how do you all feel right now this deep into SL? is your class really as gutted as people predicted it would be?

It’s not good . No defenses and not a good burst .Unless you are a god level player, the only PvP it is kinda decent in is RBG’s where you can stick close to healers / hide in the crowd and hope you don’t get focused.
Vengeance is pretty good though so you may want to spec that.

Tbf, most posts on the WoW forums complain that their class is trash tier if they aren’t head and shoulders above everything else and/or meta.
That said, havoc could use a little lovin’.
Complaints yeah, but you can look at the rankings with a lack of DH and see previously ranked 1 players having trouble making 2.8k.
You look at warcraft logs and see we are bottom to middle of the pack for raiding PvE.
These are more objective measures, you can also notice while other classes that are currently meta complain there are no where near as many as DH .
*especially since DH population is lowest of any class at 5%

of that 5% 4.99% is all VDH the rest are like me who is just keeping the HDH and playing other class hoping for a buff before SL ends which most likely won’t happen.

If they never touched our damage again, I can accept that. What I can’t accept is how soft we are now. Can die to a random rogue in a cheap shot with no cds popped. Arms war or ret can just blow you over without worry of repercussions.
I think if we are to blow up so quick our damage should be buffed to be a real glass cannon. Or revert the blur change and give us back some leech.
I honestly don’t foresee DH ever being the power houses we were in BFA but we shouldn’t just be trash tier in both pvp and pve

I just picked up DH this xpac for arena. I played resto druid at 2400 CR in s4 BFA, which wasn’t easy to get in that disgusting gushing wounds anti-rdruid meta, but I did it.
But DH is my new main for SL. I just hit 1600 last night in 3s, after maybe 250 games played? And my 2s is about 1550cr max, again with 250 games played approx.
I feel this is too many games for the rating I’m at. I understand I’m new to DH, new to melee and new to dps in arena, so there is an expected learning curve.
But it feels like such an uphill battle - DH is so soft and weak now - they removed leech and dodge from DH, which was the keystone of it’s playstyle and design. And they didn’t replace it with anything, they didnt retune our abilities to compensate, they just… simply removed all healing and dodge.
We can’t peel our partners anymore either; our oppressive damage and survivability are what allowed us to peel for our arena partners in BFA. But survivability and damage are both gone; often teams will just ignore you and train your partner.
Sure, soul rending remains but that healing is extremely minimal in rated pvp, must be super nerfed or something. But you don’t take it anyway - you need netherwalk if you want to survive.
Also the darkness legendary is MANDATORY for arena. Youre going to need this for pvp.
What we do have going for us, is nice burst every 30 seconds: stun -> eyebeam > glaive tempest > blade dance > pump chaos strike every 30 seconds is a huge burst, and often will force cds on it’s own.
Seems like with the removal of leech and dodge, DH skill floor has increased - you cannot face tank ANYTHING anymore. It’s about your 30s burst window, then kiting away with your insane mobility and going back in again, rinse and repeat.
People who are used to facetanking in pvp are probably having a very difficult time adjusting to the new SL DH. But it is possible to see success.
Not sure if this helps you or not, as it’s just anecdotal experience from me. But I consider my self a relatively good pvper, probably middle of the pack, and it’s a big struggle for but still seeing some success. It’s also hard to judge where DH stands defensively atm with SO many overtuned damage specs existing (cough ww arms ret fire et al.) BUT I’m making it work so far, and there are R1 players on DH who are making it work as well. I recommend following Trenacetate on twitch (r1 eu dh) - he has great instructional videos, plays tons of 2s and 3s, and calls his decisions out, what he’s doing when and why, how to make plays and gos, what to watch out for etc. His stream is helping me out a lot.
So there is hope!
Most important though - start playing voice-chat ONLY 2s and 3s, and find some people to play with regularly. That’s what I started doing and it’s helping me climb the ladder.

Want to be better in PvP play a pally, good burst and WoG did get a nerf but still is OP. Or go bommy and pick night fae even though is getting nerf today still it will be OP.
HDH is nothing in BG and arena they could ingore all we do since we hit worse than a wet noodle and just go straight for healers and ingore us.

They pretty much need to revert us back to what we were before the major nerfs with slight tuning and we will be what a Demon Hunter is supposed to be. Right now we are the Glass Cannon Without the Cannon, maybe cotton balls we shoot out LOL. Havoc is completely useless now. My Level 50 Ret has more burst than my Havoc, even my gimped warlock has more burst and survivability. For Havoc being a Hero Class I see nothing Heroic about Havoc, how can any developer think this class is ok? Havoc has to be the squishiest class out of them all. Time to protest with the wallet

We do still have burst. Eye beam to glaive to blade dance with The Hunt can still one shot people. I do it all the time. Meta with full fury and burst ready is still very scary, and people who don’t respect it get one-tapped. BUT you need The Hunt to make our damage viable, which is another glaring red flag as to how bad our current design is.
What we DONT have survivability or healing anymore. That’s the issue. And most DH players have only known the facetank-raidboss version of DH, which is NOT what we are anymore. You need to learn to kite, and kite well. What we do have still, is unmatched mobility. DH has the best mobility in the game - you need to develop this skillset.
This doesn’t make up for the glaring shortcomings in our sustainability or defense. BUT it still makes DH playable. Just need to change your mindset.
And honestly… one-tapping OP classes with the EyeBeam/GlaiveTempest/BladeDance/TheHunt wombocombo fells amazing. Switch to Night Fae asap.

Solid couple posts Andro. I have to say I agree with all that. DH definitely has some great burst when you line up meta, GT, hunt, but like you said we are SO soft its unreal. Using mobility is our only option. I loved the way we used to play (as designed imo) being pretty tanky. Sure we were overtuned but leech playstyle was a cool unique thing to DH. They could’ve just reduced it a bit and we’d be leagues better than rn.
My favorite thing you said was how they removed all of our leech/dodge and didn’t replace it with anything. We just got absolutely gutted and left for dead.
DHs are literally the worst class in arena, every class has a much better pvp / arena spec the DHs have… some have 2-3 better specs then DHs

Yeah it’s pretty rough. Even the R1s like mvqdh and tren, despite being r1s, are the first to say we are absolutely dogpoop right now.
But - THE CLASS IS SO MUCH FUN. Double jump? Glide? Ninjaing around everywhere? It turns wow in to an action rpg, and for someone who has played this game for years and is bored of other classes, it’s a refreshing take on the game and it’s breathing new fun and life in to wow for me.

LOL you’re 100% right on that too. Its the main reason I’m still playing DH. Its honestly really really fun. Even makes standing around Orbos a blast. Double jump + glide is probably THE coolest thing in wow. You can cheese so much with it.
They removed leech? Wow thats bad. I played DH for BFA season 1 . It was fun . Now I play DK / Rogue . I do alot of pvp and I feel like leveling up my DH up to 60.
I’m having fun, just gotta kite and use The Hunt as an execute. Our utilities aren’t great like other classes though. Peeling for our teammates is hard.
really appreciate all the posts, this coupled with some videos and introspective from others has prevented me from mistakenly leveling my dh to 60. right now I’m going to level my hunter.
