpful vs. toxic folks in chat/forums has shifted significantly. Most of the helpful folks (myself included) have probably just grown tired of all the crap so we just ignore everything at this point and focus exclusively on our own direct enjoyment of the game - be that by ourselves or with friends.

*Edit: and randomly pop in to provide input on a Sunday AM just to see what happens

When you’re angry and frustrated, that’s when you make more mistakes; more often than not, trying to play through it only compounds the issue.

And that anger and frustration can spread to others. I’ve seen it far too often in group content that one person being negative about something causes the rest of the group to also have negative thoughts which leads to everyone playing worse and to no one having fun.

Low morale leads to poor performance and raising it is tough, so it’s best to avoid contributing to it falling in the first place.

Heh not really the players that just say wild crazy stuff don’t speak anymore and formed their own quiet communities to continue goofing around. Those extremely bad things you all probably think is worthy of being banned for life over are still going on. For some the internet and social groups are a place to blow steam in and vent in their off times.

In my view this is just the fun part of competitive pvp and its emotional roller coaster. The wild ups and downs and then getting it together to kick some booty.

It’s not new, it’s just people are more sensitive nowadays.

It’s always been this way, just more people on social media now and websites for WoW have become more mainstream.

If you weren’t around for the inclusion of achievements, the whole “link achieve” back in early WoW or the coming of the GS mod which eventually was made by Blizz in game. WoW has basically been a Tinder like site for a long time. You see GS and linked achieves, now swipe left or right. People spam incessantly “insert class and GS LFG” just hoping, please pick me.

It has at the same time made life easier /faster and harder, and also toxic. Toxic can also be described in different ways.

Competitive games will always have a toxic nature be it through trash talk or through just general ways players can use in game things to harrass players, oh you didn’t kill hardmode Ulduar, you must be a terrible player, to just seeing people called human trash in BGs. Toxicity is in many forms but outside the playerbase, Blizzard is probably the most at fault for fostering that type of environment.

But the easiest way to avoid it, join a guild find a community, don’t pug and ignore chat.

Go play those then.

This is the product they created, by allowing boosting, weak auras, scripts, etc that play the game for you. Players get an ego boost and think they’re better than others. M+ has become just as bad as the PVP community—inflated egos from FOTM classes.

I agree mostly, players can feel obligated to roll fotm so they can do content. They didn’t choose the meta or the spec they like. Boosting has been around as long as gold sellers have, there are people who will always find the quickest way to get the dopamine hit, and for some that’s just buying gold to buy boosts, Blizz just pushes that now with the token.

Toxic as in being insufferable, nosey, and elitist?

Nah, it’s been that way for years sweetie.

Also this, Blizzard created a culture of these so call “elite” players that their personality ended up being garbage or was fully amplified from having a garbage personality in the first place because they love the “competitive” nature of the game.

Back in Vanilla and TBC and tbh, Wrath, I barely interacted with anyone outside my own guild, especially in TBC when I was the officer of one.

I’ve gone back to this with TWW. I basically don’t want to interact with people outside my guild if I don’t have to. Main reason I haven’t done a single key yet.
