Is dragonriding with a Mac trackpad realistic?

I am very interested in buying Dragonflight, but I’m seeing info on various sites/forums that seems to indicate maybe dragonriding simply isn’t feasible on a trackpad. I am a veteran trackpad player, and I was accustomed to flying with CMD+Force Click (to simulate right-click and drag) in older expansions.

Does anyone have any experience trying to dragonride with a trackpad, or would they be willing to test? I don’t wanna drop $$$ on the game if I have to start using a mouse (I have good reasons not to).

Hi there! Been using a Mac trackpad since BC and have never had a mouse. My experiences with flying with the trackpad are~ it’s awkward. Enough to make me want to get a mouse to hook up specifically to use a mousepad. You can make it function but I don’t see myself winning any races with it. I’m usually just a couple of seconds under silver with most of the races if I don’t accidentally land on a rock or a tree branch. (I’m not going to say I’m good at dragon riding though, I suppose I’d have to attach a mouse to compare)

Edit: I went back to try the flights again and was able to get gold rank on all that I tried~ so with practice you probably could~ still wouldn’t recommend for racing though considering the awful right-click you have to try to manage to start your dragon on the course in the first place.

honestly, i doubt it. I can’t imagine using dragon riding without either a controller or mouse steering. Even if you do manage to fumble around with trackpad (and you will fumble), you won’t have a snowballs chance in hell in doing dragon races and will probably get kicked from the dungeon that has dragon riding in it at least a couple times by impatient pugs

Aha… I was gonna ask how crucial dragonriding racing is… I had no idea it was involved in dungeons. Are dungeons required? Historically I seem to remember them being purely optional.

Are dragonriding races essential to progress in any other way that couldn’t be solved with ride along?

My primary motivation is just to play through the expansion co-op with my spouse. I don’t think either of us cares much whether or not we do dungeons. We just do quests and day to day type stuff.

Edit: I also found an add-on called “DragonBinds” which looks really promising for controlling the dragon with just WASD. Not sure if it’s responsive enough for racing. though.

Edit 2: I also read that ride along is usable in dungeons, and my spouse does use a mouse, so I can probably just whelp with them

races aren’t essencial no and DR is only in one dungeon right now and currently it’s more of a mess because blizzard lets people who haven’t even learned dragon riding queue for it, then be unable to even follow group because of it

Thanks! I’ve decided that 1) I don’t NEED a mouse to enjoy Dragonflight and 2) I’m gonna buy and play

I’ll rely on a combination of my prowess with my trackpad, potentially that mod, and ride along to get by. It sounds like I’ll still have a lot of fun that way.

Edit: For what it’s worth, I find a dragonriding on mac trackpad pretty easy. Just holding command and force clicking the trackpad simulates right click drag. I keep command held unless I am just gliding, in which case I just A and D to steer. Already got all my glyphs.
