Is it easy to level a Rogue?

I’m wondering how long it takes to level and if it is easy or not

not really, you wear leather and are a melee class, only benefit is you can stealth through area’s and skip mobs

I leveled a rogue as combat in classic it’s not bad at all.

You can open with cheap shot and do a lot of damage to a target before they can fight back, resulting in you taking minimal damage per fight. Fighting multiples can be a problem until you get blade flurry, but with stealth and sap you can often fight soloes easier than most classes.

It’s not as easy as hunters, locks or mages, but it’s easier than the other melee classes.

Rogues are the 2nd slowest class to level, ahead of Warriors

rogue is pretty easy to levvel. as Ponkster said, go combat. main gear priority should be a high dps mainhand then stacking as much +hit as you can get(which will be rare)

it’s not too bad, I’ll tell you…they have some of the more entertaining class quests.

This.
Play smart, play COMBAT for leveling, it’s not hard, just not easy like a pet-class

I digress. Rogues aren’t that hard to level. I have done it a few times in tbc and to 40ish in vanilla

I, personally, didn’t feel they were terribly challenging to level. I will note, however, my baseline was Druid from 2004/2005 before /many/ class improvements were implemented. Comparatively, it was delightful! Weapons are very important, though.

its not the worst to level up, more middle of the pack.

Once you get used to the techniques to use, then leveling becomes easier. Also remember that many use specialties for leveling that don’t work well (i.e. are top of the line DPS) in raids. That raid build, though, doesn’t work well for leveling.

Also picking the best poisons helps as well since that is where your self heals are located.

One of the fastest alongside warrior. Don’t let them tell they aren’t. You just have to be creative and think like a rogue. The fastest class to level in classic, correction; the fastest class leveled DURING classic was a Warrior and there was one key reason why. A rogue can and would surpass that. -You just don’t go killing everything you see, and if you think long and hard about the class, you may discover something few of us did way back in the day.

Very easy class to level. Not super fast because by definition you are a sneaky dude/ette picking your fights.

It’s fine, level one if that is your jam.

This is nonsense.

I mained a rogue through all vanilla raid content and rogue was definitely near the bottom of the pack for leveling even when leveling as combat. People who say this didn’t level other classes beyond a certain point – guaranteed. Has nothing to do with “thinking like a rogue” – there’s advantages like being able to sneak around stuff to get from point a to point b, but a planned out leveling run with almost every other class would easily be faster. Every other class outside of Warrior either has higher sustain or pets to take aggro and in vanilla rogues have to rely heavily on first aid and food.

Pick lock, poison quests, etc. also take away from leveling time.

Not saying this to discourage leveling a rogue as they are a blast overall to play, but the leveling speed is NOT really competitive with most.

They are pretty slow, not hard.

Poison quest, and picklock will take away from your leveling time.

Level as combat

you’ll find it hard to die but you’ll also level very slowly, being the 2nd or 3rd slowest class to 60 depending on who you ask.
absolutely recommend you level as combat, pickup first aid, and of course carry food at all times.

Their speed concerns are kind of overblown.

  1. biggest mistake is people trying to go off meta for leveling… just hop on down the combat tree for combat swords and they’re pretty underrated. It’s the people that try and level daggers (which are much harder to find itemization for, and much less efficient in solo pve via relying on gouge to set up stabs or sinister spamming with a relatively fast weapon), or that try and level as sub (which has a number of talents that aren’t direct damage increases in the way, and generally needs gear scaling you wont have while leveling)

  2. second largest mistake rogues tend to make is simply using stealth too much… It’s really not that huge a benefit to you while leveling before you get cheapshot, and you waste a ton of time slowing yourself down. After you get more tools (like cheapshot), and better ranks of stealth that move faster, the spell starts getting more and more useful… but if you’re really wasting time trying to sneak up on a plainstrider in the barrens, you’re just kind of slowing yourself down.

  3. Third largest mistake I see many rogues making is not acknowledging how much of their output is weapon based. Kind of like warriors, you really benefit from better weapons more than most classes… There’s a number of lists you can find online but my personal list for horde is:

~18-20 Wingblade from Wailing caverns

~mid-late 20s Outlaw Sabre from BFD quest

~by level 40 you can do 3 wings of SM and RFD for Sword of Omen and Vanquisher’s Sword via quest

~mid 40s You can find an upgrade doing ZF runs but

-Late 40s you can get Thrash blade from Mara… (and inventor’s focal sword if you get lucky with casters not needing) The two of which can easily last you until 55+ BRD or 57+ Strat/Scholo/LBRS/UBRS… or just take you to 60 outright.

It depends on what your definition of easy is.

It’s no pet class, but easy enough as long as you talent correctly (combat.) Multiple escape tools and stealth to skip mobs, but you’ll have food downtime like most melee.

It’s easier in the sense that you can avoid some of the PvP interactions and sneak into heavily mob packed places. Only classes that have it easier are Hunters and Locks

You level one mob and one death at a time.
