Except some people are like that, and their version of “You’re welcome” does mean that.
and his is why you should say GG
If you mean, your character, they don’t do anything. You do, because they aren’t a person and don’t really exist. Hearing someone talk about their character as if they were alive is so beyond cringe.
You’re welcome is a basic rule of politeness, and it signals that the person accepts the expression of gratitude—or that they were happy to help.
It’s an interesting question, and I see where you’re coming from.
For me, it’s all about context. If the person was pleasant to group with (regardless of performance), then I’ll accept a “you’re welcome” as a polite response. After all, I just thanked them and it’s a normal response. Even if they topped the charts, there’s no reason to think it was meant maliciously.
On the other hand, if they were a pain to group with. Rushing ahead, berating the group, shaming other members for their performance, etc… Then I’ll assume it’s some sort of passive-aggressive jab. But by then, I’m done with them anyways, just roll my eyes, and forget who they even were 5 seconds after we part ways.
Personally, I always just thank the group after the run. I avoid “you’re welcome” because I don’t want to come across the wrong way.
Idk but this totally changes my reading of the film Moana
I just say thanks to everyone. I mean, we all did the dungeon together. I wouldn’t have been able to heal with no group just like you wouldn’t be able to tank a dungeon if you had no group to help you.
It’s all in the way you say things.
If I had someone who didn’t say anything a whole run and then said “you’re welcome” it would kinda irk me a little bit as it almost implied that they had carried me.
There’s never been any sort of incentive for players to be kind or polite during group content in WoW.
I probably should have phrased that as, “on my druid”, but no I don’t make a habit of speaking of characters like that lol. I don’t RP in wow =p.
I always say “Thanks for the run yall” unless I actually did carry the team which thankfully, is less than 10% of the time… Then I just leave the group as soon as I open my chest…
But when doing dungeons leveling up new toons, I never just leave even if the group was bad, Ill always say thanks for the group. Even if the only messages sent by anyone in the group are my “Heyall” at the start and my “Thanks for the run yall” at the end.
You’re welcome is the socially acceptable response to thank you in western culture. I’m sorry that no one informed you of this.
It’s not always the case though. Being polite is not always about following a set of rules. When those rules stop making sense you must adapt. Saying “you’re welcome” when you have done the same work and got the same reward is, like Boodock said, a breach of etiquette.
And yes, it’s so out of place that some people will think you’re being sarcastic. In this day and age it’s not so far fetched to think so. Sarcasm is everywhere now.
Most of the time, I just say “gg, good run” and that’s that.
I am just floored…I intend to say “you’re welcome” each time someone says, “thank you”
if they say, “thanks” ill just respond with, “Yus Welcomes”
if they say, “GG” ill just say, “Thank you.”
the fact that this is even a discussion has gotten me on the floor in screams of laughter. What is wrong with some of you.
