These are just some of the names of characters I’ve seen today (although referring to them as names is a stretch because they’re not names; they’re statements!)
Just ugh.
It really detracts somewhat from the enjoyment of the game seeing characters like that running around.
Immersion has died down
in bc/wrath people actually “Were” their character
you had a name, a guild, a reputation, whatever
at the end of the day you built towards a progression
now its just like… go out there and do stuff.
In all seriousness though, I can work around it too, it’s just incredibly irritating, and you never quite get the name you really want most cases. WoW has needed surnames for years.
I wish Blizzard would add the last name convention and we could get rid of the strangling name situation that has existed in the game since launch. Doing the AB comp stomp brawl shows that last names are possible for characters…why they aren’t in game i have no idea.
As your own name shows there is more than one Kazar but i wonder how many people have had a problem with using the special characters in your name over time. Put in a last name convention whether it is a system like Swtor (something i wouldn’t mind seeing) or something simple so there can be more than 1 Kazar or Motors per server would help fix this problem and over time there would be a lot fewer Istabudie type of names out there.
That, or alternatively Blizzard could do what other MMORPGs have done and tie your character’s name to your account name but only display the character name.
That way you could have whatever name you wanted, regardless of whether someone else already has it. You wouldn’t need to use special characters either!
The last names I have used are Angwynn, Horborg, Rethel, Falstaff, Navvie, Xorsha, Castagir and Mjölnir. I will take care creating names because I’m going to be reading them for quite a while.
But you’re quite right, OP, there have been some pretty loopy player names in-game.
A good source for names I have found recently are character names from older Doctor Who episodes. Looking more at 2nd-4th Doctor episodes (1966-1980)
