Is devourer DH fun?

I leveled my devourer to level 85 but I got boring very fast. Not sure If I am missing something.

How are you guys feeling about this spec? it is very boring that it only has 3 core dps buttons outside the metamorphosis: Devour, Reap, Void Ray

It’s not boring if you cleave things down and it depends a lot on your ability to time abilities and keep meta up. If you find timing and planning ahead your abilities unfun, then it’s not for you

I enjoy mine, though I’m not very good at it. In M+ doing 10s and higher where things actually last long enough for your to be able to get some dps in, it’s quite enjoyable.

It’s awful. Consume spam is degenerative gameplay and anyone who enjoys it is suffering from Stockholm syndrome.

Conceptually it is fun.

From a practical standpoint it’s donkey cheeks. Casting while moving (except for the 1 single spell that the entire spec revolves around) SHOULD be the default power of all casters with a reward for turreting…but having SO EFFING MUCH of your potential locked behind your gimmicky AF meta window just sucks.

Like you can just be havoc and roll your face over the keyboard and melt everything and mostly wearing the same exact gear. Your meta FEELS like an actual monster CD and not this gimmicky dollar store version that also happens to gatekeep your actual power that itself takes a herculean amount of effort to setup just to potentially pull off…and FU if you get picked for a movement mechanic and LOL your spot on the meters.

I’d say it is, but I’d also say that devourer could use a fair bit of elbow grease. It has two playstyle that both have some good things going for them, in particular devourer movement and chain casting can be quite fun and eradicate is probably one of the most satisfying aoe buttons in the game, however there are also issues with forced movement with the melee build and long locked in casts that punish you for needing to use utility in particular interrupts.

The changes to devourer this patch feel a bit iffy in group content, but world content devourer has never felt better. It also has more then devour reap and void ray melee build uses hunt and voidblade and hungering slash while ranged has star. Soul Immo is also pressed fairly regularly. I will say having the talents that enable using star tied to the level 90 talents was a choice by blizzard as well.

I don’t hate the spec, but I find myself switching back-and-forth between the two DPS specs when I get bored of one I switched to the other.

Yeah was my experience with it too.

I was kinda half-way planning on maining it first season, new shiny spec and all. I leveled and geared my DH first at the start of the season, it was fun.. for about 2 weeks. Then it got boring fast, haven’t touched it since lol.

The damage is good, brokenly good for most of S1 in fact, at least in PvP, but that’s all it brings. Has very little CC, and while the damage numbers are good it’s suuuper boring to actually do said damage.

Who’d have thunk it, 3 button dps spec that only brings damage to the table would get old after a bit. Shoulda seen it coming in retrospect

I’ve enjoyed it at max level but I feel it needs one more spell to make it feel a bit more fluid.

My response should be taken with a grain of salt…

Previously, Demon Hunter was my LEAST favorite class.

Now, my least favorite class is Evoker.

Of the Demon Hunters specs, BY FAR, Devourer is the spec I like the LEAST.

Not sure about the current spec people play, seems like they don’t use collapsing star anymore and that’s what I found fun when I tried that spec last season. Basically your rotation is about managing your stacks and resources to squeeze in as many collapsing stars as possible and that was big dam, very satisfying and made me forget that the class doesn’t have a lot of buttons.

It’s by far the weirdest spec I’ve ever played. You’re entire rotation is spent playing hungry hippos with little blueberries, and when you finally gain the ability to go big boss mode you are racing against the clock to deal as much damage as possible before you shrink back down.

The hybridization of the ranged spells and melee attacks are also completely antithetical. You have two playstyles in the same spec regardless of which Hero tree you pick, but can’t be played together as the opposite of which you pick does no damage. Example, if I lean completely into Annihilator, all my melee attacks such as Void Blade will just tickle my target.

Without having more than 3 keys to press the spec gets stale very quickly, I can’t ever imagine a universe where I main Devourer, they would need to change a lot.

I hate it. I can’t stand needing to do the Soul Fragment Dance in between casting and dodging things trying to kill me. My old man hands get fatigued.

Maybe this isn’t common knowledge but you can’t have more than 10-11 soul fragments on the floor at a time, and if you generate souls while at or near that amount you automatically pick them up. Pac manning them is an option but it’s typically better to just dip in for an extra one if you’re a tiny bit off than specifically try to run into them immediately.

My DH is one of my top 2 alts. I am underwhelmed by Devour. Its cool and voidey but I dont like the movement style. Fel rush in Havoc is one of the coolest things about playing a DH. Zipping around everywhere.

After you leap somewhere on Devour your auto run just stops. I get why its like that, you can leap up a cliff and you dont want to run off it, but it just feels bad for me. Kinda ruins the entire fun of DH for me. Ill keep playing with it but so far Havoc is still it for me.

I call it my “What the fel am I doing again?” spec. I have to decide that I’m just bad at melee and then switch over to dev and then decide I’m just not good at that one either then switch back to havoc cause at least that’s fun to be bad at a spec I at least like.

That’s where I’m at.

My DH is my main. As long as I’m not dying to stupid, I’m happy.

Havoc has a lot of get out of jail cards I like.

Yes, I’m well aware that I’m not doing more than 33K in single target. I’m not dying to stupid and I am hitting buttons. Plus, I usually don’t outgear the content I’m going into.
