I was curious on the community’s thoughts on a Vanilla style classic plus realm.
The following was planned content when WoW was timelined as a game to be updated through patches. The last planned patch with development time and content created was Naxxramas, with everything else scrapped or left to be reused for the new structure of WoW: Expansions.
This is just a small fraction of a timeline/book I have organized of what a real full Vanilla experience would look like. In reality, Blizzard back even before TBC said items after T1 were a bit overtuned and would probably have tuned t3 three to six ilvls down and added a tier 3.5 at Naxx level stats which always indicated to me they had to of had at least some more content left for us to tackle.
Some content we never got to see:
[Zone] Azshara for levels 50-60
[Dungeon] Barrow Den (Timbermaw Hold) for levels 45-52
[Raid40] Barrow Deeps (Timbermaw Hold)
[Quest] Finished King Varian Quest with World Quest Events in Theremore
[Zone] Outland for levels 48 - 58
[Raid40] Official Black Temple in HFC (T3)
[Dungeon] Caverns of Time for levels 53 - 58
[Dungeon] Karazhan Crypt for level 60
[Raid20] Karazhan (T2.5)
[Raid20] Scarlet Citadel
[Epic Quest/Dungeon] Jadefire for level 60
[Raid40] Emerald Dream
[Zone] Hyjal consisting of World Bosses for level 60s, and lower level mobs at 55+
[Zone] Dragon Isles (most likely for npc’s and epic quest givers)
[Zone] Uldum for level 60
[Raid40] Grim Batol (area was started but never finished or implemented to continue quest series of black dragonflight and onyxia/pastor family line)
[Zone] South Sea Islands for levels 40 - 50
[Raid20] Stormwind Vault (would need a lore friendly reason for horde to come here or to create horde equivalent travelling deep into Org)
[World Event] Emerald Dream Portals to unlock ED Raid
[World Event] Dark Portal - Consisted of numerous warlocks and unlocking secrets in Karazhan then having the rest of the realm protect the warlocks while we attempt to rescue our friends trapped in Outland (unlocks Outland)
[Epic Quest Line] Ashbringer
[Finish Class Specs] Pally, Druid, and some other classes would at the very least see spells added to their niche specs (ex: Prot Pally Taunt)
These are just a few of my favorite ideas that were planned to be added at some point in WoW’s patch life cycle, until the idea of of expansions was pitched and they decided to start cramming new content into yearly cycles with patch updates to release said content.
What are your thoughts? Would this be a major fail? Would Blizz put dev time into this? Would you rather see ideas similar to this added in as SoM instead?
Edit: I can make a part 2 if people are interested.
No need. Classic WoW is currently paused at phase 6 in Classic Era. Perhaps once the infatuation with retail’s old expansions dies down a Phase 7 can be implemented.
To my understanding they were debating bringing the 20% decay to 10% decay. There was also an unplanned Rank 15 that they were still trying to figure out but couldn’t because the title system only allowed for one title at a time, meaning with the Classic Client this could all be accomplished and implemented.
Blood Elves were also a planned race, so the odds of you trying a full Vanilla+ sounds good!
I hate original classic, has everything I dislike, nothing I like. Is what it is.
But I’ve always been open to a classic+.
If I get my streamer egirl elf rogue and have basic quality of life like not applying poisons mid fight due to charges running out, I’ll give it a legit try.
I hope that blizzard will create a TBC Classic+ server eventually
It annoys me that when/if they do, we have to start from scratch and have lost MONTHS of grind/character development just because they are forcing everyone to WotLK.
I hope Blizzard wont push it on ppl whose fav expac is WotLK later. Because if they do, those that love TBC were already sacrificed and no one said anything…
That off my chest, TBC+ (with more QoL like multi-scanning, AoE looting, Transmog, etc) would be much welcome later. I just dont want to lose my progress again if they ever do open them
I can certainly sympathize and it’s one of the reasons I’m thankful Classic never had a “Dagger Skill” racial ability. My rogue would likely suffer an identity crisis. Some people are hellbent on minmaxing the fun out any game they play. That alone needn’t be what guides creative decisions.
I’d love to see a lot of the stuff you mentioned personally. It would get me totally back into the game. Well, Classic already did but it’s hard for me to do the same stuff forever to where I could just play Era, and Retail has really lost the “fun” for me. TBCC and Wrath C so far for me are kind of in the middle.
Depends on each person’s definition of Classic+ would be.
I mean people these days don’t want to raid anymore than 6 hours a week lol. God forbid there isn’t a how to guide or videos telling them what to do and when.
