I have two fire mage friends who seem to think fire is dead next patch. Combust is slightly less frequent, burst slightly lower , No klepto.
But to me, these all seem like fairly small nerfs considering how strong the spec is. We still have 2 schools of cc, enough burst to 100-0 in a 4 second window if no CDs are traded , and crazy defensives between triune ward , alter time , block, cauterized , and general mobility.
To me it looks like fire is going from S++ tier to S tier. Not sure if I am misinterpreting the nerfs though as I am new to mage.
I’ve heard some people say Frost is probably going to be king, especially if the meta revolves around Locks or just wizards in general, but fire will still be the best for RMX and WMX.
Frost hasn’t been king in years though so it will be interesting to see.
So for starters, I agree that frost is looking viable in 9.1 and that is great.
I know locks can obviously play with frost mages , since it is a classic combo and ran in the awc 9.0.5 finals by C9. But literally 1 content patch ago in 8.3 the best comp was fire + destro , so I don’t think locks being meta means fire is dead.
Fire was a top 3 represented spec at 2200+ in bfa s3. in s2 it was top 4.
Frost wasn’t even close either season. So maybe it was good, but wasn’t close to king rep wise. That’s what I mean. The last time I remember Frost being the most represented Mage spec was WoD.
Because representation shows the strength of a spec? Frost was just a lot harder to play honestly than LUL FIRE. Most were bad and wanted carried by EZ fire. Frost takes 10xs more brain cells to play than fire.
