Is Classic worth playing now? Like starting right now

No evidence, just pipe dream. I assume they’ll let us enjoy phase 6 for a while, before bothering with TBC letting some people leave to TBC.

An Orc can dream!

I started over with this character on a new server with some friends and I can say it’s been pretty okay. I definitely see way more boosting and reserves and min/max mentalities here as compared with my alliance server (Deviate Delight), but not so much so that I’ve been unable to find dungeon groups and what not.

I’d say it’s still totally worth playing. I’m pretty casual, and even as a raider I haven’t taken it all that seriously. (Pretty much no one in my group has put much focus in world buffs and consumes) There are definitely guilds of every type, so if you want to raid, just find the right fit.

Haven’t multiple guilds already shanked one another for the AQ bug mount?

Thats if youre in the top guild on your server for your faction. Something 99.9% of people on the server wont be

Seems indictive of the mindset that is present through-out Classic.

I’ve been having fun getting back into things on my low level Horde characters on Bloodsail Buccaneers.

It’s a RP server so it works best if you have a RP friendly name and a vague story for your character, even if you never actually RP.

Finding dungeon groups can be tricky but there isn’t much boosting. The Hardcore Challenge means low level areas have decent numbers of questers so the overland isn’t lonely.

Youll likely need a large server if you expect quest PUGs and not having to solo through mid level content.

Im sure some anecdotes will surface to disagree, but fwiw there are far more reports of these mid-level carry requirements, than not, across most of Classic.

any time is worth starting … Classic will remain classic forever . In other words you don’t have to worry about being “out dated” .

This game is always at least “okay” when playing with friends.

I’ve been leveling an Alliance hunter on Sulfuras. He’s 53 now. I still see quite a bit of players leveling. Dungeons: it’s hit or miss. You typically see dungeons forming (non-boost) for SM, Ulda, and ZF–not so much the others, which is sad. I have a hunter quest for Sunken Temple but NEVER see groups forming for it.

All in all, it does feel like the community at large has “beaten Classic”. Most players are farming end game and the levelers are usually alts getting boosted. Solo leveling, however, retains its laid-back, magical feel as it did back in the day. Just wish I could take a break from leveling every now and then to group up and dungeon.

I was kinda like that, but on my server almost every night after midnight, there seems to be a great group of people who just offer free boosts. Honestly, not gonna turn that down.

One 2 nights ago the booster offered a 50 gold prize for a quiz. I won it. On the second run he asked if he should up the gold to 100 for the quiz or just give each 25. We all voted 25 each. In one night I have my level 40 mount gold from a nice friendly player and I am not even 30 yet.

I don’t know, outside of those extremely niche communities I have yet to see anything bad on classic servers. Everyone seems pretty chill

Depends on what you’re looking for IMO. I originally rolled on a populated PvP server but had to drop out when phase 2 hit, because the permacamping honor minmax thing just wasn’t what I was playing for (I was hoping for a PvP server experience that was much more, well, vanilla like). I haven’t come back because the world buff meta makes less than zero sense to me, and I don’t really care for the bizarre faction-guild dynamics that have been built on PvP servers either.

So I’m planning to roll a new character on a medium pop PvE server next, where I have a lot more control over my experience and can better steer it toward true vanilla-like. It’s a shame though, because I “grew up” on vanilla PvP servers, but Classic PvP servers are an entirely different and much uglier beast.

Bring a friend or don’t bother.

There is little “fun” to be had here without homies to play with. Most people who play Classic do not consider what is “fun”, but merely beep boop maximum efficiency engaged

It’s not too late to start playing classic, I’d just pick one of the medium or large servers to roll on absolutely. Ok, if you don’t want to be on an ultra tryhard server where things are unlocked but what’s worse? That or winding up on a server that’s inactive, has few guilds to choose from, and has no one doing group content outside of maybe a couple hours during peak time. I’d be more worried about that rolling on a “tryhard” server. Even the most tryhard servers are going to have more casual minded guilds if that’s your thing.

Also know this, pretty much all of the PVE servers are skewed heavily in one direction and typically that’s in favor of Alliance. I think Mankrik is the only one where it’s skewed in favor of horde. If you don’t care about that and just want to play on the more populated faction, then it depends on what faction you want to play.

Alliance? Pagle, Atiesh, Westfall are three, listed in order from largest pop to smallest, but even Westfall has close to 5000 players on it according to census data over the past few weeks and it seems steady. If you’d rather play Horde, Mankrik is heavily horde favored with nearly 7000 active players. The ratio is like 70% Horde, 30% Alliance.

Considering it’s a PVE realm and bgs are cross-server anyway, faction balance really shouldn’t be a concern aside from wanting to be on the faction that’s most active with the largest number of players imo.

I’m late but listen, this is how you play the classic game.

Step 1: SECURE THE KEYS!!!

Step 2: Role a healer or tank

Step 3: Be funny, be good at flavor text

Step 4: Send out LFM in LFG or World or general

Step 5: /beg and lick the boots of your fellow 60’s they’ll most likely spare you 10g or give you a FREE carry

Step 6: Take the first few methods combined them, add flavor text, slap open a discord and prepare for a good time! Send out invites to your fellow 13-23’s!

Have some free giggles and laughs on the house, while bonding in WC or VC for a good solid 3-6 hours

I just started another alt whose a prot druid, and so far we’ve ran WC 3 times with the same group of friends and as stupid members of the horde we hiked it to stranglethorne, got escorted by 2 random level 60’s all the way to good ol dead mines! Where we ran it twice! ;D

The discord for groups shouldn’t be 5head in 2020, but for some Classic returnees, this is spot on.
