Is Details to blame for Aug Rage?

Alot of people have very strong negative opinions about Augmentation.

We all know that their damage exists but it doesnt exist on internal combatlogs like Details and skada (i dont know anyone who uses skada these days).

So is the problem not Aug but Details.

Sure ok Aug is broken powerful when it comes to group Defensive use. It is basically what carries alot of these high key pushers through keys and they are addressing that.

If you went back to an era with out a damage meter (before MC) you would find that nobody really cares about damage, aslong as bosses die. But these days everyone wants to see their big numbers and thinks, big number is big success, on the charts and in the key levels.

REMEMBER, the last vault upgrade is +10 timed or not. Anything above a 10 is considered just faster crest farming. 2800 next season will make it so your keys dont deplete below a +12. And thats a quality of life change but you dont need an Aug to do a +12.

So what is the major issue here? The people raging usually dont do above a 9 anyway.

This is a Blizzard problem and not a details one. Details is doing the best they can with what they’re given. Blizzard does not want their “support” spec to be another look at the meters dps. It’s that simple.

It’s been FOTM for far too long. It needs to take a dirt nap out back for a few patches. However, there in lies the problem. If they tune it, it’s garbage since why bring an Aug when you could just bring another dps, etc.

Cope harder. Aug is being whittled down one nerf at a time. It’s just a matter of time. The sheer amount of players done with aug is palpable.

A good Aug is a dead Aug. Delete Aug.

It is player perception.

You don’t need Aug for a +15 but because a lot of the bleeding edge players bring an Aug, everyone wants to follow them so you end up with players treating it like it is required.

That, and Aug has no real way to judge performance without doing a deep log analysis so a large amount of Aug players are just there for the free carry, the fake it til you make it strat.

It’s a combination of factors, the primary one being bad DPS. They latched onto the excuse as to why they weren’t being taken was specifically because of Aug. It’s an easy little scapegoat for their ego and if it’s ANYTHING that DPS players have in spades it’s ego.

Then you have the bad actors slithering in that wanted a tank spec instead of something unique. So they subtly BS in Aug threads.

And lastly, there’s a surprising amount of the WoW community that hates Dracthyr in general. Aug is simply in the spotlight and easy to dunk on

Details has an option that is defaulted on to estimate the DPS given by augmentation.

No, it’s just a dog water spec that has an objectively boring play-style, does absolutely nothing of value with its micro-role, and Blizzard is incapable of balance.

Not to mention that the spec is simply dead outside of high keys. There is no reason to play Aug below, like, +12.

This really is the biggest issue. Because it’s so powerful in coordinated, top tier groups pushing highest keys, the community perception is that it’s OP. Honestly they really need to make changes so that it’s OK in 12+ and also good in lower keys / other content.

You missed one, and it’s actually really easy to see and point out.
Aug is extremely unhealthy to the game balance.

That’s right, you don’t, but since it provides a ton of utility and extra defences it’s a 92% pick rate for all title keys since it’s creation.

Was gonna point this out as well, just thought everyone had that on. Is it accurate enough, meh, maybe?

Not a good idea. Because if they make it more useful there it will only make the top end even worse. I suppose there might be something they could do, but I doubt Aug players would be happy with it.

What I mean by making it ‘ok’ in 12+ is to make it non-meta but still playable if possible, because having the only role as support and being meta is bad for the game. They should adjust aug so that it’s not as effective in optimised content, but much better than it is in sub-optimal content.

I just don’t see a way to make a “support” role good for lower keys that won’t also be good for better optimization.

So many ways! Here are a few:

  • Make the damage rely on the Aug’s rotation once it’s applied to other players and scale off the aug’s stats (like bombardments). This would need a big change to ebon might.
  • Give us a trinket that lets us summon two dragon whelps which work mechanically like warlock imps (no pet control required) but will automatically be the buff targets for our spells, meaning we can do dps-like damage when boosting weaker dps in low keys.
  • Put a limit on the additional damage players can deal with our buff spells (similar to how some trinkets work) and let our buffs be more powerful, so weaker dps gain more benefit but optimal players have a restraint.
  • Adjust our talents so that we can provide either additional survivability OR buff damage but not both. Always good to have player agency.
  • Continue making our personal damage more significant and bring our support in different ways, like providing transport, teleports for others, healing and so on, but due to the action economy those support things would take directly from the damage we can provide.

Are you really a support class anymore if the damage is coming from your own rotation and stats

Yeah, definitely. It’s a bit like someone casting Holy Weapon on someone while playing dnd. You are boosting their damage with your power, juicing up their attacks. The more energy you put into juicing them up, the harder that extra damage hits. It’s rotationally and thematically the same but simply dependent on you juicing them - they still need to hit the target.

You cannot blame Details or Skada for incorrect Aug metrics. There is a known issue in the WoW combatlogs API, the prevents counting the Aug contribution to the DPS of other players with addons correctly.

Currently the only way to get proper Aug metrics is to use the WoW combatlog text logs and upload them to warcraftlogs.

Calling it a “known issue” implies that its bugged, whereas its completely intentional that damage reallocation is only done in the advanced combat log, which isn’t something addons can access. Scalecommander has the same issue in that the damage in the combat log shows up as damage for the other players and is reattributed to the evoker in the advanced combat log. It wasn’t until an update in November where details started manually reattributing the bombardment damage, though its only possible for it to do this when there is 1 scalecommander evoker. If there are multiple, it wouldn’t be able to know which evoker’s bombardment was triggered at any given time.

Half of these replies are hilarious. Haters stay salty.

It was in general a bad implementation of a support-dps.

A true supporter should not buff the dps of others into oblivion.
A supporter should help with mana reg, health reg, some shielding, interrupting and small dps+heals. Also (depends on the class) movement-speed of the group/friends and movement-decrease of enemies. Maybe 1 new CC too.
That would be a true supporter.

But some streamer-people would not be hyped bec. of that= it would not be overpowered just: nice to have. WOW should not be game which is dictated/influenced so much from streamers who are playing NOT like the majority of the playerbase.

They should create the support role and add 1-3 new support specs (maybe of a new class too like Bard e.g.) and then recreate Aug too. Just help others and do not push dps extremly.

Like this we would have more relaxed supporters who just help at everything a bit, but do not be super at for example pushing dps/shielding.
With a 6. spot at groups (1 for tank, for 1 healer and 1 locked for supporters) no dps had to compete vs supporters for a spot and the hate will vanish too.

DPS meters are the cause of all toxicity

Certainly a lot, yes. And also the pillar of so much misunderstanding and baseless elitism. Not all though.

I think blizz has proven the can’t figure out Aug as a support spec. They should rework it to another dps flavor, like how mage has flavors. Melee could be a fun take. Alternatively I think it could be an interesting test it as a tank spec. Visually I picture a big beefy dragon form akin to wrathion in nyalotha.
