Is classic still a thing?

Anyone still playing classic wow? need something to do in off time but don’t want to play something dead

Classic Era is highly active. Every raid is being run every night. AVs are active. World Buffs dropped regularly. And there’s no signs of it slowing down.

I just restarted on Era on Whitemane and have so far been blown away by how active it is. There’s people everywhere.

Feels awesome.

Yup, this is SW City right now.

It’s still a thing but barely…

I would honestly recommend investing your time in a different MMO.

Like yes, there’s people doing stuff but the busiest server has like… 10k players. There are ‘dead games’ that have more than that.

SOD/Era are 100% not worth putting time into. It’s been on a rapid decline for months and at this point is basically dead. If you wanted to have a place to play that isn’t dead id recommend checking out Cata or The War Within. They have almost 20x the pop of both era and SOD combined lol. Anyone saying otherwise is just trying to bait you into playing so they have a chance of potentially grouping with someone. Hope you have a great day Tavz :people_hugging:

Clearly we’re playing a different game. Era is 100% still worth investing your time into if it’s a version of WoW that you enjoy playing.

Yeah, it still seems active, even the hc servers are still active. Though with Sod releasing a new phase here in a few days than a lot of people are playing that, usually you will see people return to regular classic after they explore the new phase stuff.

I can always recommend era. Dead is very much a subjective thing outside of literally shut down. There are some MMO’s with 300 daily players that don’t feel ‘dead’ due to the way the world is set up.

Era to me will need a much much much smaller population before it ‘feels’ dead. The world is set up in a way that 3k people fills it nicely, partly due to hardware limitations of the time period. Plus your char will always progress when you play, no progress resets.

That being said, if you are someone who enjoys a more mega-server play style, able to pug a raid at literally any hour, it will feel slow. Cata/Retail do suit that better. No judgement in that, just gauging what you want out of your playtime and where to play.

SoD I won’t say good things about. Era has ebbs and flows. Whitemane and Mankrik have the population where it feels alive IMO. It depends what the OP wants out of the game.

TWW is like 99% a single player game. Even the dungeons now you can just do with NPCs and the other players might as well be NPCs. There is less of a community than some full on single player games have. Outside of like the AH the other players don’t matter at all unless you are doing the 1% of group content where people talk. Point being that the popularity contest for TWW does not matter because other players in that game do not matter.

As for Cata there is a lot of raid logging and not a lot else going on. If people like it thats ok but it’s no poster child.

Anyway I know you’re a troll on a newish toon that shouldn’t be on this forum and I’ll flag your posts as such. You need a vacation, got to get away.

Don’t listen to these fools. If you’re interested in Era you should play it. You don’t need 4,000,000 active subs for Era to be everything it can be, or for any MMO for that matter. Calling Era dead because it has five figures of active players is absolute nonsense.

It’s worth it for you.

I’ve played ERA the last 1.5 years and sure I enjoyed it. Would I recommend a friend gets into it in it’s current state? 100% no.

If you’re going to invest time into something new, invest into something that’s flourishing, not something that’s hanging on by a thread.

If this was true then you should know that Era is thriving. It was dead on arrival when TBC Classic first released but then saw a massive resurgence around the time WotLK Classic came out. The SoD release pulled some players away from Era but not that many and players have been trickling back in since then.

Invest? You want me to invest in retail where the gear I grind is made obsolete after 3 months? Yeah, no thanks.

Era is definitely not just hanging on by a thread. That’s complete tauren :poop:. The population is healthy, stable and as we’ve seen from the SoD release there’s not really anything that will suddenly change that.

Another way to think about it… invest your time into something that isn’t going to end, and has had a sustainable population for the last 5+ years, and to a looser extent the last 20 years (counting 2004 vanilla, vanilla pservers, 2019 classic vanilla, and 2021 to current Era vanilla).

Vanilla wow is the constant. And thanks to Era your investment of time and characters and gear aren’t going anywhere!

Welcome to your forever home. Its even where my SoM toon ended up at

I don’t care if you go play retail. Play the game you want. I personally just love vanilla wow… not trying to bait people to paying era lol.

The hype chasers will call it dead and leave. Good riddance.

Do you need a hug?

Lots of people are having a great time on Era, if you don’t enjoy it, that’s okay. Retail is probably designed just for you.

I know that guy is a troll but it truly is baffling. If you have Autism you should go play retail? That will be somehow better?

Gaming is gaming is gaming, the same pitfalls and benefits apply to everyone regardless of neurodevelopment. Make sure you socialise outside the game, don’t spend all your time on the internet, maintain healthy eating and exercise habits.

Just because you’re spending an unhealthy amount of time in subreddits doesn’t make nostalgic games a bad thing for autistic people. Instead of logging off era, try spending some time off the internet.

I was about to login to Cata Classic, but I noticed the Classic was still live. So, I logged on and started lvling one of my characters. I was surprised by how active the server Westfall is. I see a good number of Horde too.

It is very much alive - there are even more people on the pvp cluster.

But regardless of which cluster (pvp or pve), Era will likely feel way more alive than any other game mode because we have a decent population and only 1 layer per cluster.

Ironforge pro hasn’t updated data for Era population since July 15, but it has been growing like mad since then. We can look at changes of cata / sod population since july 15 to get a guess of how many people maybe moved to Era:

SoD: Gain 40,000 logs since july 15 sitting at 80k
Cata: Lost 190,000 logs (315,000 on july 15 to 125,000 logs today)

The reality is I enjoy the game and so do many others. I don’t need you to tell me why I enjoy it nor do I have to explain to you why it’s fun. Really strange that you feel the need to come in here and bash Era when the OP just asked if it was active. You must feel threatened in some way. Very fragile ego you must have.
