Is flagging posts that aren't actually rule breaking a bad system?

Forum posts calling for discussion about in-game mechanics and other game related things that may not be the popular opinion seem to get flagged by the forum users.

What good is a forum if people are constantly silencing each other?

it a good thing, u need more than 1 person to get it taken down but guess what if multiple ppl think ur post should be gone they might be right

Yes it’s a bad system, its for kids and not for adults.

Yes it is and it is against the forum code of conduct for creating false alarms. However, the rules are cherry picked to what gets enforced, so likely nobody will do anything about it.

Now, if Blizzard made it so that you could see who flagged you, I’m sure it would change.

It depends. There are certain parts of the community who will flag at the drop of a hat. Like if you tell people irl that oi doesn’t mean S*** in real life they will flag you. True story about 30 min ago.

Posts are not supposed to be flagged unless they violate the rules/terms and conditions.

Just flagging something because you don’t like it is a misuse of the system.

As to whether something would be done… I have no idea.

Just remember, because you personally don’t like or agree with a post does not mean the post should not be there. Others may like it.

You don’t have to reply if you don’t wish to, and you don’t have to :blue_heart: if you don’t like it.

Flagging is there to remove inappropriate content and flag the thread/post for a GM or whatever title they have now… to review as it’s possibly not appropriate for public viewing and is breaking rules.

Depends on the user making the post as well. Some are known trolls who make topics they know will start something, then put anyone they disagree with on ignore.

Most I see flagged are posters making multiple threads about the same thing.

Removing downvotes was a mistake.
People use flag to “downvote” posts as evidenced by how many get restored by mods.
Also the flag system is missing things like Off Topic and Wrong Forum options to alert mods.

I feel like only trust level 3s or something should be able to use it.
Its so incredibly easy to abuse.

Its a really bad system

it only takes like 5 people to flag a post and cause it to be hidden.

That is good way better than 1

Downvotes are bad too. They’re used 99% of the time as a “I don’t agree” or “I don’t like you” button rather than to highlight irrelevant information.

Blizzard has that statement that says if the post creates unrest in the forums, the poster would be banned. So yeah many ppl not liking it can get you silenced , post deleted or get the thread locked.

1 person can hide your post by switching to 2 alts to flag as spam. 3 spam reports is all it takes. Just like in game their systems are built to be as lazy as possible.

What, exactly, is a downvote for if not to show dislike of something?
All they had to do was remove the part that made the post hidden and it would have been fine, imo.

We should go back to downvotes imo.

I’ve had posts be falsely flagged and still removed, especially when they are falsely flagged as a real life threat. I think it’s a bad system. Bring back downvotes!

I didn’t say dislike, I said “do not agree”.

But either way, downvoting was designed for comments that do not contribute to the discussion.

Lol no. One of the best things they ever did for this forum was remove those.
