Is Holy S tier simply because of Ashen Hollow?

Since the damage nerf, is it safe to say that Holy is S tier simply because of Ashen Hollow? I did the new mega dungeon yesterday and I was crying on some of the fights due to the lack of HoT and AoE healing. I can’t even imagine what the last boss is gonna be like in high mythic + keys.

Is your gear too low?

yeah this toon is undergeared, I only wiped twice on the last boss because I needed to learn the fight and time my cooldowns properly but overall I think it’s gonna be a though fight when you start throwing affixes like tyrannical in there.

That dungeon needs tuning for m+ to begin with because a lot of fights provide really strong innate advantages to certain classes as is (any class with blinks and immunities can cheese so many of the mechs). As for Holy being S tier, Ashen Hollow plays a big part in that in m+ anyway because it is burst in demand without really affecting any of the rest of paly play but so to does the fact that paladin healers are the only healer with an immunity (as well as an ability to physically immune other players). What gets lost is one wings usage for healing which you instead put into burst damage instead. What gets gained is less boss/mob uptime which means less cds needed across the fight. If you are struggling I would highly recommend going Beacon of Faith if you haven’t already. With the changes to the way infusion works it’s much easier to cap holy power while doing effective healing with an infused HL on one of your beacon targets. You can then ofc throw your WoG on the lowest health non beacon target effectively healing 3 people with one instant cast spell. If this doesn’t feel enough there is always beacon of virtue.

Never underestimate the value of burst on demand or on demand immunities though. These tend to be far more valuable than throughput the higher you go. As a cherry on top we also get a 20% mitigation cd which is tank equivalent mitigation and heavier armor values just for having a shield.

I’m still pretty new on hpal, I was able to heal Tazzavesh yesterday with 201ilvl, I just don’t have that panic AoE heal button and that’s what I’m struggling with. Maybe it’s just a matter of gear.

I wouldn’t say 229 is undergeared… as I did tasavesh with my 215 ilvl holy priest. I do think hpal can struggle in aoe healing if everyone is not stacked up. Hopefully we get a hot spell in the future. Were you doing hard mode?

I was 201 ilvl the day Tazavesh was released, this post is out of date.

Is the spec you’re currently in the spec you ran the dungeon in? Not looking at gear (heads up, you’ve got both holy and ret/prot trinkets equipped atm) since you said it’s out of date, but if that’s the spec you were running you should probably swap DP for HA. Venthyr HPal can struggle due to lack of a quick, simple CD like our Kyrian friends have in DT. DP procs are unreliable; HA gives you another CD for rough parts and also will nearly always proc wings pretty quickly with Awakening. If you run Mad Paragon you can then extend these wings. (Though if you’re struggling with healing I think Shock Barrier’s a fine choice.)

Judging by your most recent M+ runs you are running dungeons in a more raid-oriented build. Drop Enkindled Spirit, you aren’t going to be able to reliably hit enough targets with LoD to get good value. You’ll likely get more survivability out of Shielding Words than Divine Call since you’re going to be WoGing so much in 5 mans.

Without logs available I can’t tell for certain, but odds are you’re trying to heal a 5 man like it’s a raid with fewer people, which is not something we can really do. Switch from LoD to WoG in most instances, make sure you’re spreading your shocks so you get SB bubbles on everyone, use HA to get an extra CD (though given you’re not on a timer you can probably just wait for ashen at all times? Guess it depends on group patience!), and make sure to use your toolkit beyond just healing. BoP mechanics off of people, Sac people during big single target damage, DS yourself if you need to stand in crap and heal without stress, aura mastery groupwide damage bursts, freedom people to help them not stand in stuff, be sure you’re cleansing things you can, etc. etc.
