Is Denathrius the best part of Shadowlands?

Everything about him is so much more interesting than Sylvanas or Zovaal. Why couldn’t he be the main villain of Shadowlands?

Blizzard is better at writing short arc villains than main arc ones. It’s probably for the best that Denathrius has a small role.

Since he’s so popular Blizzard will try to bring him back and ruin him. shadowlands is done unless they do some mini-content in 9.2.5 like another Magister Terrace level difficulty dungeon… “castle nathria was only a setback.”

the start of shadowlands had good hype for me and my group and then we were rushing to get into castle natrhia just sire and the raid looked so cool. After Castle Nathria and Sire rest of Shadowlands was SH*t

I thought he was overly dramatic and whiny. I thought his sword was more interesting than he was.

maybe Denathrius will pop off from nowhere and kill the jailer

I think the CN raid in its entirety has been the best part of Shadowlands. They dropped an end of xpac quality raid with an end of xpac quality final boss fight right at the beginning - very tough to top that raid.

The sad part is that I genuinely believe that’s something Blizzard is going to do.

I think we have very, very, very different understandings on what “best” means.

Yeah, I don’t get what anyone actually liked about him.

Another smug wannabe villain that got spanked. His sword -was- better.

I would love to have that sword mog!

I hope we get a lot more small, contained stories in the next expansion. You play through the old world in somewhere like the barrens, and there’s just people around. People doing their thing, living their lives. Usually some kind of wacky. You pop in, interact, have a little adventure, and that’s it. No getting overly involved, no big cosmic threat to thwart. Just a wee story.

All these years later I still remember Dorak so well. His little story was so simple; pig men set fire to his wolf stables, so save his wolves. Now that’s a heroic tale!

Awesome character design, charming personality, a somewhat compelling motivation as a character (he’s not pure evil / insane like 95% of WoW villains), an awesome boss fight, an interesting place in the lore.

What’s NOT to like about him is the better question.

If the Jailer had been Denathrius I think he’d have gone over better as a villain. Zovaal is just a boring generic bad guy with no personality while Denathrius manages to have a fun personality and is somewhat charming

Because the writers legitimately think the big bad “pathetic mortals” villains are better characters. It always catches them by surprise when fans respond positively to villains with actual character. Denathrius was initially going to have no role after Castle Nathria. That was changed due to fan reactions. The exact same thing happened to BFA Bwonsamdi.

This is true. But even the really stupid villains who couldn’t stop monologuing and explaining their plans to you in detail in Diablo 3 are still better villains than the Jailer lol

Eh… both are bad, but I’ll always have a personal hatred for Azmodan. Materializing himself as a floating head was ridiculous enough, but the fact that the narrative had to grind to a complete halt every time he decided to tell us things we already knew generated a personal hatred in me that simply hasn’t been matched by any other villain since.

Hard to imagine that Diablo 3’s best Act villain (before Reaper of Souls launched) was the Butcher, if for no other reason than the fact that he had nothing to say.

Agree, he should have 100% been the big bad.
Way more interesting character.

Nah the jailers nipple is the best part of shadowlands.

His sword rules.
