Is dampening driving away healers

This is why I sorta started this thread I went from healing on resto and disc on shadowlands to this and it makes me not even want to play healer at all

I quit healing because it was unfun and unrewarding. Especially when double melee or even a single melee runs you into the ground all the time, but thatā€™s me idk about anyone else.

For solo shuffle, probably not. Although I would imagine the dampening changes are rather oppressive to people healing currently. Blizzard for one reason or another is really pushing the idea that after 2-3 minutes, someone should just die regardless of the setup required or not-required to actually kill something. I feel like they swung too far in that direction. But thatā€™s also coming from the perspective of someone who heals on priest currently, and while Iā€™m not the best priest in the world, I do feel like priest isnā€™t doing too hot right now.

I donā€™t care about the dampening changes. The only 2 things that bother me when trying to heal are:

  1. Melee are far too oppressive. If I could peel them even slightly this might not feel as bad, but their gap closers and root, etc. immunities are just in a really stupid place right now.

  2. The obvious massive advantages a couple healing classes have over others.

Healing in arranged PVP is still fine, at least so long as youā€™re playing with people you know.

This is what makes solo shuffle so annoying for some healing specs is that others are in outer space compared to the ones which arenā€™t. If I, as a priest, see something like preservation on the other team, I know itā€™s basically an auto lose, even if I play correctly. And thatā€™s just a bad feeling. Solo shuffle highlights class disparities extremely easily.

This dampening stuff just feels kinda lazy I really liked healing in solo shuffle in pre patch now Iā€™m kinda like why bother just hop on dps sit in que for 27 minutes break even because one of the healers is a dracthyr and the other is resto lol

Actually, Iā€™ve changed my mind. I never did enough RSS until after reset this week. Got an Ele, then 2 melee and a Warlock. Other healer and I went 3/3 because the Ele just couldnā€™t be kept up. Everyone gains rating but the 2 healers. lol If I had went 50/50 in normal arena I would have at least gained some CR because my MMR is never lower than my CR.

Kind of lame, bruh.

it is definitely not the dampening lol

you can literally predict most outcomes based on healer classes right now and it is slapping you in the face obvious as one healer is constantly trying to survive or keep everyone up while the other healer is under no pressure at all

that on top of whatever wacky mmr/rating system is working against healers in this dynamic and feeling like bliz is wasting a ton of healersā€™ time

also playing as dps is more rewarding and easier in almost every single way except for the q time

what makes it super funs is add ons like gladiator and healers have to die

Dont for get the resto druid who can chain you in CC for 12 seconds straight, while you hope and pray your teammates bound their person cds.

Havent had the chance to do a whole lot, but rsham in SS definately hurts. Mobility and slows of melee cleaves are near impossible to mitigate. Even in wall, astral shift, recall and wall again with stoneskin, i still get wrecked. I took a lock gate the other day and im pretty sure the ww monk beat me to the other end of it hahahaha.

Id still like blizz to figure something out for leavers. It feels really bad to go 5-0 and have someone rage and get 0 points for it

So you want

Its almost like you should win before dampening kicks in

Take away damp and youā€™d be on here crying about how every solo shuffle match takes 50 minutes

Quitters too. Itā€™s no fun fighting for your life over 5 rounds to have someone quit in round 6.

Iā€™m a scrub so take this with a grain of salt, but I have a number of reasons.

  • Iā€™m learning. The kind of players I get matched with while Iā€™m trying to learn arena and priest make the process more punishing than it would be otherwise. I end up chasing my own team 50% of the time.
  • Going ham on the healer the entire game and just trying to rush down the other teamā€™s healer as fast as possible is a common strat. The bottom line is getting snared, rooted, stunned, kicked, and feared and trying to live-lord through a relentless double team with no assistance isnā€™t fun or a good time.
  • The ratio of round wins to MMR gains against round losses to MMR losses seems very messed up. It feels like I can make headway with a series of good games and lose most of it in one bad game.
  • Games against Prevoker and Resto Druid are uphill battles. Holy isnā€™t meta. Melee is very dominant and they can get on me easier than I can get away.
  • The overall lack of healers means the healer you can get matched against may not be near your bracket at all. Theyā€™re throwing healers into the meat grinder so DPS get their games in because if they actually enforced some semblance of fair matching in healers then queue times would be even more protracted.
  • Because of the first two, I only queue enough to lock in great vault rewards and then I level alts.

I have played RSS a handful of timesā€¦ I think Iā€™m likeā€¦ almost 1400. I stopped trying to queue because there was other stuff in PVE I wanted to do, but in my 60~ rounds, I can firmly say that if you werenā€™t pres or MW, healers get trained and very rarely, someone will line up a CC chain once our braincells connect and their DPS would die in a stormbolt.

Who would think this kind of gameplay is fun?

Damping is a lazy way to balence healing vs dps.

Part of it is dampening, part of it is awful healer balance imo. There is a huge disparity between the various healersā€™ mana bars, throughput, and susceptibility to kicks/CC right now.

And on top of those issues health bars are spiking like 40-70% in a single global back and forth while a bunch of instant unavoidable ranged CC is flying your way if you leave the pillar.

Damp is fine imo, donā€™t want every game to come down to mana.

Burst is too high though, while I donā€™t like long games I donā€™t want someone to go from 70% to dead in a global either. Especially when half of the trash solo queue dps blame their healer for the 200k hit they took.

Most healers have no real way to prepare for something like that, itā€™s either the dps has to be aware and use a defensive alongside the healer being ready for it, or just die.
Such little room for error isnā€™t going to attract people and will push them away.

Also the general nature of solo is just terrible for healers. The complete lack of coordination. Dropping a link that people avoid like the plague. Earthen wall? Sounds dangerous better use all my mobility to leave it while kiting none of the incoming damage!

This large pillar here, I think I should run behind it with no trinket or defensives up and fight their whole team 1v3, I mean am I a coward? No! Iā€™ll then blame the healer who has no realistic way of following me for not in fact doing 100k HPS from out of LoS!

Should I, as a damooge dealer, peel the DH and Fury off this poor Rsham on my team because there is literally no way for him to survive it otherwise? Nah, my job is damooge! Will just send the sham rage whispers after we lose.

The whole format is just designed against healers tbh. Not even to mention the outrageous MMR nonsense.

no the near 100% uptime from melee is drinving them away lol

Dampening is a crap mechanic. it was much more fun trying to break away and take a sip of mana to keep healing. if you manage to get a heal off, it should be for the full amount, not 30%ā€¦ Bring back mana drains if you need to, but mana should be the limiting factor, not dampening.
