Is horde side worse than alliance side? Or is it the entire community?

I didn’t know the mechanics in an LFR fight. (Whoever the torture guy is with spikes coming out of the ground) but I generally tank and usually in LFR it’s what I always thought of as a training ground to learn, but when I went in everyone was picking on me. Saying I was wasting their time :frowning: the other tank was on tichondrius though so I think that’s part of it. They are known for being meanies. After they started everyone else chipped in. I had a mythic / heroic mount from a previous expansion and everyone was asking me how I even got them if I was as dumb as I was… I felt so bad that it just made me never want to tank again… out of all the places that broke me down it was an LFR RAID! maybe I’m just getting too old for this stuff. Is the other side (alliance) nicer or is this just a general issue in the game that I can’t get past? Before I get a bunch of comments saying I’m not very thick skinned I’m aware…. I don’t want to have to be thick skinned to enjoy a game… that’s why I stopped high end raiding… because I wasn’t enjoying the game enough.

This is called the internet in general; people are mean doesn’t matter what side or game or platform you’re on…humans are not nice things

I’ve found the Alliance to be vastly more welcoming than the Horde.

In fact it was a guild on Moonguard that help finance one of my alts that kept me playing BFA by doing pet battles and mini events.

I think they’ve since moved on some time ago.

This is basically the WoW community experience.
I’ve heard the alliance is nicer than the horde, but that’s entirely hearsay.

Different communities like FF14 are notoriously nice and positive and I can confirm in my experience with both that this is 100% the case, though your experience might vary. It’s community awards are completely deserved IMO.

Tanks are extremely in demand in WoW, because largely there is no motivation to do so, and LOTS of community reinforcement not to. I’ve been there and I can completely sympathize with your experience. The expectation is that you’ll spend hours before doing the content, even LFR content watching the videos, reading the guides, and plotting out routes.

Now that’s not EVERY player’s expectation. There are quite a few sane and polite people out there, but for me it’s the ones that tell me they hope my mother dies of cancer because I didn’t do the route they do that stick with you.

Yep I’ve played final fantasy and have to say I agree with everything you have said. It just really sucks to see a game you like so much get killed by it’s own community…@vincent

Freelance tanking is brutal, thankless work in WoW.

Yeah, IDK how much of this is rose tinted goggles of nostalgia, but things were definately better back in the WOTLK/TBC days. Even as recently as BFA I had a good experience doing M+ pugs.

I think the introduction of prideful, where everything had to be perfect and completely lined up for buffs to coincide with bosses with special routes, that tank perfection became the expectation.

That’s probably not the entire reason though. Cross realms made anonymity and unaccountability huge factors of the game. Where as in “old” WoW you had a reputation on your server and treating people like crap had consequences, cross realm changed your play group from a few hundred to a few thousand-ish players (based on server) doing the same kind of content you do during your play time to a completely ridiculous amount.

With that high of a population you can kick someone, drop group, etc… and you’ll most likely never see or hear of that person again. Your efficiency becomes more important than your interactions with the other person, and so… here we are.

Now compare that to FF14. I get commendations for tanking. I get “Thank you for tanking for us!” whispers. I get special mounts for tanking. I get real tangible benefits for doing it that make my brain feel good, and if I don’t know a mechanic or mess up really bad the party will explain it to you. If it’s your first time doing something the party gets a benefit in tomestones, XP, etc… whatever they are doing the instance for.

This is getting pretty long, but I think I made my points clear.
Good luck with tanking, and my best advice would be to get a static group together in WoW that wants to learn the content with you.

I got toons over on Moonguard because that’s where most of my friends are and sadly it is one of the most toxic realms now that I have ever seen. Quite a lot of IC and OOC(for rpers) bullying and drama. Would never recommend the realm to anyone these days. :frowning:

I’ve played both factions competitively and casually for over 10 years now and it’s pretty much the same everywhere, with a few realms and groups being more vocal than others.
I’d definitely suggest trying to add people that you think have been friendly and enjoyable to pug with if they are ok with it to have a mini network of players you can group with!

I currently don’t have any characters that are as geared as my alliance side toons but if you’re up for it you can dm this toon in game and I can give you my btag to help out the best I can. I am working on catching up with the horde toons but I also know a lot of friendly and experienced players who are always looking to make new friends and they won’t be rude like that. LFR can be pretty brutal tbh, it is a hit or miss depending on the day.

I’d be willing to give it a shot! I really do feel like I’m at the tipping point now though.

I don’t think it is an either or proposition. I have had good and bad groups on either side for various reasons.

???

I play both and it’s all the same everywhere. It’s just people on the internet and the game doesn’t make enough of a difference lol

I hate seeing this because I also play both and it certainly is not the same at all.

Turn off chat, i got all afternoon to wipe here

It might be slightly worse because most of the ultra competitive players have transferred to Horde over time.

But you’ve also gotta realize that the content you’re talking about has been open in LFR since July. People, especially in WoW, tend to get a whole lot less lenient to strangers once its been long enough for them to feel that “everyone should know this by now”.

The new/returning player experience is one of the worst in this game. I want to blame the seasonality and go go go mentality of the game for that but god knows the actual reason. But people in lower content just want to get through everything and expect everyone to be experienced already. It sucks and ruins it for everyone. At least one of the reasons why FF is doing so well is because the community there is much friendleir to newcomers, 100% better compare to WoW.

Sorry you had this experience.

If you’re ever unsure on what to do correctly for any mechanics that you can’t really find in the dungeon journal (adventure’s guide in bottom right corner of the screen).

Just ask the group about them. Imo it’s a very bad idea for a player to rush into an LFR boss fight without knowing what to do all because they were too afraid to ask for help or directions on certain mechanics.

There’s always that chance of someone nice in the group willing to help by explaining it. Always make sure both tanks are on the same page before starting an LFR boss.

It should go a lot smoother as long as there aren’t any toxic players in the group.

I always like to recommend watching boss videos as well before going into something new because it can help a lot getting a visual of what things should look like and where you should stand, especially as a tank. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I actually did ask everyone before each fight to explain mechs because it was my first time. The other tank was a Paladin and he always rushed in and yelled at me when he died.
