I thought leveling a druid was going to be easy because of access to flight form and stuff. But it’s completely outclassed by the fact that if you pull more than 2 mobs, you’re as good as dead. If you pull 2 mobs, and they have interrupts, you are 1000% dead. Thank god night elves have a passive to make walking faster, cuz ive spent more time dead than alive. Casting one spell at a time while upkeeping DoT is incredibly boring gameplay too. Should I just switch to Feral druid? Feral seems redundant, like another rogue class, which I already have.
Any tips? The druid leveling experience is god awful
I think you might just need to get more accustomed to the druid ability kit and practice a bit more, because they are honestly one of the best levelers imo. I also can’t think of a spec that wont let me easily live through pulling at least 4 mobs at a time. Feral is a little harder for me to live through aoe’ing down big pulls, but still pretty easy honestly. On resto or guardian you can pull packs way larger than that and be fine.
So…I am not sure what the issue is. Can you deacribe what abilities youre using, what spec youre trying this as and what your method of pulling and killing mobs is?
Because druid is probably one of the most comfortable, solo-friendly, easy experiences for leveling that I have played.
In my personal experience, I have leveled several druids and I felt they were very easy to level and very forgiving of mistakes.
I see that you’ve posted on a mage OP, which I’m going to assume is your main. You also commented that your having issues with enemies that interrupt which leads me to infer that your leveling as balance.
I think you might be trying to level up as a mage, with a kiting and spikey burst playstyle, which might then be the issue. As a balance you pull a couple mobs with your dots, pop out a starfall, and when you take damage youll notice your owlkin frequently goes “AHWAROOOHAROOO” and you get a buff for instant cast lunar-strike. Use them when your in melee along with your spenders and dont really hard-cast anything at that point unless your procless and out of Astral Power. I use a weakaura to display the buff.
If things go bad leveling you’ve got lots of options.
Mass Entangle is basically our less awesome version of Frost Nova. Disengaging with wild charge is our blink. Try practicing travel form, jump away, and wild charge in midair for greater distance. This also acts as a fall-distance-reset and is in effect also the druid slowfall.
Bear Form + frenzy regen is a great OSHYT button if you take guardian as an affinity.
If your resto affinity hardcast a regrowth on yourself in moonkin form (to keep the armor), then eat the tiny hot from it with swiftmend. Rejuvenate is a small ticking heal, but over the full duration its actually very strong, keeping that up will get you through almost any world content.
Treants and entangles will let you solo almost any world elites since they give you a reset to get your health back up and reposition.
Not sure what else to say, OP is there a more specific concern I could help you with?
I’ve leveled as a bear in the majority of the xpacs and I can say its the easiest, most survivable, brain dead leveling you can do without playing a prot paladin.
If you don’t mind me asking what level are you? After the level squish and rework I notice a lot of people having issues with leveling are complaining about the early levels when they literally barely have any skills to use.
Generally feral has usually been known to be the better choice for leveling but I’ve always leveled my druids as balance (resto for dungeons) because I just prefer it. I’m leveling a new one now and while yeah it’s definitely slower at the start than say warlock, shaman, or hunter (the only others I’ve touched since the changes) it’s not that bad. Once I got starsurge and moonkin form I was almost one shotting with just the starsurge. Before that point though, it was pretty mind numbing. Can’t speak for later though as my druid is only 25 atm.
This tool is simply the best way to manage pulling multiple enemies as boomkin. However, if you are having survivability issues, I am guessing it is more of a gear and spec familiarity issue.
Starsurge absolutely pumps. It is also important to manage your eclipse states. For example, if you need to enter lunar eclipse, pull with two wraths from a far distance. Immediately follow that by as many starsurges as you can cast. Use treants and starfall/sunfire and follow eclipse. You should be able to destroy several enemies at the same time. Remember that you have more than one spell school. If solar spells are interrupted, use lunar spells.
I’ve maintained a feral druid main since vanilla and have always found it a breeze to level. Increased movement speed, solid self-heals, it’s great. Highly recommend.
