Hi, Nasuuna here, asking the big questions -
It’s ok to post on an alt if you don’t want to get gkicked. It’s time we had this discussion and figured out if being inebriated during a progression raid fight is a cardinal WoW sin or not.
Also just like looking at a potential romantic partner “better” is subjective and it might just be the substance talking.

nah dude, it’s cool
just don’t blame mistakes on you being drunk, in fact, don’t talk about being drunk at all. it feels like people who drink really want you to know that they do in fact, drink alcohol

I swear, you come up with the weirdest stuff…

You’re an adult (I assume)
Unless your intoxication is a detriment, nobody’s going to tell you no.

Unless you’re the sort of person who thinks drinking is immoral to begin with, no? But then again most of my guild team is drinking or smoking something on raid nights and we’re far from the hardest of core. We just raid to have some fun, and what do you do when you’re having fun with some buddies? Have a beer.

I used to tank for a fury warrior who often played blind drunk. He had impulse control issues (like that time he trained a pack of mobs into the clean room in Gnomeregan for the lulz) but I suppose he played OK besides that.
He was dating (and later married) the GM’s niece. The GM was also my brother. You make allowances for family, you know?
Oh no, I don’t find it immoral. I like to drink whiskey and wine. But when I drink whiskey I add a lot of syrup and make really sweet old fashions.
It always strikes me as odd when 30 somethings in my guild want to talk about being high or drunk… this isnt high school, im not your father or grad school teacher i dont care what you do just don’t die and do your job.

If it’s a DPS net gain… then you should get G kicked for not doing this therefore.

No, you’re good. I wasn’t saying you in particular. Just “you” as someone in general who might. Just found the wording of the question a bit odd I guess.
I was running Kara with my guild, I was hammered, we had just started and were clearing the stables out and I kept passing out half asleep and running into trash causing the raid to wipe.
I did this twice before excusing myself and heading for bed.
I caught hell the next day but we were all good friends and it was rare for me to drink and they knew this, so it was all in fun.
Our guild was like that though, we’d been at Gruuls the week before and had to get the daughter of our healer, who happened to be also playing, to go log her Mom out who had passed out drunk in the bathroom so we could get another healer in.
Good times!
/cheers

My progression heroic raid back in dragon soul at the end of cata(10man group) had a shadow priest who was terrible at the game unless he was high as a kite on mary-jane. At first we were upset with him for being high during raid but when he was sober he was god awful.
Soooo we encouraged him to go back to it and cleared the raid on a weekly basis for mount farms without issue from him. Strange things.

I’m not thinking straight, why did I have that wine cooler last month?

It should be mandatory! Tanks tank better when buzzed, this is proven fact (That mob’s lookin at you funny), Healers are MUCH more relaxed (Eh, its only a little fire), and DPS… well you can’t tell any difference!
My jokes aside, it was a guild rule i had to have a few drinks before raid when i was a MT… made me relax more and that helped with situational awareness and talking more on vent… how this was discovered however is a story for another time.
It depends, even if you perform better a lot of people can be highly aggressive, horny, talkative, etc… while inebriated and that can cause you to create distractions and problems in the guild that ultimately hurt the raid team.
Drinks are for parties IMO.

I always healed better after a beer. I didn’t care as much when they blamed me for stuff.

I don’t care if you’re drunk or not, but honestly just learn how to play well in the first place. If you flailing about while drunk manages to do better than what you THINK is right, you’re missing something.

It is a game, you are one of the anonymous individuals that can do as you wish at your own time without public shame,
How you “act” out on others still defines you all the same as bad sport & bad character. A designated raid isn’t easy to come by, and most people desire good results, and if you’re one that wishes to mess that up well…good job? What was the point of it?
