Is combat becoming more annoying than fun?

It really seems like there’s a disconnect between the game they want to make and the game they have.

For me the trend started in 8.3 with horrific visions and specifically Alleria, and what I’m seeing is extreme back to back, no pause, no change in tempo, just turn it up to 11 dance dance mechanics and excessive use of CC on players.

For some classes this can work, but for a lot of classes that have to be watching resource bars, when CD’s are ready, and juggle 20+ abilities while getting interrupts in, this constant run out of circles with mobs warping and running everywhere is more anxiety inducing and frustrating than fun.

The mechanics are just so constant and overused. No texture to it, just mechanic mechanic mechanic mechanic.

I suspect they’re trying to combat all the Add on aids we have but it’s really just pushing everyone to use more of them.

And I see you coming with with your git gud/you suck replies. This isn’t about stroking your ego but if you need that ego stroke, here you go, this has nothing to do with if combat is fun, it’s because I suck and you’re gods gift to WoW.

Yup. And because we have so many tryhards telling us this game is a joke and so easy to learn, its only going to get worse.

Game has become crazy busy now compared to say even WOD.

I have noticed people tend to overstate their skill in this game. And because of this I think that Blizzard thinks that means everyone wants it to be even harder.

I already hated the dance dance revolution design, especially in mmos. Its actually quite stupid when you think about it. But that ship has long sailed and the type of people this game caters to now are the DDR crowd.

So ramp it up I say. I actually want to see these clowns break on the same system they begged for.

The only mob type I find especially annoying are the spriggans. They’re excessively mobile, love to try to jump through and damage you, high damage, and prone to heavy mobbing.

Granted even with all their spaz-tastic jumping around, I’m fortunate to have dots and starfall going to keep pressure on them as individually they don’t have a lot of health.

I would say all in all it’s more demanding then pre cata, but less demanding then cata-legion.

Obviously this is a little different based on your specs.

My guess is they are trying to find the sweet spot for complexity and feeling smooth, which is a difficult task. As a demo lock main for a long time, my personal favorite iterations were Cata and Legion, felt smooth, rewarding, and players were clearly performing differently based on their skill levels.

The problem is that there’s a big gap between M+ and Raids. Raids are very simple, straight-forward, and essentially easy, and a lot of big name community figures whined to Blizzard to add more depth to rotations to make the raid gameplay more engaging. This has resulted in some specs becoming (or remaining) insanely busy, like Feral. A major side-effect is that unfortunately the specs that have this level of complexity do not gel with M+ very well. Feral can only do well in optimal conditions becaues it was balanced around these simple, sterile raid encounters, but any interruption it is game-play results in a steep DPS loss, and M+ is built with these kind of interruptions as part of the core gameplay.

You’re never going to see this fixed until Blizzard starts giving classes with this kind of jank more options to “opt out” while still doing competitive DPS (I suppose technically the option does exist - you just play Boomkin instead, haha).

This sounds like where weakauras2 comes in handy. You can build a custom UI to track all that.

They’re gonna hit you with “I SHOULDNT NEED 3RD PARTY ADDONS TO PLAY THE GAME I ONCE LOVED”.

Don’t leave a Voidwalker with two of them. They sometimes can kill it.

Gonna need to disagree here, there is a significant jump in difficulty when hitting most mythic raids, where M+ has far less going on.

Granted, extremely high keys are very difficult and can be equivalent to M raiding, even the later bosses in raids. But the fact M bosses like Denathrius, KJ, Azshara exist, I’d say people prop up M+ difficulty a bit to high on that pedestal.

I actually have to deal with people saying this all the time. Like, I say things like, “why didn’t you AMS when the mage popped combust” and then get told"why didn’t you warn me he had combust up" and then I say, “bigdebuffs shows it for you” and then I hear “we shouldn’t need to have addons. This meta is stupid and I don’t want to play anymore.”

:l

I play super, SUPER casually, usually just grabbing my elite set via pugs and sometimes with these friends. They will not… they REFUSE to get addons that will tell them they are about to get globaled. :frowning:

I 100% understand you, wish more people would see it as a beneficial tool, rather than a burden.

Promise it would make some a much better player :pensive:

IS COMBAT BECOMING MORE ANNOYING THAN FUN?

you mean its NOT just me? lol
Im seriously SICK of this crap with stun/slow/root by EVERY FREAKING WORLD TRASH in the expansion.
I thought Id finally found something that didnt sl…and thats as far as I got before I got chain slowed.
They pull this crap again and I think Im done buying future expansions.

Somehow they got the mistaken impression that ‘annoying’ = ‘challenge/fun’

That last boss in MoTS with explosives, it would break computers if any more was going on.

I use Tell Me When

It doesn’t make the content more enjoyable, just doable.

Which is the issue IMHO.

They don’t really need to design raid encounters where you stand still and do your rotation with no mechanics. If you want that, there are training dummies in almost every major city.

I wouldn’t say it’s a lot going on, as much as what’s going on really Hurts.

And is annoying. Explosive is annoying, I think we can all agree with that, lol.

Mythic Sire looks crazy and honestly a lot of fun.

“Content creators” like Asmongold who have a loud voice and Blizzard’s ear are not even playing on that level though. They’re playing Normal and Heroic and then saying they want more complexity to rotations. That’s part of the problem.

I can’t stand him tbh, only wow content creator I enjoy would be Nobel and preach, because lore is cool, and preach has a lot of experience in the high end, but is also very good at taking into account the average player.

Can you give some comparisons? Like a run through ToP is

First packs don’t stand in tantrum.
First boss kick necrobolt, stun rogue, don’t stand in bad
Chosen wing stun jagged quarrel, avoid very obvious aoe from named npc, kill captain first.
Chosen boss kill banner, don’t stand in bad, don’t waste CDS in duel

And it’s that simple the entire dungeon, every pull has really just 1 or 2 things you have to watch out for.

ehhhh i dont know some of bosses have really great design (sanguin depth/necrotic wake) but its things like explosive orbs spawning from adds away from group that make the run toxic and unfun tbh
