I’m getting ready to give disc a shot on my normally holy priest and I’m curious if its a more reactive or proactive healer? Any advice is also really welcome.
Is it the spec xor is it how the spec is played? One could put a hot xor shield on the tank just before a fight is initiated. That would be pro-active, anticipating. Responding to significant damage by doing a shield, a hot or fast heal, and a slower heal would be reactive. It’s my perception that it all depends on whether you have the time to anticipate the damage or simply react to it after the fact. In my somewhat limited experience, healing is a bit of both.
Its likely the most pro-active healing spec out there. Althouth it can be played reactively to some level, it performs better if you’re setup before the damage is done.
Ex: rapture lets you put big shields on the groupe, 1 person at a time, for a defined among of time. Its easier if you just put them before the damage is done but it can also come in after the dmg is done to prevent players death while you attonement heal them after.
Boon of the ascended is our big healing/dmg cd in dongeon. Again you can setup your attonements and start boon just before dmg is done to make it feels painless for the groupe. Or you can wait to output big heals after damage has been done to up your group really fast.
TLDR: its a spec that feels smooth when played pro-actively. But it can still work reacticely up to a certain level (at least in dongeons) although it will be more punitive.
It generally requires the most proactivity. Once you get behind, it’s generally harder to ‘catch up’ than it is on other healers. On big pulls/boss abilities you generally want to know which CD you’re using when so you can be prepared.
