Is Dungeon Grinding the fastest way to level?

A new meta is emerging where competent 5 man teams blending questing and dungeoning to yield incredible XP per hour numbers.

While traditional leveling routes will still be the optimal route to level, average players will typically get 10-12 days played from 1-60. Taking a player from this position and then having them practice to yield numbers closer to 5 days takes a ton of effort and dedication. Dungeon Grinding shows instant results. You can take a player who isnt as familiar with his leveling route and place him with 4 other killers and they can immediately cut their leveling time in half. This is especially true for classes that traditionally level slower, like warrior.

<Dungeon Grind> NA Alliance PvP (server TBA) We are building a guild full of duo levelers including duo pairs, spell cleavers and melee cleavers. We have more than 120 members. Many of our teams are missing their final players to round out their comp. We provide you with the opportunity to access our spreadsheet of users and find someone to level with on your journey to 60. Whether you are a hardcore nolifer and need the last man to fill out your team of 5, or you are a casual guy looking for a friend to play with on weekends, we aim to link you with like-minded players. The strength of this opportunity is its guild format. The hardest part of leveling as a team, is finding 4 other committed players who adhere to the schedule and are reliable. The reality of running many cleave teams simultaneously is that some of them will inevitably fail, but this is actually our strength. By opting to roll with a guild of cleavers, you have the opportunity to salvage your team and collaborate with other partial teams to save your grind team. We have numerous perks, like level 1 alts that will be logged in at all times and can be added to your party to act as your 6th member and will convert to raid and reset to port your team back to the dungeon entrance in an effort to maximize your efficiency. Hit 60 fast, with your pre BiS and make lasting connections a long the way. Then transition quickly into rading with other players who have achieved 60 and pre BiS early on - consider dungeon grinding and consider Dungeon Grind - message me on discord at Corey#6648 for more details.

Dungeon runs are like power-ups after you’ve done the first run for the quests. Bad XP compared to solo/duo questing. It’s only really a benefit to do additional runs for better leveling gear and helping friends clear content.

And now a message from our sponsor!!

I see this was an advertisement disguised in the form of a question.

But I think the most important question is —> is there more? there just has to be more to this infomercial.

Incorrect. They are actually providing insanely good xp per hour without quests AND are estimated to have players sitting at around 200g at level 42 if they have stuck with a group the entire way up.

It’s decent from an xp/hr perspective…

But only if you’re doing efficient runs… Which most groups will suck at.

There’s also the problem that you now entirely depend on 4 other people having the same schedule to get anything done.

I’ll dungeon spam at points myself (30-40 particularly is handy because SM is multiple dungeons, located close to a horde city /trainers, and before I have a mount), but tbh it’s often more effort than it’s worth.

Im glad you asked because there is! Make gold, level fast, build connections. But what do you offer you ask? Thats simple! We offer a network of like-minded cleavers that allows you to find others to collaborate with even if your individual team flakes out. Imagine hitting 60 with a lot of your pre BiS, a decent chunk of gold, valuable items like a key to UBRS, your attunements etc etc etc. You are now prepared to transition into raiding quickly and seemlessly!

So you’re saying the 1-60 speed runners (in private servers) are wrong? I suppose it depends what class you’re playing too. I.E., a warrior needs to group up to level at a decent pace. It’s also worth mentioning that maybe private server information is misleading?

Forgive me if I’m wrong about anything, my vanilla memories are old.

speed runners don’t group, its a solo thing. u could speed run 1-60 in like 5 hours if u just ran around tagging mobs and having a raid of 60’s following u everywhere 1hitting everything.

Sounds like a decent idea for those who want to dungeon grind their way to sixty.

For me it sounds like a waste of a perfectly fine game world to explore and experience. I believe I will stick to doing each of the dungeons once during leveling to experience them too.

But I am sure there are people who will find this alternative interesting.

I’m glad to have the conversation and build awareness to this meta. I have NO issues with your questions and am glad youre participating in the conversation.

Private server dungeon difficulty was approximately 10-20% higher for various reasons. Private server dungeon elites were only rewarding 200% XP instead of 250% xp like they will reward on Classic.

