Hello Warlocks. Looking at making my Warlock my next alt. Simple question: Is Demo the only viable spec at “endgame” - meaning normal raids and low key M+ or does Affl and Destro have a place? I like Demo the least of the 3 specs and would much prefer Aff or Destro but I’m wondering if my DPS will suffer so much that it would become a problem in PUGs.

you can play whatever you want man, don’t let others tell you what you can and can’t play. in casual content it doesn’t really matter

My personal experience is, yes, Demo is the only viable one for M+ races starting tomorrow.
I am sure, in time, my answer will be wrong…but right now, it’s true. Good luck!

I’ve had similar numbers with Demo and Destro, I haven’t messed with Aff yet because of PTSD issues with being forced to raid Aff during WOTLK.

I love Destro, but too many of its abilities rely on being able to stand still to cast them. There is a lot of running around in these dungeons. I did an M0 as dest and was next to useless because of this. i think affliction should work well because most of the dots can be cast while moving but I haven’t tested this theory in M0 yet.
If you’re not doing mythic raiding or very high M+ literally play whatever you want. If you are doing those things and you’re a very good one-trick, still do whatever you want. In my experience, people tend to perform better on specs they are more comfortable with anyway.

For low keys and normal mode raids you can play anything, spec is largely irrelevant at that level of play… so play whatever you like best out of the 3 specs.
If you’re wanting to take it a bit more seriously you’ll definitely want to play Demo though - especially for M+. Aff is just undertuned garbage atm, and destro really doesn’t have the best damage output for AoE or pure ST.
All the specs are good for warlock. Destro is right up there with the other specs so dont let the people who arent good at playing a caster misinform you. They wreck in bgs too if you wanna delete ppl with chunky damage. For mythic+ You can play the aoe infernal build from SL they had to nerf cuz it was too good. Sucks that they still kept the nerf where the blasphemy infernal doesnt stun players when it spawns i think thats kinda BS

No there are 2 other warlock specs out there that they let you use at the end game.

I have the most fun playing demo, that’s what’s important to me.

A lot of the fights actually have aoe, cleave and whatnot where aff excells. It’s honestly not as bad as they make it out to he at all and some cases better. It’s only lacking in pure single target where there is only one fight in the new raid. Even then it’s good since aff handles movement better than both demo and desto. Mechanics can plummit demo very bad on a ramp, aff is just maintaining, and easy to do on the move. I typically also do amazing with add in dungeons and the m0s, now with more mob hp it’s gonna be even better. I think if properly itemized, all 3 specs have a place this tier. Some just better than others at specific things or some just better “overall” if you don’t want to flip flop around and stick to one spec all raid like Demo can. Personally though, I’m giving aff a go as I have since 2004.

Some people tend to think that for sure, play meta and nothing else 
OP just a heads up legit if you arent running mythic raid or pushing high keys (which sounds like you wont be) just play what you like. Any dps loss at lower levels is negligible.

If you want to be optimal, yes, which is sad because it’s clunky and affliction is the iconic warlock spec but it’s garbage atm.

Most people will play demo, not know how to handle movement, and blame not getting PI for low performance