Certain classes like hunter WILL level faster as a solo. But the reality is that the averaged played to 60 will be about 10 days. Bringing a solo player (even a hunter) from 10 days down to a 5 day played time, requires a ton of optimization and leaves very little room for error. This route is also dependent on a TON of variables that are in questions for a fresh launch. Namely the impact that other players will have on your leveling route due to questing and wPvP.

Dungeon grinding yields insane xp per hour with limited practice AND is based on grinding within a controlled dungeon environment - limiting the affect of other players on a fresh launch. You can take a competent group of 5 and blend them together following a simple route and they will immediately go from 10-12 days played (longer for most warriors) down to around 5-6 days played. Leveling quickly as a dungeon cleave comp is far more accessible than achieving a sub 6 day played time as a solo for most classes / players.

The advantage that a lot of people dont consider is that this actually isnt a race to 60… Cleave groups will be getting attuned and collecting their pre BiS gear at level 55 with a coordinated group. They begin to profit before they are even 60.

On the Classic beta we were seeing teams of 5 (that were not cleave teams, nor did they have good synergy) achieve 12-16 times that were quicker than Joanas world record by 40 mins (grinding RFC). Bare in mind that they did not have a min/maxed route nor was their comp optimized. This method is achievable for almost everyone and is far easier to obtain than optimizing a solo route.

The reality of this method is that you wont even need to use it to get all the way to 60 for it to be worthwhile. Say your team flakes out 40 levels in - you walk away twinked with gear, youve made decent gold, you are ahead of the pack and you havent used up ANY valuable quests - allowing you to transition right back into leveling solo.

Tips Out video on beta final thoughts talks about this

Dungeon grinding is good leveling choice.

Didn’t you already have a thread about this?

Absolutely. We knew dungeon grinding was going to be good and we heard a lot of streamers talk about it early on. Many of us assumed that streamers were going to use dungeon grinding as a means to avoid ganks, which would make sense. So we interpreted their interest in this method as biased; they were simply attempting to justify hiding inside of a dungeon to their fanbase. The reality is that we were wrong. We knew this could work, but we didnt quite understand HOW good this was until we started to compare a lot of the numbers and tune our private servers to represent Classic more closely… Then we started to see the numbers that were emerging from the Classic beta and it was decided; this was the new meta. Many content creators like Hakurai are doing the lords work. My aim is simply to offer players a platform to find other cleavers in a controlled guild setting. The biggest variable to success on a cleave team will be player reliability. By rolling with over 100 other cleavers, you have a TON of insurance that you will be able to find a team, even if your predetermined team (that we connect you with) flakes out.

I wouldn’t exactly say dungeons are bad xp it’s moor that it can take quite some time to get a group I would say if you had a group of friends that fill all roles you could grind dungeons quite easy

Youre right. In fact its insanely good XP. The issue here is finding other people who have a similar schedule to you AND having a backup plan incase they flake out - lucky for our members, we offer both along with some other VERY useful perks… =)

For example we will have level 1 characters that will be logged in at all times and can be invited to your 5 man team, convert to raid, log out, allow the level 1 to reset the dungeon for a quick teleport to the start of the instance. Helping you keep up efficiency. This is a great substitute for /camp on private. This has been tried, tested and true on Classic and is working as intended =)

I really like this idea and think it would be fun to try out especially with a whole guild doing it so you aren’t reliant on the exact same 4 people always. I ran a 3 warrior, enhance shaman, resto druid group in the SM level range back in 2005 and we shredded stuff so fast.

If only you were rolling horde instead hah.

Ironically the most fun part of vanilla was the journey to 60, enjoying the ride. The rush to level cap is when the game lost its sparkle IMO. Thats what many people chase, without knowing why they can’t catch that feel.

Yep and that other thread was specifically about recruiting people for this strategy. I don’t know why we are seeing this again.

Right? Haha. We’re actually attached to a lot of horde teams looking to achieve the same goal. If you are interested I can get you into our disc so you can see the list of other similar teams that are forming - let me know at Corey#6648

I could not agree more. And while many of our guys have participated in the largely antisocial solo leveling experience many times before, we are pleased to opt into a new leveling strategy that is far more social, team oriented and incentivizes communicating with your guild and working towards a common goal! While so many of us grow tired of repeating the same grind for years and years, this offers a new challenge and a new experience to the game we love. Everyone starts off casually leveling 1-60, some players choose to optimize that experience later on =) find what you enjoy in the game and focus on doing the things that make you happy!
